WildTangent game studio veers out of existence, St. John becomes 'chairman'
WildTangent has shut down its internal development studio and laid off about 20 people, reports TechFlash. Furthermore, CEO Alex St. John, currently best known for preaching that this is the last generation of consoles, will be "promoted" to chairman, while COO Mike Peronto will take over CEO duties. St. John is expected to spend more time on the road being "the public voice of the company."
WildTangent's game studio, which may (doubtfully) have shown up on gamer's radars with Fate, isn't exactly a noticeable loss. The company has been surviving on its Orb digital distribution service and by managing advertising sales for several web sites -- oh yeah, and there's always its alleged spyware business.

One less spyware distributed under the guise of a game company to worry about.

They still exist. They just won't develop anymore. I think Kotaku mentioned that they have only developed 3 games in 2 years. They'll still distribute (spyware on your computer).

Titanium_Orchid @ Nov 3rd 2008 2:59PM
why does that logo remind of the Phantom?
macgyver @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:56PM
it looks more like the flying thing from the Stargate movie.

probably because they were both destined to fail

Fate is actually a good little title if you want to get a child into dungeon crawls, but most of those titles are too mature for. Not a bad diversion for $20 or so. I tried the demo a while back.

Yeah, I know a lot of you hate on the guy for allegations of his company distributing spyware, but keep in mind, without this guy we would not have the DirectX API for Windows.
Marty @ Nov 3rd 2008 5:59PM
Good riddance. All these guys did was peddle malware inside shitty games.

Thank god. That logo strikes hatred in me to this day. "Men in black II video game, I just saw the movie! That was boring, ok uninstall..... Why is it still there????"

Sweet! Any loss for wildtangent is a gain for humanity.
