I don't want to judge but I hate that video games gets blamed for things like this. If the kid left because of an argument with his parents and was able to take off then got into something that got him killed there was much more going on then video games. I feel sorrow for their family but it is a sign that we need to spend more time with our kids and building relationships with our kids not hoping that other people will fix them for us.

My heart goes out to the Crisp family. They are excellent parents, with the best intentions, but the mind of a 15 year can be very irrational.
I went through this stage with my son and it is only luck that determines if your child will remain safe. Don't punish yourself, just remember all the good things about Brandon.

I believe Brandon Crisp may have died from hypothermia, if anything. He wasn't dressed for the weather as it dipped down at night that week. As far as starving to death he wasn't in a remote part of Canada - he was a few miles from Barrie - a growing city. A human being can go without food for two weeks, but not water for more than a few days (and that's probably generous). Near Barrie, lack of water would not be an issue and as far a food goes, there's tons of plant life, so again my sense is that he froze to death. The whole thing is extremely tragic and my heart goes out to those parents and his sisters. No one is to blame here - just a set of really, unfortunate circumstances.

From Wikipedia

Police ended the ground search for Brandon on October 30, 2008, but made clear that the investigation was on-going and continuing around-the-clock. One week later, on November 5, hunters discovered Brandon's body in a field near what had been the police search area. An autopsy confirmed the identity of the teen via dental records and determined the cause of death to be "injuries to the chest area that are consistent with a fall from a tree". Barrie Police noted that no foul play was suspected, and that the investigation was ongoing to determine an exact timeline.

Fuck. What were the parents thinking?

What was more safe?... for their son to be at HOME with THEM, enjoying his hobby of playing video games... or going out in the woods & DIEING?

Fuck. What idiots.

And to the whole argument that video gaming was becoming an "excessive" thing for Crip... BULL-shit.... what kind of argument is that?

There are so many kids out there playing soccer non-stop, or building boats & go-karts... and there are many who are always painting pictures, or reading books...

THEY ARE ALL HOBBIES, and gaming for Brandon was a hobby. It makes no difference whether it was a game or a skipping rope. The situation should have been treated as it would have been with everything else. And ina good bargaining manner too. He wasn't 10 years old, you can't just order them around like slaves at 15-16... at that age they have responsibilities to be taught to them, thats why you bargain with them & give them a fair go... treat them with respect as they would for you!

And to anyone who claims his father was using reverse psychology by telling him to pack his bags & call his bluff... piss off. What if Brandon was using reverse psychology in doing so?

He's the father. The older one & should used his HEAD!... but instead they have a son who passed away because they couldn't put their ego's to the side & realize their son wasn't 8 years old anymore.
