Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is still wearing a costume
To be perfectly honest, we don't see why Halloween can't be a week-long holiday with state-sponsored costume contests and talent shows. Then again, after two hours downtown we had a 7:8 Palin to Joker ratio, so maybe we have too much faith in the creativity of humanity (kudos to the "Most Overused Costume of 2009" Rorschach we saw).
We're asking a lot of you this time: Tell us the best and worst costumes you saw this weekend, check out these comics and vote for your favorite (polling after the break) and if you still have any logo ideas, send them in! We really appreciate what we've seen so far, and come next Saturday we'll be having a vote on the favorites.
Translation (Castle Vidcons)

You're Pushing My Buttons (2P Start)

hahaha...ha.......
meh
jcd @ Nov 2nd 2008 11:15PM
yep, no laugh this week :(
offday @ Nov 2nd 2008 11:06PM
I actually pretended to be Samus with a paper towel tube before. I passed on the balloons though.
It's sad that Halloween is over once again, but at least now I have good food to look forward to. And after that it's every gamer's favorite day. :)
MNC Dover @ Nov 2nd 2008 11:10PM
I liked Extra Life's stab at the economy personally. Once the boxes owe him 100 coins, does that mean there going to owe him a life as well? Hell, will Mario be getting interest?!
I was hoping our comic would make it this week. Bomberman does rule after all.

Oh well, there's always next week.
Xoviet chiK @ Nov 2nd 2008 11:34PM
That was pretty good. Better than anything up there this week. What gives?
You have my invisible vote.
t_m @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:26AM
only one to make me laugh...
Metal_Link @ Nov 2nd 2008 11:31PM
Oooo... It was actually kinda hard to pick one this week. :\
Xoviet chiK @ Nov 2nd 2008 11:39PM
Had to go with Extra Life, everything else was pretty boring, but EL elicited a chuckle from me. MNC should have been there though.
Also, in my research to find out why VG Cats hasn't been featured (Not video game related recently, not recent either) I found a wicked indie animation studio. http://www.fortaxreasons.com/ Good stuff, don't know why I hadn't heard of them sooner...
Antonio @ Nov 2nd 2008 11:40PM
Pretty sorry collection of comics this week.
Trickob @ Nov 2nd 2008 11:48PM
Best costume was this kid that came trick-or-treating, probably about 12, dressed as Ash.
Not pokemon "Ash," Evil Dead "Ash."
Complete with toy shotgun slung over his shoulder and a plastic chainsaw over his hand. Bad. Ass.
You better believe that he got extra candy for that.
[playwhutyalike {C.E.P}] @ Nov 2nd 2008 11:56PM
I don't care for Castle Vidicons, as the background page seems to fuck with my eyes, but I love when the King gets pissed and his slot glows.
Pure awesome.
Chris Are @ Nov 3rd 2008 1:01AM
Honestly I always just skip over it because it hurts my eyes too. Are you color blind as well?1 Perhaps that's why! :-)
Courtney @ Nov 3rd 2008 1:55AM
I'm not color blind, but still think the color scheme/graphics are very hard to look at for more than a few seconds. I appreciate the attempt to do something a little different than most comics, but I could never read it on a regular basis.
Trickob @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:03AM
Castle Vidcons gave me a good guffaw. It's nice to see someone doing something different than Halloween, LBP, or the coming onslaught of video games.
C-Vid has been pretty consistently good from what I've seen from this feature. I'm thiiis close to adding them to my favorites...
Tiptup300 @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:04AM
CAD, always there to bring the funny!
idiot @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:31AM
eh, it feels like i've read that joke somewhere before
Nirolak @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:38AM
http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/10/8/
Kyattsuai @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:42AM
Which had you read before - the "making burning wangs in LBP" joke, or the "CAD is funny" joke?
Trickob @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:49AM
@ Kyattsuai
I was wondering the exact same thing!
Poisoned Al @ Nov 3rd 2008 7:38AM
B^Uckley isn't, and never will be funny. The only times he comes close to funny is when he rips someone else off.
Obie @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:54AM
PA this week, and can I vote against CAD? Why, why, who post that garbage?
eldee @ Nov 3rd 2008 1:35AM
CAD and 2PS need to be removed from the wrapup imo.. they haven't been funny in forever. At least when PA is lame they look good doing it.
eldee @ Nov 3rd 2008 1:34AM
Dead Space must be attracting pussy in huge quantities, because that game was NOT as scary as everybody says it is. It's a fantastic game, by far the best one I've played all year- but it wasn't that scary. The 'boo' moments were predictable and usually announced.. they definitely pulled some punches. Which I guess is a good thing, or the guys at Dipswitch would probably had a heart attack.
alienmastermind @ Nov 3rd 2008 7:58AM
Heh.
There's just one guy at Dipswitch. I liked the game. But the comic is more about the fright my character had playing the game. Denny is a little...uh...high strung. Thanks for all the mehs out there. Gotta work harder on them thar jokes, I suppose. :)
Poisoned Al @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:00AM
I know why Dead Space isn't scary. You're too invincible. Not only do you have powerful weapons with LOADS of ammo, you can slow the enemies down and pick them off at your leisure.
If that indestructible one popped up a few more times, it would have been a lot more tense. Scary is when there's something out to get you, and you can't do anything about it except run.
Not knocking the game tho, it's really fun, but I've seen scarier kittens.
No, really, I have. Cyclops kitten freaks me out.
jerseycrow @ Nov 3rd 2008 2:17AM
Love DeadSpace
Steve @ Nov 3rd 2008 2:32AM
No Gamemarks this week?
http://www.gamemarks.com
M @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:03AM
State sponsored, huh? I knew that the marxian liberal bias would spill out sometime, joystiq.
You just lost a reader.
EBH @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:41AM
I loved how Castle Vidcons this week captured the attitude Nintendo has about Mother 3.
Mr Khan @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:05AM
Not just Nintendo, the game's creator feels the same way
schwal @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:07AM
Boys of Floyd and CAD were both Penny Arcade ripoffs this week.

