GTA IV hijacks top spot in Japan sales chart

From Capcom designer Yokshiki Okamoto: "Rockstar is not unsuccessful in Japan, but their success here is on a much smaller scale than elsewhere in the world market. The low Japanese sales of the sandbox-style GTA series simply do not make any sense to me."

Well, it looks like that trend has stumbled into a dark alley and been bludgeoned to death. According to Famitsu's weekly charts, Grand Theft Auto IV for PlayStation 3 has claimed the top spot in software sales in its debut week. The Xbox 360 version took the 4th spot. Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One and LittleBigPlanet (PS3) took 2nd and third place, respectively. Exact numbers haven't been released yet. Full top ten list after the break.

GTA4 is the only thing in the top 30, but Fracture and Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway picked up a few sales too.

And it wouldn't help any. You know why? Because the Wii is actually a good videogame console unlike the other two.

El serpiente, if you have watched the sales data at all, you will know that this is a very rare occurrence. What's more, GTA4 actually sold only about 150.000 copies total on both platforms combined... less than Wii Music has sold to date. Next week is the real kicker: if Wii Music stays, and GTA4 and LBP drop out, then they have no hope of outselling it in lifetime sales in Japan.

You got it backwards. 12 is the target age for Xbox 360. Meanwhile, PS3 isn't targeted at any age.

This may as well be entirely contradictorily to the higher sales in 360s. Although the reason may be that the Japanese do not know what the hell to do with this American hardware (that was not manufactured in America...).

But the sales for the 360 may actually pick up in the next 2 months with the rise of the Japanese taking to foreign Game Development. And might nearly beat out the Wii, I am pulling all of this out of my ass.

If you also see a rise in Violence it might prove the case of Violent video games effecting people with the ultra violent GOW2 and all, In which all credibility of sourced information goes to me and this post....

Well console preferences aside, it does continue to reinforce GTA4's Game of the Year potential.

It's a shame Fallout 3 came out. This effort is for naught.

I dont think a game that is broken by swinging a baseball bat aimless stands any chance of being GOTY.
