"It's going to happen, just not sure when," said Bethesda Softworks' Pete Hines in a live interview with Eurogamer. Hines had no further details on the Trophy support to be found in Fallout 3. He ended his answer with: "
We'll let folks know when we have something more definitive."
Other than that statement, nothing else pertaining to the PS3 version was revealed in the interview. Hines did not mention a date for the Trophies, and -- more importantly -- he did not mention whether Trophies would be retroactive. We also wonder if they'll be somewhat identical to the 360's achievements. There are still so many questions, Pete. Hopefully you'll have all the right answers when you've got something "more definitive."
[Thanks Nuno D.!]

Why are games still coming out with no trophy support? It's dumb.

Fallout 3 has been in development for like 4 years and trophies came along a few months ago... so...

So... ? you trailed off..
If it was still in development after trophies.. what's the difference?
LBP was in development 2 years+.. has trophies from launch, no patch required.

Agreed...seems like it's time to shelve this one and maybe go play GTA IV all the way through for once. And LBP...finish Dead Space...etc.

I bought it for PS3 day one and played it for an hour or two and stopped... I played LBP and still am.
I will wait until the trophy patch to continue playing again.

I'm with ya on that one... been going back and forth between LBP and GTA IV now that it got trophies (and even to a small extent, BF:BC...for the same reason) :P
If Fallout 3 got trophies I might get back into it

I'm getting upset at the lack of retro active trophies being instituted. I beat GTA 4 100% and would have gotten every trophy other than one or two easy ones and now I have to go all the way back through to get the trophies. Same with Uncharted. Of course since these are great games I'm willing to go back and play them but with LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, Mirror's Edge, and so many more games coming out I don't have time to go back and beat all these games again.
I'm already 20 hours into Fallout. I guess for now I'm just going to have to devote my time to LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2.

It's to prevent people from cheating. If you're going to be mad, be mad at yourself for playing through those games before trophies, or be mad at cheaters for making Sony cautious about retroactive cheaters.

Wow. Those are some tough decisions to make and it must be hard for you with so little time to devote to hours and hours of videogames. [/sarcasm]
I really hope you're some teenager living at home. It sounds like you have a pretty easy life. Wait until you are working full time and going to school full time while facing a pretty deep recession. Enjoy your videogames while you can...

I'm not even that far. I just hoard stuff like crazy and have been making constant trips back and forth to Megaton.

Forget trophies. How about a patch so the game doesn't freeze everytime there is a system notification. This issue came up in reviews published BEFORE the games release and still no patch and no word on when one might be coming.

I guess the testers were testing it in a cave not to spot such a problem, I just turn my notifications off.

It's the only PS3 game ever made, EVER, that does this.
It's almost like they INVENTED a bug. Retarded Bethesda..and you gotta wonder how this problem made it through the Sony QA process after they submitted it.

That's cute but what about the custom soundtrack support?
Am I the only one who finds that to be more important than trophies to my enjoyment of this game?

I don't understand why people are so infatuated with having their own in-game music. I mean, maybe in certain games like racing and even fighting games, but for games like Fallout 3? The music is supposed to add to the atmosphere of the game, why would you want to play some random song you like instead of the ones the developers chose for that level?

There's no need for custom soundtracks, especially in a game like Fallout 3, where the musical selections are all part of the atmosphere. The only games I can think of that should have custom soundtracks are racing games and GTA-types. Otherwise, I think it's a useless feature.

@Chalupa: If you've ever played Fallout3, wandering through the wastes for 20 minutes with either:
A. A looping radio station
B. A looping radio station
C. Oblivion flute music
then you'll agree that this game needed custom soundtracks pretty desperately.

I don't understand why something simple like custom soundtracks can't be implemented for the PS3.
Can someone please explain? I doubt it's because Microsoft has rights to that technology..

Really long running games like this are the exact type that definitely needs a custom radio station. I tolerated the Oblivion Soundtrack for a while but after playing in that world for hours upon hours (as the creators intend for you to do) any type of music would become tiresome.
The second I heard the colonial fife music in the demo, I knew I would need a custom soundtrack option for this game or I would end up microwaving the disc. Annoying music (as opposed to Oblivions rather bland and ignorable background music) makes the custom soundtrack option more desirable than the trophies.
And that's beside the fact that I'm starting to come around on the idea of trophies, now that they might be rewarding players for them. I just think they should be rather low on the list of functional priorities programmers have to take into consideration this generation. Below things like custom soundtrack and video capture which (to me) sound way cooler and add more to my appreciation of most any given game.

2 things:
1. Trophies for Fallout 3 will NOT be retroactive, nor will any title with a trophy patch in the future, it's just the nature of trophies.
2. Fallout 3 is an amazing experience, I would most definitely be willing to start over numerous times.

How about patching this beta release that Bethesda likes to call a game, before patching in trophies. I can't even get through the damn thing because of so many bugs and freezing errors. My PS3 can only take so many hard reboots.

Sounds to me like your systems broken, and the part where is freezes when there's a notification, i do believe they did that on purpose. its actually pausing the game so u dont miss nuthin while lookin at who got on or off. thats just my view.

OMG. but this is a game you would be happy to play more then once. I just started playing and i'm about 10 hours into it. maybe I'll hold of on playing it to get some trophies. should i finish it or hold off?
Posted: Nov 4th 2008 7:08PM (Unverified) said
Finish it and play like a dick the next time around. It'll be more challenging and you'll feel like you earned the trophies.
Unless you're playing like a dick your first time through. I'm not...I'm trying to be fairly neutral to collect stuff.

I don't mind about the trophies...never a big thing to begin with. It *is* too bad they had them ready for the 360 but not the ps3, but we already know which console is the priority one for Bethesda.
That said, I can see myself playing through this at least one more time, in a different way (as a completely evil character), so it'd still be fresh and interesting.

Considering how much I've not enjoyed this game on PC, I couldnt care less about their future content plans for the PS3 version. I'm certainly not forking out another penny to Bethesda. I already feel self-depricated, having spent $50 to download it once.
The people who spent their money on the PS3 version deserve to have the game run and look identically to the other versions before additional features need be considered.

Here's something a patch needs to address. "Activate Nuclear Bomb"... you know long it took me to figure out how to disarm the Nuclear Bomb in the town when the only option appears to be to "activate" it? Took me forever to figure out how to get the quest done, and felt like an idiot when I tried it. Should say something like "examine" or even "use". Not "activate".

As creepy and eerie the soundtrack from the main radiostation is, after about the 400th time you start wishing for a little diversity. That, and I grow really tired of hearing DJ say the same things all over again.
Why not take a cue from GTA IV and design a much more dynamic radio? You don't even need many channels (hard to do in post-apocalyptic fallout anyway)...just find more damned tunes and put them on the main station.
