As we warned you, Criterion has released the details on the first of four planned 2009 DLC updates to its open-world driving juggernaut: Burnout Paradise "Party," coming in February 2009. The premium content (that means "not for free") will add a pass-the-pad party mode for those who've got a room full of up to eight gearheads, each taking their shot at tests of stunt abilities, speed and general skill. There's also a whole new party aesthetic if you don't want to spring for streamers.
Released alongside the "Party" pack will be an "Ultimate Box" edition of the game which will include all previously released DLC, including "Party," for an undisclosed price. So if that's the next big thing for Burnout, what's the next-next big thing? You'll have to wait until Nov. 7 to find out.

What Joystiq neglected to mention is that the game's visuals have also been tweaked. So that I think is worth a price.

Yeah. The only way to play multiplayer now is for two people to play on 2 different systems, LAN play isn't even possible. All EA has to do is shut down their servers and no more multiplayer.
This move doesn't surprise me by EA. For a multiplayer game to have limited multiplayer capabilites unless they are paid for (this coming from someone who owns 5 Burnout games).

I would drop 5-10 bucks for 2 player split screen as well. Too many games are doing away with that. Sure, XBL makes it easy to game with friends, but for those of us who are married and are lucky enough to have a spouse that games, we cannot all afford 2 systems, 2 TVs, and 2 of each game. That was my beef with CoD4: no multiplayer online (as in 2 people on same couch type multiplayer).

Yeah, once my wife was ready to move on from Halo and the lego games, we went ahead and sprang for the cash for a second system and moved the bedroom TV out closer to the living room one so we could play together on seperate consoles.
Those 360's are just so dang cheap right now. You can get a used core for like 90 bucks still under RROD warranty, and if it RROD's it's not the end of the world because it's just your second box.
It's getting two copies of the games that starts to add up.

Thank you.
This game should've had 2p slit Screen from the beginning. My wife & I have been finding it harder and harder to find 2p games we can enjoy together: I recommend Warhawk, PJ Monsters, and Little big Planet.
I like the online multiplayer for these games but I don't want to sacrifice the good old fashioned 2p 1couch gaming, and I shouldn't have to.
That said, having stated after the other updates (except the custom soundtrack addition) "I'm glad that was free" I don't think I want to pay for this next one. They really just need to make a new game: one with crash junctions and more road rages, or at least linear races.

I agree with Gonzo. But some games are fun to hand the controller back and forth too. Like WipEout HD for example. It's much more fun to pass the controller while trying to unlock everything and gold medal all the races, rather than do the multiplayer races.
Also, when is the Plane update coming? I was only mildly excited about Bikes... what I really want is Planes!

This game just gets better and better. I would like to give kudos to criterion and EA for making a game that is so expandable. This is one game that I feel like I got more than my moneys worth. I still have yet to finish it because it is so easy to pick up and play with friends and have a blast.

What happened to releasing everything for free?

Heck, two of the packs so far announced (bikes and island) were originally going to cost money but are now free. So I don't think they're asking too much.

Could there be such a thing as too much DLC for a game? I loved playing Burnout Paradise...back in spring 2008. It was fun, but after a while it gets pretty monotonous. The bikes were fun for a day or two, and I'll have fun with the new island for a little bit, certainly. But shouldn't these people be moving on to develop the next Burnout game already? Or were the 6% of EA's workforce cuts in the main Burnout team, leaving only the DLC team to drag it out endlessly?

I loved Burnout Paradise, and love their updates so far, but I really hope their November 7th announcement is a new entry in the series. I'd love to be able to actually see my objectives (especially ramps and shortcuts!) from a distance instead of them barely catching my eye when I drive up next to them.
Also make a Wii version. Excite Truck was kinda fun, but it only served to prove that we needed a Burnout 3 / Burnout Revenge game on Wii.

Yay, my first double post! And it happens when Joystiq is mostly working perfectly.

A Wii version? Sheesh, why not just play RC Pro Am?

At this rate, they'll have a split screen mode back in the game soon enough.
I'll buy this, even if I only play it a few times.
Critereon has damn well earned it.
They are giving the customers what they want, and doing it well. Other developers need to learn from them.
Help make other devs realize that games are more than just about a 1 shot product that you put out to sell, and leave it at that, they are committed to their fans.
Buy the game (retail or from PSN) and get this new pack when it comes out!
