Fatman, Haze was not developed by Sony, nor did Sony fund it, it was up to free radical completly to either go multiplat or go exclusive, and after it flopped, they realised it made more sense to just leave it where it was.

New IPs can be a success, but it all depends on the originality of the game and amount of funding gone into it. Take Uncharted for example, or Resistance both excellent games, both funded by Sony. Last gen, Sony didn't have to worry much about first gen games being average, third parties were all for supporting the PS2.

You can tell Haze was lazily put together, so fail was inevitable, same with Lair, but spend as much time as Sony is on Killzone or on Resistance 2, and you expect a good or excellent game.

Take Killzone for example, last time around it flopped because it was a third party much like Haze, this time we expect something good because the company is under Sony, there is absolutly no reason for errors or mistakes considering Sony is pushing it as thier best title, they are marketing it to the max, they are proclaiming it this that and the other, and guerilla? Well they have spent more money on this then anything media related done before in thier country, they have Sony staff working on the project that know the PS3 software better then anyone. I 'EXPECT' an excellent game.

Exclusivity has never been a bad thing, DLC or an entire game, anything to draw people towards your console is a good thing, so securing GTA DLC is great, heck, even securing exclusivity for something not currently existing is a great move.

None of us know what the future holds for GTA DLC, for all we know it could be crappy DLC, but by the time people find that out, its too late, you've already picked your 360 as console of choice for the game, there is no reason to go buy the PS3 version instead, simple because, crap or not, 360 version has DLC, PS3 version does not.

However, thats not to say Sony's choice not to cough up the cash for GTA was bad, Sony hasn't got the same kind of money to splash as Microsoft, and I know Sony knows that, so Sony is doing the next best thing, operating on the games that will always be exclusive, its first party games.

Honestly, think about it, you are Sony, you already know that no matter how much you spend to get something, Microsoft will double that figure, so why waste cash? GTA or not? The intelligent thing to do is concentrate your funds in areas that will make a bigger difference, in this cash, its thier first party games. People who say its stupid to ignore GTA and DLC are not seeing the logic in it.

No matter what is said or done, Sony needs every bit off cash they can spare at the moment, every penny counts, Microsoft 'can afford' to spend the equivalent of an island price, they have that money, and they are making profit on consoles, PS3 hasn't even broke even, if they do what Micro does with thier money, they'll be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.

Basically Sony is doing what we would all do in that situation, instead of competing with people who have more cash then you, you make do with what you have and better that. Nobody can take what you have as an individual.

The only things that remain 100% exclusive are first parties, which is the reason why Sony has decided to focus on it.

Microsoft will find they are forced to do the same thing once these third parties start demanding the equivalent of a LOTR series of movies which is already close to happening.

Third parties are becoming expensive and they want every penny from every gamer, why do you think Micro hasn't just bought the license to the GTA4 games or FF games, you have to ask yourself that, why wasn't GTA4 exclusive to 360? Was it becasue Micro couldn't afford to buy them, was it because the companies just downright refused because they saw more revenue coming in from multiplat? Or is it because Micro felt they would be deemed as meanies if they made the two exclusives and wanted to be be seen as generous by allowing two of the most popular series to remain multiplat, I DOUBT IT :D

if MS spent $50 million for the exclusive DLC they would need to sell over 3 million @ $15 to break even or 2.5 million @ $20.

That's half of the people that bought the game.

And considering the game has been out for so long a lot of people may not consider buying DLC for it because they are working on other games (Fallout 3, GoW 2 etc...). I think R* and MS needs to be smart when they release it else it could get lost in the wave of great new games - or maybe it's too late...

Shut the fuck up and get lost. All you do here is throw out a shitty one-liner, which many times doesn't even fit with the article content, and spam us with your absolute shit blog.

"Because they can do both, good lord. I mean, cmon, are people buying this convoluted logic from this Sony talking head?"

well, yeah. Microsoft entered the games industry to foil Sony; Sony entered the games industry to make money. spending $50 million on a game like LBP will probably have a much higher profit-margin for Sony than spending $50 million on dlc for a game that's quickly declined in the public's eye of interest (if you haven't noticed, most multiplatform games tend to do just that). it's not necessarily a question of whether or not Sony CAN do both; just a matter of determining if it's worth it. Sony probably figured that it's much more financially viable to fund your own stuff, than to try to enter into a bidding war with Microsoft. makes a whole bunch of sense to me.

What does a UK Sony manager know about a American based Rockstar? Might sound stupid/ignorant, but chances are that a U.S. manager would known more and the fact they haven't said anything means something.

does anyone realize that microsoft makes in a month, income wise, what Sony makes in a year? they can spend whatever they want, because microsoft just prints money, they have a machine, its turned on all day, they make 1.3 billion dollars, cash money, a month. Thats a lot of money. that means, if microsoft really wanted to, in 6 months, it could take all its cash, and buy everyone in america a xbox 360. Sony cant do that.

What is there to comment on here? This guy is only making a guess, the same as many PS3 GTA fans have been since the exclusive content was announced. It may eventually come to the PS3, but frankly I don't think Microsoft paid $50 million for a "timed" exclusive.

And if this is really the case, then I shouldn't bother buying Mirror's Edge on the PS3, because it's coming to the 360 (which I prefer) anyway?
