PS3 firmware 2.52 fixes text entry, some playback issues
While most of America is busy watching a football game or something, Sony has released a new firmware update, version 2.52, to the PlayStation 3. What does it do? Not much, according to the official PS blog:
- The playback quality of some PS3 format software has been improved.
- A text entry issue that occurs when using the on-screen keyboard, USB keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard with some PS3 format software has been addressed

I wish they would fix the server error I get when streaming large files on Surf The Channel. The TV shows and anime work great but none of the movies load. I want my in theatre movies without using Bit Torrent damn it!
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Nov 4th 2008 10:45PM
what is this 'Surf The Channel' you speak of? if its what i think it sounds like, thanks i advance, ive been lookin for something to fulfill the 'Movie Forumz+Stage 6' void for a while. Torrents take so damn long.
Sackolantern PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Nov 4th 2008 11:58PM
you can use www.Surfthechannel.com on your PS3 now. They have every movie and TV show you could think of. The movies don't load ont he PS3 but the tv shows do.
ANother good one for you computer (not ps3 yet) is www.watch-movies.net ... no need to ever bit torrent a movie again. All movies a day or two after the theatre release.
Jakka @ Nov 5th 2008 9:21AM
"... no need to ever bit torrent a movie again"
Yes, yes there is. It's called quality :P

"no need to ever bit torrent a movie again"
Sure, if you connect your PS3 to a 19" CRT...

They are the same copies & quality you get from bi torrent downloads. If it crappy on bit torrent it's crappy to stream. However, most streams are easily DVD quality. I prefer to simply watch rather than downloading for a full day.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Nov 4th 2008 10:36PM
wow. i noticed that text entry problem in LBP. the text is just slow to respond so you have to type real slow. i thought it was just a problem with LBP but im glad its fixed.
and speaking of text entry, when does that official PS3 mini keyborad come out? i know its mid-november but does anyone have an exact date? i really want that thing bad lol.
Luke @ Nov 5th 2008 4:31AM
I saw it at Best Buy just today.
Sackolantern PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Nov 5th 2008 12:26PM
there is a mad cats one that's been out. Official Sony one is out sometime in Nov. Also, the PSN cards will also be at BB & Wal Mart this month.
PSN: Erdie @ Nov 4th 2008 10:39PM
Download started, now back to whatever I was watching.
severian00 @ Nov 5th 2008 12:33AM
Yeah no kidding, for something that is supposed to do so little, it's taking forever to download. Whole process took about 15 min. That's rediculous.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Nov 4th 2008 10:39PM
oh and are you sure its '2.5.2' and not '2.52'? not a big deal but i didnt think Sony numbered their updates in that fashion (x.x.x).
dyre @ Nov 4th 2008 10:45PM
I was in the middle of racing a leaderboard ghost in Mirror's Edge when the update booted me from any internet connectivity. Which booted me from my time trial.
Not a very smooth transition for upgrading. They should at least let you keep your connection up to 5 minutes before booting you for a mandatory update.
D_Average @ Nov 5th 2008 10:31AM
Same thing happened to me. It was odd, I had to install the update before going online again in LBP.

"While most of America is busy watching a football game..."
What Joystiq?! Is that what you think where doing?
You think we're home wearing the numbered jersey facepaint with greasy potato chips on the side of the recliner chair yelling at the tv as if they could hear us say "YOU SUCK YOU STUPID BLIND REF!!" as beer is spilt on the floor from all the jeering, booing and cheering at a crappy 1950s tv within a smoke filled one room apartment with roaches and rat crap everywhere?! [Denis Leary rant/run-on sentence]
That's you view Americans Joystiq? [you really don't] Well, NOW I know how Joystiq views Americans! I'm so offended! [sarcasm/blatant lie] I'm never posting on this blog again! [blatant lie with whiney ending]
But seriously, a firmware update sounds great. :)
Mohammed @ Nov 5th 2008 5:05PM
If there were a football game today.
Beano @ Nov 5th 2008 1:19AM
Relax - Joystiq's comment reg. footbal was obviously a joke.
KarlW @ Nov 5th 2008 7:29AM
All those tags made the rant seem a little apprehensive. It's complaining 101: commit. Let the Engadget-loves-Apple people teach you.
343 Guilty Fart @ Nov 4th 2008 11:40PM
Is there something on TV, am I missing some joke here?