ZaxCG2 @ Nov 3rd 2008 7:39AM
Right- heaven forbid another comic use the same game as the basis for their jokes.
Poisoned Al @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:05AM
Oh suuuure. PA came up with the people acting like zombies gag first didn't they.
The flaming penis jokes are also too bloody obvious too. Copying? Maybe not. Shit and unfunny? Defiantly!
j.howlett @ Nov 3rd 2008 6:39AM
i picked criminal x because the original xbox buttons are brutal. that controller gave me the worse case of sore thumb since snes and it didn't take that long of a play session. i once wore out the x button on a dualshock playing tony hawk on the ps1 but i fixed it.
Mr Khan @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:06AM
How aren't more people voting for 2P Start?
schwal @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:25AM
because sonic jokes have been incredibly easy for the last ten years, and have lost their luster.
Zertoss @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:54AM
Oh come on. "You're a Pokemon, aren't you? You followed me here from Brawl." The thought of annoying sidekicks following Sonic from his adventures into crossover games is hilarious.
Maybe his next buddy will be a talking mushroom.
schwal @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:08AM
did you not follow the links? the PA version of Boys of Floyd was based on Dead Rising, not left 4 dead.
And while even jokes about penises in LBP are odvius enough, both specifically had them on fire.
russianbuddha @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:16AM
Cool. I was actually dressed as Rorschach this year. And I ran into another Rorschach while waiting in line to get into a club. We drunkenly hugged and then gave high-5's to the passers by who were fans of the display.
alienmastermind @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:24AM
My costume this year was by far the best I saw at work. I grew out a goatee and came as the 'Alternate Universe' version of myself.
Gavin @ Nov 3rd 2008 1:09PM
Extra life and (surprisingly) Digital Unrest were both pretty cute this week :-)
El Verde @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:34PM
Went as Mario. Unoriginal, but recognized by the general populace. Even did pretty well playing "Meet an attractive girl or gaiden" (but ultimately, ran out of continues).
Thanks again for the love Ross! Extra Life ftw!
Phil @ Nov 4th 2008 10:47AM
Operation Myriad FTW.
Seriously, there cannot be a single gamer here who isn't nodding in agreement. November is going to be fucking INSANE no matter what games you play.
For me, an RPG/Simulator fanatic, it's Wrath, ToS: Dawn of the New World, Eternal Poison and Animal Crossing: City Folk ALL WITHIN ONE WEEK.
Then shortly AFTER, I have Rune Factory 2 coming out, with Sonic Unleashed following soon after, THEN Chrono Trigger (Mind you, I'm renting most of these games from gamefly sans Wrath and AC which I WILL buy) ) and december will be focused on completing said games.
And for anyone who knows how long those games can take, it can be hellacious. Not to mention, the various PC releases I've forgotten about. I still need to get Rain Slick episode 2 before wrath hits.
Phil @ Nov 4th 2008 10:47AM
...Granted it's Sonic Unleashed on the Wii and honestly may end up sucking, but it's still proper planning of my GameQ I must set up.
alienmastermind @ Nov 5th 2008 11:31AM
Wow. Thanks for all the votes for those who voted. Better luck next time, I guess. And, to anyone who thought 'meh' at the comic, come over to http://www.playitreviewit.com and drop me a PM with specific criticism.
Even if it's to just shout 'DOUCHEBAG'. :)
TommyBoy @ Nov 7th 2008 12:53PM
Those guys over at the Legendary Boys of Floyd are giving away a free print of their comic. Go check it out.
