Missing gamer Brandon Crisp believed to be found dead

Sad news to report today, as CTV station CP24 reports that Brandon Crisp, a Barrie, Canada teenage gamer who went missing last month, has presumably been found dead by local police. Police discovered what is believed to be Crisp's body on Fifth Line. Crisp had gone missing on October 13 after a fight with his parents over his excessive gaming habits. Following his disappearance, local businesses and Microsoft had offered rewards to those with any information regarding Crisp's whereabouts.

CTV reports further that Sgt. Dave Goodbrand of the Barrie police said the department believed the body to be that of Crisp, but that it is waiting for pathology before making an official confirmation.

Details regarding the boy's death are unconfirmed at this time.

not much to say but that it really sucks.

I hope this doesn't happen anymore. I hope parents get involved in the lives of their kids and set up boundaries including how long they play and what they play. Parents really need to step up and be responsible.

Xav, I think everyone that has read the story understands why Microsoft got involved. However, you'll find people who will take the whole story out of context like Mik and Mark has done.

Very sad. I feel for Brandon's family and friends, and hope very much that those responsible are brought to justice.

This obviously extends beyond the usual "video games ruined my kid" story. Clearly something more sinister than a COD4 addiction was at work here. Tragic.

It's a shame what happened. You may find salvation in your "good book", and he found salvation with "harmless fun" on the internet. Hug your children, and perhaps get involved with their gaming habits - do not discourage them,.

There is plenty of money to make and a future to be had by working in the gaming industry and the passion should be nurtured, not punished. If you have problems with the amount of time your child spends playing "games", perhaps you should become a tighter part of his life, and less of an authority figure.

Anything in excess can be bad. We weren't there...we can't say. He could have read about programming or math...just playing games isn't going to make you a game programmer.

Parents are authority figures...not friends. The parent can play some games with the children but that does not take away from a limit the child needs to have on the amount they play.

Imagine how the father feels after knowing he helped pack the kids bags...

As a father myself, I couldn't possibly imagine. There's just no way. Regardless of what other things might have been a factor in the boy's disappearance, my thoughts go out to the parents.

This is very sad. Its not just the parents fault though, the kid wasn't thinking either. Now what do you do? Hope that the body is some other teen?

How can you put partial blame on the kid? He was 15yrs old. Kids make irrational, stupid mistakes. Adults make them too but a parent is supposed to be there to help stop something dire from happening. Instead, the father was acting just as childish as his child.

The kid is 15 years old. Only 1 year away from being able to drive on our roads. Only 3 years away from being able to vote. He has his own brain. I'm not saying its completely his fault, but it isn't only the parents' fault.

Unfortunately, many stupid things that teenagers do can end in death. The older you get, the more you'll understand that many adults out there are still teenagers in adults bodies trying to make it in the world. Parents still do stupid things and there's no manual to tell you how to approach every situation. So far this story just sounds tragic all the way around. I'd bet his dad wishes he could take the whole thing back. Saying that he should kill himself is a messed up thing to say. Frankly, you don't sound like a much better person.

Hopefully there is no dead body! I hope it was a decomposing beehive they find and not "another teen".

Saying "his father should kill himself" is hateful and totally uncalled for. Sure, he made a mistake in this case that had grave consequences, and surely nobody regrets that more than him. But let's be honest here: it was a mistake made out of love for his son.

I feel for everyone involved here; this is truly a tragic story. We need to be careful before lumping these parents into the Jack Thompson category and remember that they lost a child here. Nobody should ever have to go through that.

Yes they may have been the ones making their son run away but they were only looking out for him like all good parents do.I hope people realize that.

The parents poor judgment helped to expedite their sons death in this case.

They knew he had a problem and choose the wrong way to deal with it. They made a mistake, but you are still held responsible for mistakes.

Most likely he was projecting his own self loathing in order to cope with the situation. If things truly transpired the way that they were reported, this guy is already blaming himself. We should pity him.

I tend to agree... it seems more then a little suspicious. Especially when they were trying to say that LIVE users lured him away or encouraged him in some way.

I have been thinking the same thing since this story broke. Now with the info they think they have found his body it only makes my belief that much stronger. Over 70% of missing persons that end up dead were killed bye family members.

After first reading this story then following it as new details were being released my heart hurt more and more for the family as I started to fear for the worst. Being a parent and most that are will agree that no matter what your children mean more to you than anything else. This story leaves me with a sick feeling in my gut because I can't imagine the pain, confusion and the stark possibility of guilt they are now being faced with. My thoughts and prayers go out to this family, I hope that they can rest easy knowing that they will see their child again...even though there is closure...their lives will never be the same...I wish this could have turned out differently but the only silver lining is he's in a better place.

I feel no remorse for this kid. His mother laid down the law for him ("your grades suck, you're not playing 360 'till they improve"). His reaction is to flip out, pack his bags, and leave OVER A GODDAMN 360. For those of us who were raised by decent parents who were strict but not overbearing, the correct reaction would be to fix your damn grades and listen to your parents, not run BAWWWWING off into the woods!

One less retarded, hate-spewing kid on Xbox Live playing M-rated games. Good riddance.
