How to design a classic adventure game
Tim Schafer is a man who needs no introduction. So, anyway, in celebration of adventure classic Grim Fandango's tenth birthday, he's magnanimously released the game's puzzle design document to the teeming TL;DR masses online. Not only is it a fascinating and often amusing read (be wary of nonlinearity's "repulsive, yet fascinating head"), but it's full of valuable guidance for those fledgling adventure designers still struggling to solve the classic "talking walrus in a trench coat" dilemma. We struggled with that one for weeks.
And in case you're one of the sad types currently shrugging their shoulders and asking, "Grim Fanwhatnow?," know that it's one awesome adventure pie rhinoceros the meaning of life neo-classical breakfast cereal did I turn the stove off this morning blathering typhoon wrench flinging submarine spectacular.

I was going to ask WTF is up with the text, and then I saw "Kietzmann."

I'm going to get beat up and my lunch money stolen for this, but Full Throttle was better!

Dracula Jones @ Nov 6th 2008 6:21PM
There was a distinct lack of Glottis in Full Throttle. Therefore it was an inferior experience.

i freaking loved this game. But i got right to the end of it and the whole thing crashed on me and corrupted my savegame...which incidently was my only save game.
I couldn't bring myself to go back and play through it all to the end!

I never finished the game before (my PC back them couldn't really do it justice). However, last night I installed the final piece of the "connecting the PC to the 'uge TV in the living room" puzzle. My wife and I will be Grim Fandanging all weekend!
If it works with Vista.
If I can find the CD.
Crap.

How about making Lucasarts get with the times and use direct download or something to re-release some old games like Grim Fandango. It's the only Lucasarts adventure I missed. :( I'm so ashamed.
Alcevious @ Nov 6th 2008 8:15PM
Grim Fandango is the best game ever made. Period.
Desi_D @ Nov 6th 2008 10:07PM
I agree whole heartedly!

Too bad this doesn't run on Vista. I have the original at home and have been wanting to play it again for ages. I also couldn't get this game to run under WinXP, by te way.
scooterbaga @ Nov 7th 2008 4:54AM
Why isn't this game on XBLA yet!?
M0les @ Nov 7th 2008 7:36AM
Best. Game. Evar.

I was trying to find a new band name. Now I've found it: Deleterious Consternation. It hit me like a dream! Thanks Joystiq!
