If the final list contains Herzog Zwei, it's on the Must Buy list. Otherwise, I'll wait for it in the 9.99 bin.

I've held out on buying a lot of the old compilations on the various systems, and this is why. Day 1 purchase for me.

Wow, Day 1, and I was worried about what early 2009 was gonna have after the giant rush of titles pre-holiday season.

I'm really curious how achievements are gonna work...(like a few other people mentioned)....

1000/40 = 25gs per title...thats kinda weak, so hopefully they do something different and give each title its due!

**time for the repackage breakdown**

I'm going to start chopping off my fingers and toes with a butter knife if I have to play these games again.

I have Sonic 2 in three compilations, emulation, virtual consolation and constipation.

F sake, Sega made a sh!t load more games than this, but time and again they release the samn damn compilation of games.

And is this Sega's only recourse to the abysmal recent Sonic games? Silver didn't work out?

The charm died with Sonic Jam on the Saturn. At least they TRIED something new with th 3D exploration menu.

Is it really too much to ask for Wonderboy games, or Ranger X, or even ToeJam and Earl?

Wow that would cost like $900 on the Virtual Console. I'll have to get this!!!! Awesome selection, pretty much every good Genesis game.

Cool it even includes Fatal Labyrinth? I didn't think that was a terribly popular game, though it was one of my favorite Genesis games.

I rarely buy games brand new at full MSRP, but if any disk deserves it this is THE ONE!

I never owned a Genesis so this is a great compilation for me, and in 720P too! woohoooooo

Some solid stuff here. Problem is, Sega wasn't the only pulisher that threw out some great stuff. As a shooter fan, a real compilation would have to include
Contra Hard Corps
Musha
Ranger X
Rocket Knight Adventures
Subterrania
Thunderforce 3 and 4
Wings of Wor
Hellfire
Forgotten Worlds

According to Kotaku it has Sega Master System games? Sega says they have unlockable games yet to be revealed. You'll notice they say 4 Phantasy Star titles. Yet show only the 3 Genesis Phantasy Stars. It's a safe bet that one of the hidden games is Phantasy Star I for the Sega Master System. If that's the case. I'm so getting this! A long shot would be that it's the ultra rare Phantasy Star 1 for the Mega-Drive.

Samfish, no, Zertoss, yes. A thousand times over. I don't know how much time I've sunk into S3K, but I think I'd rather not know. Vectorman games only add to the draw. 30 bucks for those games alone sold me, but all the rest as an added bonus? I'll take one, please.

Will you be able to save mid-game? Is that the way these compilations normally work on later systems? I was never able to finish kid chameleon before dying.

"The games in the collection have been reproduced with the utmost detail and accuracy to the original games. In addition, Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection can output the games in 720p with higher resolution graphics for HD televisions, bringing a new visual richness to playing these classic titles."

Considering how long it's taking to do SSFIITHDR, I'm guessing these SEGA games are going to have just been run through some filter like hq2x or something, then retouched by hand a bit. Which would be very disappointing. :( Though I'm sure a lot of people would love it. *shrug*

Awesome compilation that's well worth the money. However, I would've liked to have seen Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer, Landstalker, and Cyborg Justice.

I'd be down if the visuals were redrawn, but they're not. It's just interpolation. Which is lame. I've been using emulators that could output at 720p with upscaling effects since 2000.

thing is, i have the majority of these already... however, achievements? one disk instead of 30 something cartridges? im in. now if only they will fix that crappy d-pad on the bottom of my 360 controller. or at least release some 10 dollar old school controller and pay nintendo for it.

I'm so torn.

Normally I buy every dual-format release for 360, because I made the decision long ago that it was going to be my primary system. However, I might be forced to get this for PS3 because the 360 has such a terrible, useless, inconveniently placed d-pad that it makes retro gaming on the 360 a chore. Are there any 3rd-party controllers I can buy that have a more functional d-pad?

isn't this pretty much the same collection that Sega released for PS2/PSP/GCN/Xbox a while back? i picked this up for my PSP for $15 and it's a great collection to have on the go. it'd be nice to see them running in 720p tough.

Lots of goodies here, but Phantasy Star IV in 720p is will be a joy. Gonna be a lot of old-time SNES RPG players who never gave it a shot in for a huge treat.

Definitely a collection worth getting. But as so many folks here have pointed out, it could have easily been a lot better. The fact is, most of those carts were 6-8 meg at largest and they're only putting around 40 of them (around 240 MB) onto a 40 GB Blu-ray. Yeah, it could easily be better, all right.

Here is my list of missing Genesis games that REALLY should be on here (come ON, somebody at Sega listen for a change and add these before the compilation releases!!!).

1) Landstalker
2) Revenge of Shinobi (THE ORIGINAL; do what you have to do to get past the licensing issues, Sega!!!).
3) Shadow Dancer
4) M.U.S.H.A.
5) Gaiares
6) ThunderForce II
7) ThunderForce III
8) ThunderForce IV (Lightning Force as it was called here in the States).
9) Herzog Zwei
10) Phantasy Star from the Sega Master System as an Easter Egg at least.

While we're on the subject of compilations, when if ever is Sega going to wake up and realize there is a HUGE demand for Saturn and Dreamcast collections? For those of you who missed out on the Saturn, it had a ton of really amazing games, and deserves a better fate than to be swept under the rug and forgotten because it failed to compete with the original PlayStation. Just think of the titles like Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force III (which the U.S. only got to see one-third of) that are going for over $100 a pop on eBay now; I'd say there's still some demand there.

And if Sega ever REALLY wised up and picked up the rights to do a complete GameArts/Working Designs compilation (I'm talking Lunar, Lunar 2, Magic Knight Rayearth, Iron Storm, Dragon Force, Alundra, Vay, Arc the Lad Collection, RayStorm, RayCrisis, ThunderForce V, uh, need I go on?), I guarantee I would be there for my reserved copy on day one. Whether Sega or even Sony want to admit it or not, those titles helped greatly in their success in the mid-to-late '90s, and they are really missed by those who experienced them.

Well, that's my rant. What do the rest of you think? Perhaps a petition to Sega to let them know what we want? Because I doubt any single person here on this forum is going to make a difference alone.
