i have to go with the "i" as in "me myself and.." it seems that the Wii is meant to be the multiple person system these days.

I think it's DS Eye, meaning the camera, just because the "i" is in a little black circle, that looks just like the camera lens.

doesn't the "i" stand for Internet? Figured that was obvious as this one includes a browser and the ability to download games directly.

Just another attempt to copy Apple in my view. That lower case i annoys the crap out of me. It represents the casual direction Nintendo is going in and it bothers me. Ugh, I hate saying negative things about Nintendo but these kinds of practices are hard to ignore.

Actually, the "i" symbol is the global Information symbol used in businesses, themeparks, and websites all across the globe.

DSi = DSinfo

DSiPhone.

N hinted that their new thing should scare cell phone vendors before properly announcing the DSi. (Two crappy cameras isn't much to worry about IMO.)

When did nintendo say that? they have repeatedly stated that they have no desire to be a red ocean company. if what you say is true, it is a contradiction.

Nintendo DSi took out the GBA components so we'd have a legitimate excuse to never officially localize Mother 3 in North America, Europe, or Australia.

Just a blatant use of the "i" Apple has made so famous. No other reason. If there hadn't been an "iPod" there wouldn't be a "DSi".

Its actually rather funny that Nintendo did name it that, as a lot of people referred to the DS lite as the iDS.

I agree with the Wii theory. The i's in Wii are supposed to represent two people, being that the Wii is a multiplayer console and all.

The DSi, on the otherhand, is a one player gamign system, and only has one person standing there to represent it.

I've been saying I think it's a play on words, much how "Lite" is used to represent both lighter in weight and size as well as the more illuminated screens. I believe the "i" represents both "eye" for the cameras and "I" as in me, myself, and I. However, there is more emphasis on the latter. They want everyone to have their own personal DS and to be able to download their own games and apps to it. It also ties into how the "i's" in Wii are meant to represent multiple people. The DSi is meant to be for a single person. And if they ever do make a true DS successor (not a 1.5 version like the DSi is), they could even simply call it the DSii where the "ii" represents 2 as Roman Numerals. Although I kind of doubt they would actually do that.