All of you are missing the actual news, Joystiq has a banhammer.
CarpeD1em500 @ Nov 5th 2008 12:18AM
hahaha is that like the hammer in halo 3? if so, i'd watch out. that thing is a bitch to get hit with...

its covered in dust though, i can think of a few who deserve it but haven't gotten it yet
Lavat @ Nov 5th 2008 12:39AM
"Anywhere else on the site and you'll get the banhammer."
Says the guys who had to post how much each candidate was spending in videogame ads and which proceeded to let everyone have long drawn out talks about what they think about politics.
Mike Crazy @ Nov 5th 2008 2:39AM
I can't believe Sony actually....OBAMA WON! Who Cares what Sony did. Now it's time to forget politics and starting play Naruto Ninja Storm! And hopefully the update make those Divx videos that don't play work!
TheNewmanDynasty @ Nov 5th 2008 1:10AM
I'm sorry Joystiq. As an African American I'm just overcome with emotion at his victory.
I apologize for posting off topic but yeah I'm so excited and happy. My faith in the American People and the American Dream has been restored!
Graham Wellington (formerly tyrone washington, or marsha goldberg) @ Nov 5th 2008 4:44AM
dude, its cool. this is one of those moments where you'll tell your kid where you were when it happened. its a great, great moment. i teared up at his speech in the park.
j.howlett @ Nov 5th 2008 10:48AM
enjoy it
Jouten @ Nov 5th 2008 1:21AM
This is a bit off topic, but, have any of you found a bluetooth headset that is equivalent to the Xbox 360's wireless headset? I haven't been able to find one that has the same quality or better yet.
Thanks.
Sim and Sim @ Nov 5th 2008 9:18AM
and you never will because the internet can never be impartial... the only way you'll find out is to get both.. I have the PS3 one and I really like it, it works far better than my previous logitech wired one, and comes with a charging doc.. it can be a bit rough on the ears the first time though...
etcrane @ Nov 5th 2008 1:44AM
Are you not considering the official PS3 bluetooth headset as one of your options? I've been fairly happy with mine in regards to quality and ease of pairing. I'd say it's a better deal to buy it bundled with SOCOM than separately, but if you can get it for 5 or 10 off, then even better. Hopefully my keyboard will start working as well as the official headset with this latest update.
Jouten @ Nov 5th 2008 1:47AM
I haven't tried that one yet. But I really liked the noise cancelling ability of my 360's wireless headset. My bluetooth headset I use with my PS3 has feedback on it from other users and doesn't filter out other noises besides my voice as good as my 360's. I would like to have equal quality on both headsets.
Titanium_Orchid @ Nov 5th 2008 3:18AM
The headset that comes with SOCOM has great clarity and noise cancelation. If your thinking about getting a new wireless headset, buy that one. I like it more than the 360's.
Also, there is a reply button at the bottom right of each new post. get to know it.
Vcize @ Nov 5th 2008 10:26AM
I like that they like to fix stuff, but for FFS can they put some of these in their pocket and roll several of them into one update with more time in between them?
My copy of LBP finally came in yesterday, so I called up a buddy to meet me online to play at lunch. I got home, have to download firmware 2.50. Reboot. Installing. Reboot. Updating database (wtf?). Reboot. Then, install LittleBigPlanet.
By that time, it was time to go back to work.
rockstargodzu @ Nov 5th 2008 10:45AM
For the love of god, please fix the BC issue for all of the SSX games!!!
tom @ Nov 5th 2008 12:37PM
How about fixing that pesky 1080i scaling issue? Seriously, I have a 1080i only TV and I wont buy a PS3 until NONE of the games get downgraded to 480 for me. Who wants to play Resistence in 480 on a HI-DEF TV?
Popfrogs @ Nov 5th 2008 3:02PM
If it'll only do 1080i, it's not HD. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that's what sucks about being an early adopter.
BTW save your money for a real HDTV not some ancient flower press. Rumor has it Black Friday will have some HDTVs, LCD or otherwise, for $500.
tom @ Nov 5th 2008 3:05PM
sorry PopFrog. Not about to spend 500 on a new TV just so I can spend another 400 on a PS3 just to get PS3 exclusive games. Thanks for the negativity though!
