While fighting game fans know they must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance, players in Japan will soon be able to try from the comfort of their couch. Dengeki Online reports that Capcom plans to release the console versions of Street Fighter IV in February 2009, with a feature-length SFIV anime directed by Akira animator Koji Morimoto given away as a preorder bonus.
Interestingly, while this announcement currently only pertains to Japan, it echoes an earlier report which indicated that the game and its console-specific roster would "definitely" hurricane kick its way to Western audiences sometime this winter, most likely alongside the upcoming Chun-Li-focused Street Fighter film. Could a global launch announcement be far behind?

While I was in Japan last month the arcades were full of Street Fighter IV. Looks like a cool game.

I'm still upset about the art direction, but hopefully the animation will be fluid and the controls responsive enough to make this worth picking up. If not, I'm totally just gonna rock SF2 HD on Live.

The new character models are kinda retarded, but from what I've heard, it's a great game. Plays just like what you'd expect an SF game to play, with some new gimmicks. I have some friends that follow up on the competitive progress of the game, but I can't really follow a game that I haven't played yet.

Well, it probably won't be as good as Third Strike. Which means it'll be back to the PS2 for Street Fighting, especially Street Fighting with Dudley.

You based this on...? Third Strike is a great game, but I wouldn't doubt Capcom can make a better SF game than 3S. Hopefully, one where 75% of the players don't play the same character; Street Fighter Third Strike? More like Chun-Li Fighter Third Strike! Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a good Chun mirror; no one appreciates 3 minutes of turtling like I do (no sarcasm), but I wouldn't mind a new game, considering we've been playing Third Strike for almost ten years.

I based this on that none of my group of friends play as Chun-Li, thus we actually have fun with the game. I know it's ten years old but it's still going to be incredibly hard to top by SF4. Which I constantly think is going to bomb now.

Dragon Punch - It's like a Donkey Punch, except you're spewing an ignited ball of Bacardi 151 into the air whilst executing said punch.
It's more for show really, but a neat effect none the less.

I am disgusted at the lack of Third Strike characters in this game. And no, I don't want to see Alex in this. He's always the go-to character from Third Strike used in vs. games. Give me Hugo, Q, Dudley, Twelve, etc. Capcom's neglect for Third Strike fans this go around is largely why I remain lukewarm about this game.

Third Strike has a lot of awkward characters, and many of the Third Strike exclusive characters were not very popular except for Alex and Dudley. Also, I think Capcom might also be trying to appeal to an American market, which basically consists of 20-something-year-olds who played SF2 when they were kids, and never even knew SF3 existed.

Sorry.. I said only Alex and Dudley.. Yun, Yang, and Makoto are also popular characters. But I wouldn't consider these characters awkward, and Yun and Alex have been in other games as you have said. I've been awake for 30 hours, and I wasn't thinking straight =\.
