brickwalker0 @ Nov 4th 2008 4:54PM
did you try the demo?
you should atleast give it some credit for being original and having a fresh perspective on first-person games.

"wow really i dont usually comment on bad games but this is beyond stupid who would pay money? wow..."
Gamers that are interested in it?
caserb @ Nov 4th 2008 6:57PM
You do realize that none of the video is gameplay footage, right?
The game itself is going to be rad. the demo is a lot of fun.
Bad marketing, I kind of have to agree. It looks too much like an e-surance commercial.
I saved a bunch of money on my auto insurance by switching to Geico!
fabian @ Nov 5th 2008 12:57AM
yes ino i should try the game first and now i did and i somewhat take back what i said, but not all of it. Caserb is completly right with the esurance part but the game really isnt that fun to me. Its not a bad story line though
Titanium_Orchid @ Nov 4th 2008 4:43PM
I'm super psyched for this game.
On an unrelated note? Has anybody seen the "Cougars on the Loose!!" ad on this site? And not, its not referring to the big cats
Jakka @ Nov 4th 2008 4:49PM
You mean attractive older women?

I played through the demo on the PS3 a couple of nights ago and enjoyed it. It won't be a day one purchase, but I'll be picking it up at some point during the holiday season.
sk8monroe81 @ Nov 4th 2008 4:52PM
yeah i thought this game could be great and new.. but after playing the demo i am pretty sick of the game. demos arent everything, however, this demo shows the gameplay and controls and the game is just not fun and very unrealistic.
parkour is a real thing and this game is trying to be realistic, however this game is very fake. no person could do the moves they do in the game.
the game is not fun either.
did anybody enjoy the demo of this game???
sk8monroe81 @ Nov 4th 2008 4:53PM
and the cartoon cut scene graphics are very lame IMO.
run n gun 26 @ Nov 4th 2008 5:05PM
I enjoyed it.
J @ Nov 4th 2008 5:19PM
At first i couldn't get into the demo. But when i got used to the controls, i found a couple shortcuts, and it's SO satisfying when u build up enuff speed and momentum and knock down a guard with on jump kick. I also pulled off a wall jump kick and spun the guard around, then grabbed his gun.
You gotta mess around with it. It has potential.
Titanium_Orchid @ Nov 4th 2008 5:30PM
The game is trying to be realistic in any way.
I think of this game as something closer to a racing game than an FPS, and so far I have really enjoyed the demo. I got a code for the time trial mode so I will test that out tonight.
Titanium_Orchid @ Nov 4th 2008 5:39PM
GODDAMNIT
*not trying to be realistic
Chalky @ Nov 4th 2008 6:22PM
I enjoyed it too.
It wasn't that it was parkour or the story.
It was just the feel. Really involving.
Immersion is not necessarily realism.
Some people don't seem to realize that.
InfinityPlusOne @ Nov 4th 2008 6:45PM
To be honest, I was really excited about this game until I played the demo on PS3. The control scheme just doesn't feel right. The controls in the demo often felt quite sluggish and sloppy. I really like the cut scenes where the computer takes over and moves Faith around for you. Now if I could maneuver like that in the actual game, it would be a more satisfying experience. Perhaps I need to give it a few more go's. (I've tried the demo 3 times so far). I recall my friend trying it out and he kept missing this one jump from a building to a pipe on the side of another building causing Faith to fall to her death. I watched him try that one part a good 12 times or so.
Titanium_Orchid @ Nov 4th 2008 6:50PM
@InfinityPlusOne
The controls are very well thought out and very tight. They do take some time to get accustomed to though, as they are nowhere near standard.
Also, your friend needs to stop sucking so much. :P
sk8monroe81 @ Nov 4th 2008 7:03PM
chalky- immersion?
this game did not immerse me enough into the environement. i did not feel like i was falling or anything close to that. there is not much immersion.
games that immerse me in the environment have better sound and graphics and story.
story is a big part of immersion into a game world.
i got immersed into bioshock and dead space... games that actually make me feel what they wanted to.
now a game about parkour style is trying to be realistic. she is not a hero or fantasy character and she has no magic. so it has to be somewhat realistic if there is no sci fi or fantasy.
sk8monroe81 @ Nov 4th 2008 7:05PM
titanium- how is up movement left button and down movement left trigger great controls and well thought out?
i dont like the controls at all myself.
dont u guys and gals feel this is too much of a button masher ???
Titanium_Orchid @ Nov 4th 2008 7:21PM
@sk8
Your arguing that Mirror's Edge is a simulation based on the following facts.
1. She is not a hero or fantasy character - Faith is the protagonist and most likely the hero of the story.
2. A game must have sci-fi or fantasy/magic in order for it to not be a simulation - this is a ridiculous comment.
Like is stated before, the controls are very well thought out. They allow the player to control every aspect of movement and interaction at any time and in a lot of combinations. If you think they are bad, I would like you to seriously sit down and think about a better scheme, because you probably won't be able to.
Also, if you are mashing buttons, your probably playing the game wrong.
sk8monroe81 @ Nov 4th 2008 7:36PM
titanium- what i mean is that the moves the girl does in the game could not be completed by any human. that takes realism out of the picture. even though this is a parkour style game. which is a real style.
then in order for anybody to do these moves they would have to possess special abilities or magic powers. we have not seen that with faith yet. u are calling her the hero because she is the main character in the game.
what i meant by hero is special abilities.
and i never said anything about simulation.
only realism and immersion.
a character though must possess special powers or magic to complete these moves as a character that portrays a real human. thats all i was saying.
the game doesnt add up or make much sense to me.
pressing buttons and having a character do special moves is no big thing to me and doesnt make me happy. sorry.
i can think of many games i enjoyed the controls much more than this game. all shooters have great controls most of the time. RPG's do too.
R @ Nov 5th 2008 1:47AM
Saying that none of this is possible...heavily exaggerated. I played the demo three times, and the only really unrealistic part to me is the bulletproofness, which I guess you need to make the game fun.
I suggest you watch a few parkour videos. Just because YOUR body cant do it doesnt make it impossible. The human body is capable of doing incredible things if trained right, and in the game, Faith has probably had years worth of training and practice. For example, the whole "wall run, spring off wall and grab ledge" thing is very possible, as is the balancing on a pipe, the wall climbing parts...really its very well done.
Oh, and if "pressing buttons to make a character do special things" isnt entertaining to you then um...gaming is most definitely NOT your ideal hobby, as that is a very large percent of what gaming is.
For me, this game has really opened up my eyes. Never thought a game that didnt involve large amounts of fighting could be so fun.

I thought the demo was a very refreshing. I tried it on the PS3 (tho I meant to compare on the 360 as well). The detail and control you have is amazing. Everything about your movements can be polished depending on how you approach it (which buttons you press and when). The atmosphere of the game is very clean and crisp too from the menus to in-game, aside from some jaggies.
Cellien @ Nov 4th 2008 5:16PM
