Warning: lame analogy alert.
Video games are a bit like friends. They come into your life and you have fun with them. But as times change, so do the games. Some we leave behind forever, but others we make an attempt to connect with despite physical barriers. Goldeneye 007 is one of those games.
While most of our favorite N64 classics have or will be making their way to the Virtual Console, it seems very likely that this gem will never escape licensing hell. It's the sole reason I keep my N64 around. This is a game that can keep four people playing until the early morning. Some prefer the pseudo-sequel Perfect Dark, which is an excellent game as well. But in this blogger's opinion, there's nothing that can top the multiplayer experience of Goldeneye 007. Well, except for the next two items.
This reminds me: Nintendo, we are starved for decent first-person shooters. Sure, Metroid Prime 3 was fun and The Conduit looks promising, but we need more than one shooter for every two years. Remember, this was supposed to be the system for FPSs. If you're like me, then you're craving more high-quality shooters but are too poor to afford a 360 or PS3. An acceptable solution is to check out the Timesplitters series for the GameCube (which is obviously playable on your Wii). In the meantime, let's hope that Free Radical (composed of former Rare employees who developed Goldeneye 007) quits flirting with us and finally announces that a Wii version of Timesplitters 4 is coming to our preferred system.
