Valkyria Chronicles' Japanese DLC goes west early next year
The PlayStation Blog reveals that Valkyria Chronicles, the well-received strategy RPG which releases today in North America, will have its Japanese DLC translated for western audiences early next year.
The DLC includes an extra mission and an "Extra Hard" skirmish mode. There is currently no price announcement for the content. Definitely check out the demo, currently available on the PSN, if you have even the slightest interest in SRPGs.

Well this works out for me. You see, because these dumb bastadrs decided to park all this crap in the middle of this time of year, a title which would have been a day 1 purchase two months ago is now either a "look for sale" or "January purchase" for me.
Game crowding... sucks because I wanted to support this day 1, just not in the budget no more.

I hear this game has an amazing well thought out story...anyone who has it care to comment?
Also it looks very beautiful and the art style is definitely very unique and adds to value IMO.
Is this a first party title was it a 3rd party effort?

Deved by Sega

Sweet I can hope for a port...
I know it's not likely but still. I hope the game sold decent even though it's a sony game.
Hyams @ Nov 4th 2008 8:39PM
Woah woah woah ... you actually *like* a PS3 exclusive?
... does this mean the world is about to end, or something?
Anyways, I'm not entirely sure why the game is exclusive. It's developed and published entirely by Sega, so a port is certainly possible.
TheNewmanDynasty @ Nov 4th 2008 9:46PM
hyams there's your selective vision again.
I've always expressed my interest in God of War 3 and FFXIII Versus. And more recently I'm intrigued by that new Tecmo Gears of War like game...
Plus this is a game made by Sega...not sony. I can't really think of many sony made 1st part titles that I care for...
But hey continue to spew your garbage lies...like your good old buddy John McCain.

Well it's a day 1 purchase for me tomorrow. Already have it pre-ordered based off the amazing gameplay in the demo. The demo was pretty easy and short but it gave me an idea of how the game would play out. I liked the style of it.
It's probably exclusive so Sega could optimize it for the PS3 and take advantage of it's strengths. From what I read on the Playstation Blog it runs on the canvas engine. Think about it like this - The PS3 is short on JRPGs and this should move very well as a PS3 exclusive.
I wouldn't rule out an eventual port to the 360 sometime next year. Nothing is confirmed yet but probably similar to what we saw with Eternal Sonata on the 360. Just like we saw 360 RPG exclusives from 3rd parties that should have been multiplatform on the PS3 we are seeing that with Valkyria Chronicles. Eternal Sonata, Tales Of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery & Last Remnant all went exclusive or timed exclusive on the 360 for no real rhyme or reason.
Valkyria Chronicles & White Knight Chronicles are two PS3 exclusives we are seeing this year that are similar in situation to the 360 games I mentioned.

Star Ocean as well next march is a 360 exclusive. FF went multiplatform (only in North America) but it looks like (for the moment) FF VS is still a PS3 exclusive.
I guess it's either a back door deal thing or it's an optimization thing. More cost effective to just deliver one version now and decide if a port is necessary based on sales. That way you tie up as much internal development money when there is no guarantee of financial success.
TheNewmanDynasty @ Nov 4th 2008 10:04PM
At John I don't want to get anyone angry and this is completely just gueswwork on my part but I feel like the exclusivity of Versus depends on the main FFXIII.
If it does well then I can see Versus also being ported over. Of course I want that to happen for lots of reasons.
I'm VERY excited for Star Ocean!

Hey I don't really disagree with you that much about FF VS. I think anyone who owns both a PS3 & 360 will buy FF on the PS3 being it's the lead platform. Obviously still being exclusive to Japan the PS3 will see a huge sales boost when FF releases and we can pretty much guarantee FF VS will be exclusive to Japan. And white knight chronicles is actually published by Sony so that makes sense.
Level 5 is one of the premier developers in the world. Professor Layton is the best DS game E-V-A-R and they are also working on a joint project with Studio Ghibli on a DS game. They are making two PSP games and one PS3 game.
Here is some information on White Knight Chronicles. If you like RPGs you should at least check out the videos and stuff.

The second link is to the Sony Japan page. It is done using google translator. You don't need translate to see the beautiful concept art for the game.

hey you should also check out the gameplay footage of Heavy rain. There is a new 20 minute feature on Joystiq & PS3 fanboy from a day or so ago. If you just look at the game it seriously is the best looking in game quality graphics I have ever seen. Thats also on a bad feed! I can't speak if the game will be great but Indigo prophecy was decent (same developer). Just looking at the graphics it's enough to blow you away. Looks like CG cut scenes but it's all in game and in real time.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Nov 4th 2008 11:59PM
I doubt Versus will go multiplat. Reasons are many but I'll focus on Nomura. Nomura was pissed about the breaking exclusive and he's primarily the sole reason why FFXIII is an exclusive in Japan and Asia territories because, from what I hear, Nomura threatened to walk. And SquareEnix has only one "face" right now getting all the rage and that's Nomura. He was the one who publicly stated XIII Vs. will remain exclusive and if SquareEnix wants all the Kingdom Hearts they can milk, Nomura should be listened to.
The other reason why I feel it won't wander is worldwide, DMC4 did better on PS3 despite the install fiasco. 360's fanbase is great for Gears (so why is Tecmo putting their clone of it on PS3 only?!?) but PS3 still has the Eastern Action front locked up in Japan and Europe. While FFXIII can go multiplat, there is little reason to apply pressure for Vs. to do the same.
But then again, I never expected SquareEnix to suddenly start supporting PSP worth a damn either so... yeah.

I played the demo, and I was rather disappointed with the fact that not everything was voice acted and how some visuals were rather pixelated. For example, in the large map that is used as a planning screen, some pixelated head comes up and says something like "Here's what we need to do!" then a text box pops up describing the objectives with no voice acting. Kinda takes you out of things.
Titanium_Orchid @ Nov 4th 2008 7:52PM
Yea, that combination of voice acting and text boxes kind of bothered me to. I would rather have text with no voice, or vice versa.
Not exactly a game breaker though
jimmygotsmack @ Nov 4th 2008 9:20PM
Are you sure you aren't mistaking the art style as pixelated? Anyway, I too would have liked to actually hear more voice work, instead of just the opening cut scene for the mission, but this was a demo after all. Yet, somehow I don't think that changed in the actual game.
mindshed @ Nov 4th 2008 9:25PM
I appreciate the "scribbled-yet-smooth" color pencil art style in the cut scenes and the in-game action, but the talking heads that tell you what to do in the map section have a completely different style this is very pixelated and looks like something off the wii, or even the PS2.
jimmygotsmack @ Nov 4th 2008 9:15PM
How hard is it to translate one mission and Extra hard to English?!
Disgaea 3 is doing this with DLC too. Why do they need to wait all the way until next year to translate a new character? Apparently it takes months just to translate all the characters moves and stats......
I'm sure there something else going on, but its just odd.
