New games this week: Gears of Resistance 2 edition
Last week, our hearts were being pulled in two completely different directions and we just couldn't pick a game to feature. This week ... well, we're just not going to get in the middle of it. If you own a 360, you think Gears of War 2 is the most exciting. If you own a PS3, you think it's Resistance 2. If you own both ... well then, you think it's going to be tough paying rent this month.
There's also Quantum of Solace, Legendary, EndWar ... the list goes on. Which will you be picking up?

dammit i'm broke
Gurbinder @ Nov 4th 2008 7:15PM
pfft... I dont even own a 360 or a ps3, im worse off lol
Sinister Rouge @ Nov 10th 2008 9:41AM
If you're a Wii owner you'll be up for North American Hunting Adventure, which could theoretically have a Deathmatch component if Dick Cheney is a playable character.
Akamaru @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:04AM
This is "I wish I could afford both consoles" week.
waves @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:42AM
Funny, I own all the consoles, and there's nothing that interests me this week.
I played both Gears 1 and Resistance 1 and found them pretty boring. I only finished them because I had a friend playing split screen co-op with me.
Mike @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:46AM
I kind of agree with you Waves. I can wait 6 months to play these games when I can buy a used copy.
waves @ Nov 3rd 2008 11:22AM
@Mike,
lol, looks like you're the only one, judging by how gray my comment is. Luckily I have Fable and Fallout to play right now, and LBP is probably my next purchase. Then I have to stop buying games until xmas so I can save some money for gifts and save some games for people to buy me.
Geoff Gibson @ Nov 3rd 2008 11:35AM
@waves
I totally agree with you. I also played both Resistance 1 and Gears 1 (I own both systems) and I found both of em to be... alright. Definitely nothing spectacular.
I'll eventually rent both of them from Gamefly simply to continue each's story (both had fairly good stories) but I'm really in no rush to play them.
With LittleBIGPlanet, Fable 2, and Tales of Vesperia still keeping me busy and with Left 4 Dead and BanjoKazooie coming out within the next fews weeks I am definitely fine with holding off.
+'s for both of you. :)
Haggard @ Nov 3rd 2008 11:45AM
I enjoyed the PC port of Gears 1, but found Resistance 1 to be pretty dull. The weapon design is interesting, but I must be 'not playing it right' or something.
Still, R2 doesn't look so bad - less grey, more co-op and colours ;D
Markez @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:42PM
I played all of Gears 1 with my then room-mate co-op, start to finish. Never did 1P mode at all.
We've both moved across the country to different locations so I'm really looking forward to the co-op campaign over live in GoW2.
Courtney @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:59PM
I'll second Markez' take. Playing both game's campaign in co-op made each vastly more fun for me.
waves @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:45PM
Agreed. I think that co-op was the one thing was impressive about both of those games. Together they set the standard for co-op on next-gen (maybe Gears a little more so). I'm hoping for Left4Dead to take that torch and run with it.
Lorem @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:06AM
Are most gamers employed by Burger King? It's $130 bucks for the combo.... soo expensive....
Guibs @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:33AM
It's not about working at burger king. It's about having lives. You see, we don't all live in your mommy's basement.
Some of us have wives, kids, 2 car payement, Morgage, etc. So buying a GAME a week gets expensive on the budget.
I'll be getting Gears of Wars 2 myself even if I'm not done with Deadspace (almost though, I am at chapter 11) Fable II and Fallout 3 (still didn't even put that one in my 360 so far).
FAT MAN @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:54AM
yeah $130 is alot if you like other forms of entertainment, like going bowling, going to the movies, or other stuff. But i guess if all you do is play games for entertainment, then no $130 isnt alot to support your hobby.
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:58AM
yea what ^^^HE said........
although I dont have but one car payment......2 kids, rent, insurance, cable/internet/phone, cellphone, food, lights......at least gas is down to $2/gallon........
some people dont have it THAT easy.....I've been sticking money to side for months in order to get a 360........so yea......glad I got gamefly.....Gonna Rent Both Gears 2 & Resistance 2 and then buy them when the price drops.....
Phizzy @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:23AM
Fuck, in the UK we pay about $7.57 a gallon.
Obie @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:29AM
Hey Lorem, not all of us can steal from our mom's wallet like you, ya know? ;)
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:37AM
@Phizzy
Damn......the British pound is just too damn strong.......lol
Chin-Poh @ Nov 3rd 2008 11:18AM
Even though us Americans complain about the higher cost of gas than years back, Europeans for instance have been accustomed to very high fuel prices for a long time. But yet, they also use much more public transportation, have much better infrastructures than parts of the U.S which we need to learn from, especially Houston. :(
mutd1999 @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:11PM
Fuck, us Canadians even spend way more on gas then you guys do in the States. :P
R @ Nov 3rd 2008 1:19PM
some of us are also poor college students working 1-2 days a week whos bodies are held together via caffiene, sugar, ramen noodles, and multi-vitamins.
