I've lurked this site for a long time and felt like commenting now and again, but this is the douche cake that takes the bait.

"For the first time ever you'll be able to play as a band"

Fat girl in glasses "Ummm it's called Rock Band"

"Well we can't whore out Ghostbusters or Brutal Legend enough so lets can them"

Are you fucking dumb? I loved GBII on my 386 and would play anything even close to that and every sequel after: !!Especially with cast support!! if it felt even similar.

And Brutal Legend with total Guitar support could help shift more of those plasic peripherals you are so keen on making if you could control the entire game with it, and learn bigger speels the more proficient you get with it.

Mr. Kotick you are a fucking retard with blinders on hoping to lead the blind into the land of the deaf. Good luck with GH: Intergalatic Cemetary trangressional tour #685 with stops in Jersey, Compton and Rabblehurts 45.

"Kotick said that there's only been a "small single-digit number" of new, successful franchises in the last five or 10 years"

Off the top of my head:
Guitar Hero
Rock Band
Halo
Gears of War
Resistance
Fable
Bioshock
Mass Effect
Portal
God of War
Assassin's Creed
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Metroid Prime series
SSX series
Puzzle Quest
Elite Beat Agents (and whatever it's called in Japan)
Saint's Row
Trauma Center
Singstar
Dance Dance Revolution
Neverwinter Nights
World of Warcraft
Knights of the Old Republic
The Sims

He's right, there were less than 10 successful franchises in the last 10 years. Douchebag.

Hmm? I'll look them up. They seem interesting, but I've had my hands full. 1998 was a good year for video games.

I've already ranted on MTV Multiplayer about this, but additional rage outlets are nice. So basically, let me some up the douchebaggery of Mr. Kotick and the gang.
-Running the Call of Duty series into the ground(I'll believe in Treyarch if Cod:WaW is anything more than average).
-Claiming Activision started the music game genre(really, it was Konami, but everyone accepts that Harmonix really made it what it is today)
-Suggesting artists should pay Activision for the "honor" of being featured in a Guitar Hero game.
-Having the audacity to suggest subscriptions for User-created DLC for Guitar Hero.
-Splitting StarCraft 2 into 3 fucking games (a decision likely guided not by Blizzard, but by Activision and their fucking yearly exploiting principle)
-Dumping Ghostbusters and Brutal Legend because their not sequelspoitational enough for their liking.
-Possibly blocking the publishing prospects of Brutal Legend (a game with much more promise than the entirety of Activision's upcoming staple).
-Flat out saying he seeks to "exploit" great brands.

You see, one thing that Kotick, in adopting the old EA strategy, doesn't realize is that the only games that retain any sort of quality from the "yearly exploitation" practice are sports games, because what is a new sports game but an updated roster, slightly improved graphics, and perhaps a new feature or two. Though I could see how Guitar Hero may not be the most difficult game to develop on a yearly basis(given that each new one has only marginal improvements over the last)Call of Duty is not a series that will hold up so well over each consecutive year. And switching between the A Team (Infinity Ward) and the B team (Treyarch) each installment obviously presents dips in quality (which, as long as a brand name is on the product, Activision doesn't seem to care about). Also the whole "release on everything under the sun" principle makes games suffer in quality as well. Notice, Treyarch made CoD 3 for 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, and PC, spreading resources thinly over more platforms than necessary, causing all to suffer, instead of focusing on the platforms that matter (360, PS3, and PC), resulting in a mediocre, by the books WWII shooter(and we really wanted another of those). Infinity Ward, on the other hand, focused on the only on the platforms that could support a world class shooter (360, PS3, and PC), took a risk by going outside the box that the series was bound to (WWII), and ended up making what was arguably the best game of last year(I say arguably because, though I love CoD 4, I think Portal was the best game of 2007). And let's face it, I don't recall EA shoving The Medal of Honor series down our throat on a yearly basis.

Anyway, I know this was long, but ActiBlizz is really pissing me the fuck off with their decisions and practices, and I wish horrible, horrible things upon Robert Kotick.

Huh, could somebody clear things up for me about that Ken Levine comment? What does Kotick has to do with Levine, since the first is at Activision while the other works for Take-Two (or has Levine jumped to another ship and I don't remember it?)?

The most recent major franchise they've done this with was Guitar Hero. They screwed up and let the actually developers get away and thus have fragmented the market and let a better franchise become established while simply spamming poorer immitations. This is only successful in the current dollars, but not the long term strategy. I don't think their are that many annual franchises out there that can be exploited this way. Sorry Bobby. EA has most of them.

You know they had something to do with SC2 becoming a trilogy. My first thought when I heard that was "this reeks of activision".

I remember seeing an interview on Guitar Hero 4, and the developer was asked: "So, you're basically copying Rock Band?" He completely ignored it.

Can't help but wondering if Activision had a part in Blizzard deciding to split SC2 into a trilogy.

Never really heard of this guy, but already I don't like him.

Developers need to be applauded for trying something new and coming up with new and original games. Historically, there is an inverse relationship with my interest level of any game IP with each sequel it receives that remains the same at the core.

We don't need 50 guitar heroes. Let's see some innovation, please.

Hell, he's onto something here. I don't buy a game unless I think it will have 10 sequels to completely milk me for minor updates and story tweaks.

Kottick is going to run Activision into the ground. Bobby, we know you want to exploit gamers...and you probably can do it for years (look how long EA did it!)...but you don't TELL the gamers you're exploiting them...that's just bad business...

Activision has really become the new EA. And EA has become the old Activision with new franchises like Skate and Dead Space. The gaming community has transfered their anger to Activision. What is sad though, is that EA just had to lay off a huge amount of workers. So just when they become "good" again, they are punished for it. It's just like this:

I don't think it's so much Activision's strategy that is pissing people off - we've known for quite some time that they and EA have traded places. It's the fact that this douchebag is so arrogantly open about it. He knows he can say what he wants and still go to sleep on a pile of money.
