UK vending machines that sell PS3 games revealed

Stuff is reporting that Sony and Universal have teamed up to create PoP "entertainment vending machines" to be distributed across the UK "in cinemas, gyms, universities and travel stations" this holiday season. In addition to selling PS3 titles, these babies will sell DVDs, Blu-ray movies, and direct music/movie downloads to your MP3, MP4 player, or an SD card. Check it out in action in a video here.

Similar machines have been spotted in the US for several years now, but they seem to have been limited to mostly airports. Do you think we'll ever see one of these vending machines in a local shopping center?

I don't understand who this would be marketed for. The only sales would be impulse buys outside a grocery store, and a bargaining tool to get your kids to behave in a grocery store.

Also this would be just be a bad idea, Politicians and news corespondents will liken them to cigarette machines. No control over sales of M rated games.

Simple solution: Don't use them to stock M rated games.

Sort of like that level in The Simpsons Hit & Run where Marge runs those M rated video game developers out of business :P

I think they've got something similar in the Walmart near me, except they dispense DVDs for rent.

what? you can RENT dvd's through a vending machine at your walmart? so they actually trust people to bring them back? Lmao

never once have I been at the gym or the movies and thought "Man i would love to buy a movie or a game right now".Airport maybe,but with their prices im sure a game would be 80 bucks

Don't see this doing well if it was in the US. With millions of sales occouring in games and downloable entertainment now, how much more will the Sony/Universal Snack Machine generate?

Guess which vending machines will get robbed every week?

People try to steal atm machines, it's only a matter of time before they try to haul one off.

I hope they make it state side :).

Yes! This is almost as good as that vending machine that made me a toasted cheese and ham sandwich!!
Much better than the vending machine that gave me a dodgy umbrella that broke almost instantly...

I hope you can mess with these like I do the drink machines at the movies.. 2 drinks for 1 lol.

Theres been a one of these in my local cinema for a couple of months now.

same here, theres been one at my local cinema selling DVDs for a good 6 months now, maybe longer. Cant imagine why anyone would use it though, not when theres a 4 other shops under the same roof selling DVDs

this kind of machine should stay in japan. we english are too violent. by the end of the week it'll be smashed and all it's contents stolen.
