I personally don't care. Never listened to director's anything, and never saw the point of leaderboards. I'd rather have the genuineness of the original games.

I don't care about leaderboards - I play for fun, not bragging rights.

What I care about is playing with a good controller. Classic games are more demanding of quick reflexes and rapid twitch movements than most modern "run around in a 3D world enjoying the graphics" games, so a good controller is vital. The 360 controller's D-pad sucks. The Wii's "classic controller" is too light weight and plasticy for my tastes. Of the 1st party controllers, I'm afraid I prefer the PS2 and PS3 controllers for classic games.

It's been a talking point of detractors of the Virtual Console for a long time. Some games benefit from it, some games don't, and the original should always be included

I mean, some Ice Climber leaderboards would be nice, but playing the original version is indisputable. Wrecking Crew could benefit from a downloading user-made stages greatly

Ultimately the current model is fine. More would be nice, but the clamoring for XBLA-style total upgrades is unnecessary.

Normally I fall under the 'don't mess with the classics' camp, but ssb64 on vc with online would be epic win. especially if wiispeak was compatible.

Yeah, I play Rez HD from time to time, and the ability to download videos of the off the leaderboard is really cool.

Like, remember when you were in the arcade - if you do - playing 1942, and after crashing and dying you'd enter your name, then see an amazing high score. How the hell did they do that? Well now you can see, in Rez anyway.

I'm not a real score whore though, so I don't check out the leaderboards that much. But the videos do feed a long held curiosity of mine.

I'd rather it be kept pristine, for the most part. No upgraded graphics, no leader boards, no whatever.
...although I make an exception for online play. That should really be mandatory.

Seriously Chris, how have you gone this long without an Xbox. Honestly its the best system I own for the simple reason that it connects me to other gamers with leaderboards, multiplayer aspects, and live chat. I usually only rent a game if it has no online multiplayer capability, cuz really whats the point after the credits rolls if there is no way to show you are better than someone else in a minigame or deathmatch.

Don't care about leaderboards or updated graphics...
But having online mulitplayer options and voice chat would be awesome.

The leaderboards are fun in Star Soldier R. They make me strive to be better and better at the game. I would like to see more games with them for sure, but the game should remain as it was just with some additions.

Ikaruga is awesome BTW.

When given the choice on what console should I buy a game, such as Megaman 9, I would have picked the Xbox 360 (Though I do not have one).

Nintendo's DRM is absolutely sucky. Xbox's, on the other hand recently shifted towards our favor. I don't know how PS3's DRM works.

Then there's also stupid things like achievements, DLC and online multiplayer, which are implemented in all but the Wii games...

Actually, (at least in the case of MM9) the Wii version has everything the other versions do (Achievements, DLC, Online Leaderboards), and has better graphics (360 and PS3 make MM9 look blurry and ruin the 8-bit graphics).

Oh, and about the actual topic, I think that online leaderboards would be nice for games that are actually score based (Could you imagine an SMB leaderboard?!), and online multiplayer has been a feature in so many emulators nowadays that there's no reason not to have it. Leaderboards would be great. One thing I love about Geometry Wars 2 is your friends leaderboard is updated constantly... giving me an incentive to jump back in and try to retake the top spot.

Online multiplayer should be in VC games, but as I recall online play for some 360 games (Contra, Castle Crashers, and Streets of Rage 2 come to mind) doesn't work very well. If Ninty does it, they should do it well.

You don't need to modify the original game to have leaderboards and achievements, it can all be done transparently to the player, like XBox 360 does it.

Megaman 9 only does it this way because there is no achievements system in place on the Wii.

That said, more so than any fluff features I think the feature they MUST ADD is trials.

I have NEVER wished I didn't buy an XBox Live Arcade game that I bought because I always download the trials first. However, I regret over 90% of the VC purchases I've made due to the games not having trial versions. Most of these purchases happened early on.

A lot of people give MS a lot of crap because of Windows but honestly with the XBox 360 they hit the nail on the head with EVERYTHING in my opinion.

Nintendo acts like it's wading through waist-deep water in completely uncharted lands.

Don't get me wrong, I am totally a Nintendo fan boy. I just don't like spending money blindfolded, and I know enough to know when to slap MS and when to praise them, and not just blindly hate them (although I used to in my teenage years)

Leaderboards are for people with tiny penises.

Though I wouldn't be opposed to some extra stuff thrown into Virtual Console games, as long as it doesn't mess with the original in any negative way.

I could care less about leader boards, but I wouldn't mind upgraded graphics and sound (or other bonuses) as long as the classic game play remains intact and the price isn't affected too much.

Not really an issue of penis size here. Leaderboards can be interesting, but it's not like they get in the way of people that don't want them. I bought Gradius III for the VC, love it to death, and wish there was at least that for it. I play games for fun too, not to be the best, but it's fun to compete.