Imma try and get Gears 2 and Fallout 3 for Xmas
Lorem @ Nov 3rd 2008 7:10PM
Hahaha please stop with the Mom jokes. Maybe you douches should get a real job so you can afford to have a kid, car, and house. Don't blame me for you poor decision in investments.
Darth_Ends @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:07AM
I still haven't finished Dead Space, Fable 2 or Fallout 3.
And I still want Little Big Planet and Valkyria Chronicles...
Sigh...
DangerMouse @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:03AM
The DS is the new NES, with its plethora of shitty games.
DangerMouse @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:04AM
fuckshit, that was meant for above.
Jnas @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:10AM
*looks at Wii list*
lolz.
WiiFTW @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:17AM
Fuck Nintendo
Comet @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:23AM
You guys just wait, Pop Star Guitar Will be fucking mind blowing.
acefondu @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:39AM
It's a sad state of affairs when the PS2 list looks better than the Wii list. But holy crap the PS3 and 360 list's are a boon to gamers everywhere. I've bought 3 games in less than a month and have around 5 more that interest me greatly.
Jakka @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:48AM
stfu comet u noob! Bratz Kidz is the shit!
Mr Khan @ Nov 3rd 2008 11:05AM
Yes, yes, because said list is cleary Nintendo's fault
Deeznuts420 @ Nov 3rd 2008 11:32AM
yes it is?
Obie @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:12AM
Cannot wait for Gears 2, nothing says you appreciate your friends than a chainsaw to the nuts!
Levi @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:18AM
oh I'll totally be picking up "Game Party/Cruis'n" (wtf kind of name...)
No but really, I never jumped on the Resistance bandwagon, I've always been looking forward to the next Killzone, but then I saw a commercial for R2. R1 looked kinda bland, should I give it a go? Am I wrong here??
Duke @ Nov 3rd 2008 11:09AM
R1 didn't shatter any FPS rules, but it was a solid and well done action title. I enjoyed it a lot. I will be grabbing R2 for sure, just because its nice to get some games that have high production values and a solid core engine, so the disappointment is less likely.
RanWitScissorz @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:19AM
Is it just me, or does every week have at least (1) Wii title with a S replaced with a Z in the name?
Vcize @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:55AM
Nice user name, btw.
Totally unrelated, of course.
Mike @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:44AM
DS usually has 2
Misfit Toy @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:27PM
Yeah, the rulez of writing sure have changed eh Scissorz?
RanWitScissorz @ Nov 3rd 2008 12:42PM
Unfortunately, the name I wanted was taken and had to replace the letter. Unlike the Wii titles, I doubt that "Brats Kids: Slumber Party", "Pets Sports", "Pets Horses Club", and "Brats: Girls Really Rock" were already taken and they had to resort to a Z. I forgot that making a comment (neither negative or positive) about the Wii would result in fanboy attack.
jumpshot @ Nov 3rd 2008 1:50PM
Well for one "Bratz" is the name of the franchise the game is based on. That's hardly Nintentdo's doing.
Mr Khan @ Nov 3rd 2008 2:13PM
Of course its Nintendo's fault
They should bring back the seal of quality
I'm selling my wii
/idiot mode
Vcize @ Nov 3rd 2008 2:29PM
LOL, man, I hate the Wii, don't blame it on that.
Even you have to admit the hypocrisy of complaining about people using 'z' to replace 's' in their titles, while posting under a username that does the exact same thing. I almost thought it was intentional at first...
RanWitScissorz @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:13PM
I complained or said something derogatory about Nintendo? More like I just had a question regarding title names. Way to blow things out of proportion Wii fanboys.
atrimus @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:19AM
"...well then, you think it's going to be tough paying rent this month."
yep. i'm one of those unfortunate chaps. got both reserved, and it has put a severe crunch on my wallet.
Madeira @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:20AM
Resistance isn't in the same league as Gears, come on now.
Hyams @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:43AM
IGN gave them both the same score (9.5).
Personally, I'll be buying Resistance 2, and playing my housemate's copy of Gears 2. Moar fun for me, I guess.
Madeira @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:00AM
OK. They're both identically good games. The PS3 gets Resistance, 360 gets Gears. If you were only going to get one and have both consoles- just make an arbitrary decision. They're both shooters and they both got a 9.5 from IGN.
FAT MAN @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:03AM
they gave them both the same score? i know there forums are raging with death threats and the like. i really cant believe they did that, and you know they did that to not start a flame war, but sheeeesh!
*now its time to insert my opinion thats written as if it were the truth* every body with both systems will tell you that GOW is better then resistance
i think gears graphics alone should have at least gave GOW2 a few more points( you cant beat perfection of the unreal engine).
