New Sci-Fi gaming show takes the physical challenge
The Sci-Fi Channel has partnered with Samsung and Granada America to hunt down the most well-rounded gamer in the United States as part of WCG GameQuest, a new "elimination-style" game show. Besides bragging rights (and sore thumbs), the winner of the "competition series" will also walk away with $100,000 and trips to attend future World Cyber Games events.
However, to survive the eight-episode tournament, contestants will not only have to stand up to the rigors of gameplay, but also real-life "physical challenges." We hope to see the gaming elite vie for superiority by plunging head first Double Dare-style into pools of slime when WCG GameQuest hits the airwaves in the first quarter of 2009.

Remember that show where the contestants were kids and they competed for a top score in a certain amount of time on arcade games? I seem to remember some kind of game board they advanced on as well...
I seem to recollect physical challenges on that show as well. Wish I could remember the name.

It was Nick Arcade, and they didn't do anything physical until the last game. It was a green screen where the contestants had to watch a small screen and jump around and at home it looked like they were in the game. It was stupid and no one ever won.

Anyone not taking the physical challenge is a gigantic lamer.

I just can't help thinking about Nick Arcade.
juju187 @ Oct 29th 2008 6:05PM

The real gamers that like competition were phased out at the very beginning of their "try-outs". It won't have very good gameplay to show, but it might be amusing to watch some of the physical challenges.

Awesome screenshot - Mark Summers on the right hand side looks like he's half the size of a normal person. AND he's dressed like a Bond villain.

If I were still 10 years old the idea of a Nick Arcade and Double Dare mashup would blow my freaking mind.

Ah, sweet slime of my childhood.

Does anyone remember the game show "Video Power"? The host of the show was Johnny Arcade. I just remember the last round of the game show where the kid would put on the velcro suit and stick as many video games as possible on it. I really wanted to do that when I was a kid. Ahh the 90's...
I wonder what happened to good old Johnny Arcade???

I actually auditioned for this Gamequest show. Made the final callback and was told my tape is on file. Overall was a fun experience. We got to play Forza 2, Gears, Guitar Hero 3, and FIFA.

Any Brits remember 'Get Your Own Back'?
Came up in conversation today.. all I remember is Dave Benson Phillips being hyper through every episode.

Wow, Sci-Fi is really gunning for gamers lately, I just saw a commercial for a reality show called (I think) Chase, which was promoted as being "like a real life video game" and pretty much looked like Mirror's Edge the reality show. Even had a similar white/red color scheme.

another move by SciFi to turn the channel into a complete waste of time that will show any crap that looks like it might have been on MTV. What next, wrestling?
Eh, wait a second ...

I recently saw Marc Summers on the show he hosts on the Food Network. I find the dude kind of creepy and disturbing now, but thought he was awesome when I was a kid.
