They need to steal the animator for Farcry 2, those animations are juicy.

I'm trying to use this nega-review to keep me from buying the game at the 7-11 half a block away. I am hoping to set this one aside and pick it up in the slow months, but it's only half a block from work and it's calling to me.

The thing is.. halfway through Oblivion is about three times as long as Fable 2's entirety.

What does Fallout 3 have to do with Fable 2? o_O Speaking of which I got bored half way through Fable as well. I used to love RPGs.....am I growing out of them or are they just not trying hard enough to keep my attention??

Western RPG's are trying too hard is the problem, trying too hard to be something they are not.

It may not have much to do with anything, but it took me around 30 hours to finish Fable 2, and I could easily play through again as there are many quests only available to evil characters and parts of the world totally change depending on options you take.

Fable 2 is only short if you skip through everything. Both Fallout and Oblivion have those exact problems, if all you care about is the main quest, they can easily be finished within 5-6 hours. But then you've just missed the whole point in the game (for both Oblivion/Fallout AND Fable)

I dunno what the problem is but I *DO* know it's your own fault. Maybe you just need more guns and explosions. Fable 2 brought guns to the Fable series, and Fallout 3 brought a friggin' mushroom cloud to Oblivion.

I always hate that in reviews they mention how long it takes to get through the main story.... in these games the main quest isnt even the best part of the game. I never officially "beat" oblivion, yet I would highly recommend it.

I agree with some of this. Especially the pointless manual aiming, the crappy 3rd person skating mode with the off-center reticle, etc.

However the worst thing (for me) is the PS3 version pausing each and every time there's an XMB notification like a friend coming online or receiving a message. When I play in "prime time" I have a ton of friends going on and off constantly. No other game in the history of the PS3 has frozen for these notifications. It's like Bethesda TRIED to make it suck.

If your having trouble installing the game its due to the securom BS.

http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/lofiversion/index.php?t892624.html

In theory, securom is no biggie for my machine since I don't have any bruning stuff on it... use the other machine for that... but this BS DRM is annoying.. out of the box the game won't even fracking install on a clean system.

I'm not a fan on the nega review. While each of these sentences may have come from a review, it's usually the sentence after or before that clarifies. For instance, if someone said something like "The story is not as good as it could be" but in the next sentence says something like "but the story is a lot better than most stories out there", you missed that comparison. Reviews are meant to be taken as a whole (or at the very least, in paragraph chunks), using it sentence by sentence is not a good idea and the results are inconsequential at best.

Indeed that is the point. Look, everyone knows the positives about these games, by osmosis if nothing else. But the negatives tend to get drowned out. the nega-review isolates them and amplifies them in an entertaining and easy-to-read way.

The game is running almost flawlessly for me (360 version). There was one awesome bug I encountered where I was fighting a super mutant, and he kinda got glitched into a rock and started spazzing out, then somehow got launched like a hundred feet in the air and died when it hit the ground.

We need more awesome bugs in games.

I wonder if they were testing it, that happened, the tester said "awesome" and they just decided to leave it.

Yes, this is a rental for me. Not because of this nega-review, but because (guards against throne stones) I didn't care for Oblivion. The whole exploration felt like a chore to me. I think the "huge scrolling world" that is Far-Cry 2 is also a rental.

This Nega-review confirms a lot of my dislikes of Oblivion exist in this game. I never played the first two so Fallouts, so meh.

I liked Mass Effect for the way it told the story, the characters, animations, interactions made it feel like you were playing a really good sci-fi movie.

Fable II is beautiful and I enjoy exploring in that game. Combat is a little simple, but as you advance your character it begins to get pretty deep. And casting spells is much fun with great reactions around you. Your dog is awesome and the way the world reacts to what you do is nothing short of miraculous. Going into Bowerstone these days gathers me a horde of children while I try to find that damn gargoyle that is taunting me! The game is so addicting.

As a game, it's great, fantastic even, with the pros heavily outweighing the cons. Nevertheless, this game is not Fallout. Not merely in the gameplay, but in every aspect of its story and presentation.

I still love it, but calling it Fallout requires a large stretch of imagination.

If you haven't played either games in the original series, you are missing out, so I recommend you pick them up.

Isometric-based games are not "unplayable today." That line is utter bollocks. Just because point-and-click adventure games are not as prevalent as before (Telltale Games notwithstanding) does not make the Monkey Island series unplayable. Wolfenstein 3D may not have strafing but it is still incredibly enjoyable, no?

Saying games were great when they came out, but are now dated is bollocks. Citizen Kane doesn't suddenlysuck because we have colour and 7.1 surround sound in films now.

Fallout 1 & 2 are paradigms, much like Grim Fandango, Prince of Persia 1 & 2, Doom, etc.

Tangents aside, because I am beginning to go way off topic, I love the game, but hate the title.

I am not a "purist." The gameplay, story, setting, pretty much everything is changed. The connections are gone.

If you made Monkey Island three dimensional, changed the mechanics completely, erased all the unique qualities of its humour, created nonsensical threads linking it with its predecessors, and ultimately disassociating it with its namesake, wouldn't you be perplexed?

...get it? I sure hope so.

Fallout 3 is fun.

The dialogue and voice-acting are awful.

The story is weak.

It's like a software version of Hannibal Lechter from the Oblivion universe made a skin suit out of the Fallout games.

Still, a darn good game.

It does not truly honor Fallout.

Worth the money, worth the time, just not worth the sentiment.
