We're sure the 360 owners among you are getting antsy in the wake of the launch of the New Xbox Experience, so we thought we'd issue a friendly public service announcement. Yes, the NXE has leaked onto various torrent sites around the internet. But before you drop the Avatar-iffic update onto your console, know this -- gaining early, illicit access to the NXE will kick you off of Xbox Live until the update's official release date, November 19. For those awaiting the launch of Gears of War 2, this would be a tragedy of epic proportions.
Oh, and there's also the ever-present danger of receiving a permaban from Microsoft as punishment for your shameless buccaneering. No such bans have been reported yet, but when one is dealing with the possible exclusion from chainsaw-infused multiplayer shenanigans, we feel one would be better served by being safe, rather than sorry.

Okay, some one is gunna have to explain the excitement for the NXE. I have a 360 and have never felt anything but apathy towards the new interface. Seriously, is there something I'm missing?

I'm excited, because it's proof that XBOX is not just laughing its way to the bank with our $50 yearly subscriptions.
They're constantly trying to improve the experience, and while I think the avatars are stupid, I know I'll be the one constantly updating mine.

Install games onto the HDD is the big feature for me, even with just a 20GB HDD, I had enough room to install Fable II, 5 demos and almost three years of game save.

Maybe the money that paid for this upgrade was the ad revenues they get from even us Gold members. Or maybe it was from license fees from actually selling games (kinda the point of a gaming platform).

Why waste your time stealing the NXE if you can't get on live and therefore use a large portion of the new features.
With Gears 2 a mere 6 days away there is no way in hell I would consider losing my live access for a couple weeks to use a half baked NXE.

I can tell you the reason why I updated my 360.
I couldn't care less about Multiplayer Gaming as it sucks with XBL's "Hey let's throw a bunch of random people together and make them shoot each other" approach.
And thanks to installs, I don't have to wake up my entire street every time I play FC2.My disc drive can finally fuck off and die, not bothering anyone.

That's not true. I care about his street and the sleep it's residents can now have.

so i take this to mean you don't have many friends who have xbl? because any time i get on my xbox to play, i can always just going a game that is just friends, at least in most games. i suppose there are a few games that dont support friend/party type invites but in most of the mp games i play its easy.

I applied for the "early preview" and my console updated yesterday. It looks impressive and seems more responsive than the old dashboard. I like the avatar feature too and once all my friends (or any of them) get NXE it'll make the friends list look much more personal.

It's been on the torrent site for weeks. I don't have a modded 360 so it doesn't bother me at all. Besides, it's not like I don't already have 10 games to play every minute of everyday.

I don't get it.
If the Nixie... er, NXE, rather, is feature completed. and, I'm assuming, all the back end work on Microsoft's side is complete, then why wait to release it? Why wait two and a half weeks? JUST RELEASE IT.

Testing etc.
Adding finishing touches?
Probably just Microsoft certification...and we all know how long that takes.

I'm guessing they are still checking it over one more time for bugs. Since, after all, the people who have the NXE now can be issued an update to fix a bug or two. Microsoft just want to make sure that there isn't any bugs at launch that will ruin it. There will always be minor bugs...almost impossible to make it perfect.

@Conor
Shouldn't it already be certified since it's Microsoft making it, and technically it's already been released. To a few people anyways.

Marketing.
That's easy.
Ever had experience with a marketing department within a company?
You don't just waste all your time hyping a specific date and then go "oh well y'know wut, let's just throw it out now, it's done right" somebody in the marketing department would go into tears, convulsions, and possibly throw themselves into oncoming traffic.

O how we forget about last years fall update. Besides my bad luck in having my xbox get bricked from it, that update caused massive amounts of performance issues due to the friend list update. Not to mention all the holiday games that completely crippled xbox live causing heavy outages.
I think they are trying their best to insure there will not be any devastating effects. Good for them for trying to be proactive.

Does that really apply when it's a mandatory update? It'd really only apply for when it comes preinstalled on the new Xbox 360s, but then they could just keep that release date the same and release it for existing consoles now.
I'm going with it being related to last-minute beta testing. You can never be too careful.

If you use it you can't really do anything except look at it and test out the new install feature. You can't make avatars on the leaked file.
