NOTE: you can only pre-order Gears 2 at Circuit City OVER THE PHONE. yes, no online or in-store pre-orders allowed.

@Nubby:
How about you go to circuit city and try and pre-order? as of 10/26/08, you can no longer pre-order in the store. also, with the 1600 MS points deal, you cant do that online either. thank you. now go back to your cave troll.

@Dicknjane: No one ever said you can get the 1600MS Points online. Just because your store doesn't allow you to preorder right now doesn't mean others are the same. My friend and myself just got back from CC where he preordered Gears 2 by filling out the slip and putting it in the box. Thanks.

American Best Buys freaking suck. And that's the place I'm getting it at because I have reward zone points. Everyone have fun with your gift cards, MS points, and keychains. I get 25% off something that nobody even freaking wants.

I wish I had a Circuit City closer to me. They always have sweet deals.

Price match just matches prices...right?

Are you saying I can take a Circuit City ad into Best Buy and get MS points from Best Buy too?

@offday, I was wondering that too. I was wanting to take the CC ad into Toys R Us and get both the points and the gift card.

Back when Wal-Mart had that $100 gift card for any Blu-ray player bought (including the PS3), I called my local Best Buys and only 1 would match it. They said they'd have to call a nearby Wal-Mart to see if they had any in-stock and, if so, it wouldn't be a problem.

So they called, it worked out and I got a 40GB PS3 + $100 Best Buy GC for $399.99 + RZ points. Then I went and bought 7 BD movies.

The moral is: it might work for you, but if you don't have a CC near enough that you're willing to drive to, my bet is they'll refuse to honor it on the same grounds.

clearly the cc deal looks the best, but who knows what is going on with cc, there was an article about sony turning around a shipment of goods to them. tomorrow there sounds like there is bad news with some closing of some stores. hopefully they last till black friday. if you have any gift cards at cc, i'd use them quick-like.

This is one of the reasons why Circuit City is set to announce the closing of 155 of their store locations across the country. Circuit City is going the way of CompUSA, Sharper Image, and the others that simply should never have been in business to start. CompUSA did this "we are closing select stores" only to see them go online-only and that tanked as well.

Circuit City has been failing for many years, but it is their own fault, a result of extremely poor management, that never seem to have sat foot in one of their stores.

Regarding the Gears 2 launch, my prediction is this will be one of the last major game launches for them. I agree, the 1600 point card is a great deal if you need points, but for those thinking you will get the card for free, and then return it for store credit, you won't be able to. What Circuit City does is charge you for the point card on the receipt, but then take off the price of the point card from the game itself. So when rung up, the game will be $39.99, but then they will charge you $19.99 for the point card, which comes out to the same as if you purchased just the game.

It is actually a smart thing for a retailer to do, so if someone tries to return one item, they get back the cash for the one item only. In this case, IF this is how it will work, one could basically return the point card for their $19.99 if they don't need it, therefore, only paying $39.99 for the game, which is only $15 more than what employees at Microsoft pay for it. ;)

Regarding price match, yes, most major retailers will honor price matches, for local competitors only (meaning no Amazon or Costco), but they also usually will honor promotional giveaways too so Best Buy "should" honor the Circuit City deal.

No I am getting it. How they are doing is is charging me full price for the 1600 card and then 40 for GoW2.

1600 MS card: 19.99 + 1.67 = 21.66
GoW2: 40.00 + 3.35 = 43.35
Total: 65.01 with free shipping on both, no idea if they will arrive separate or not

Hey when I ordered Halo 3 from Best Buy, they gave a free 1600 MS Pts card and I was allowed to increase the amount of free cards from qty 1 to qty 3 (no more than that)...definitely worth a try with Circuit City. I got 4,800 points and Halo 3 for $59.99 plus tax. Freakin government.

So from a "glitch" you were able to get two extra 1600 point cards from your Halo 3 purchase and you are whining about $5 in sales tax? WTF?

Amazon deal hasn't expired. It expires after the launch of the game. Do a search on Amazon for Gears of War 2 Lancer, and in a box it says you'll get the game for free..

Just spoke with a call rep. Apparently the 1600 points only comes if you order online. It will then ship on Friday and you will get it as fast as the shipping option you choose can get it to you. Bummer...

I was thinking of getting the game at circuit city for the MS points and then returning the game later that day while keeping the MS points. The reason for that is that I already pre-ordered gears 2 LE at Gamestop.

I know at some point in time, I'm going to buy gears of war 2 new, but now with the 1600 live points, I'm wondering if I should get it now. If I don't get it now, I'll probably get it for my birthday dec. 15 or chirstmas. I already pre ordered banjo, so that will keep me occupied.

I just don't know if i should pass this offer up.

any thoughts?
