Servers down for LittleBigPlanet-wide maintenance
You read that right: LittleBigPlanet is offline once again, but it sounds like this could be the beginning of the end of troubles. According to the semi-official ThreeSpeech blog, SCEE says "the LittleBigPlanet online servers will be down for essential maintenance on Thursday November 6th between 8am and 5pm GMT."
But wait, little sackboy or girl, dry those tears. Not only can you still play the game offline, but Sony says they'll "have some shiny new servers ready for when [they] get back." In LBP speak, that means that sleepytime technicians are out there repairing the ribbon of dreams that connects Earth to the LittleBigPlanet. Here's hoping they get it right this time.

MM you guys gotta get it together this is the third time the servers have went down and the game has only been out barely 2 weeks? Comon man that's unacceptable..
Tiptup300 @ Nov 6th 2008 11:43AM
I pay too much for this shit. Oh wait, this isn't xbox live.
Me @ Nov 6th 2008 12:57PM
No, it isn't Xbox LIVE. If it was Xbox LIVE it would be working.
I have to start wondering if the PS3 is cursed, or what.
Chase @ Nov 6th 2008 5:46PM
Broken servers have harmed two fun releases (SOCOM: Confrontation and LittleBigPlanet). If I had recently bought a PS3 and only had Confrontation or LBP, I would think about returning said PS3.
Kizzle @ Nov 6th 2008 10:42AM
"but it sounds like this could be the beginning of the end of troubles"
Or the beginning of a lot of unplanned outages.
Vidikron @ Nov 6th 2008 10:52AM
Why would it be that?
Kizzle @ Nov 6th 2008 11:46AM
"Why would it be that?"
Why wouldn't it be? It's still early on, it's impossible to tell one way or the other. However, it's certainly a possiblity - there have been fixes/updates to supposedly improve Live's service that resulted in more outages until the fix was fixed. You can't convince me that Sony runs a smoother operation than MS when it comes to online service.
aliss77777 @ Nov 6th 2008 10:46AM
yeah i tried to do 4 player online coop last night and the lag made it unplayable. put the bad baby to bed already!!!!
Trev @ Nov 6th 2008 10:52AM
Sucks a little for people that want to play online, but I'm too caught up with finding the secrets in levels to be bothered by it. There are only a few that have 3 or 4 player puzzles, and I'm sure by the time a friend and I have cleared all the 2 player sections the servers will be up and running.
Acing Boom Town is a bitch, by the way.
Puli @ Nov 6th 2008 10:57AM
Just an fyi, two people with 4 controllers can do all the 3-4 player co-op sections. None of them require any real control, unlike some of the 2 player ones.
j.howlett @ Nov 6th 2008 10:59AM
i haven't aced a canyon level yet but i think i almost have boom town figured out
Superstar90 @ Nov 6th 2008 10:56AM

They went down between 2 and 3 AM EST.
D dogg @ Nov 6th 2008 11:22AM
Another reason why I have NO ISSUE with paying for the LIVE service on Xbox 360.
ExMcCloud @ Nov 6th 2008 11:53AM
I might have to second that...After we talk about the time it was lagging terribly for a month wen Halo launched but it was never totally down.....But yea Sony cannot allow this madness the servers should be more than solidified by now...MM is losing cool points right now.....Comon guys I kno u can do it...Fix your damn SERVERS
Mr Khan @ Nov 6th 2008 12:11PM
rationalization at its finest
Is it better because you pay for it? You can't compare their experience in the field pound-for-pound, as Microsoft has some 6 years of experience in this under their belt, though i don't know if LIVE encountered hiccups around its 2 year birthday, or attempted anything this ambitious so early in
The point being, with the respective online services where they are (one that is now quite mature, one that is still comparatively young, and one that clearly couldn't care less about the service provided) you can't definitively say "It is better because you pay for it"
ExMcCloud @ Nov 6th 2008 12:19PM
Khan this is not Sony's first attempt at online...They had been doing it BUT never took it serious until Xbox live was one of MS's key things to make better....
ELUNO @ Nov 6th 2008 12:23PM
It's not better because we pay for it. We pay for it because it's better.
ExMcCloud @ Nov 6th 2008 12:27PM
Comon Vid if this was Halo or.....Wait what game has SOny launch that hasn't had Online issues.....Ummm...Warhawk.....Okay if this was Halo or Warhawk people would be causing a riot taking dumps all over it...Whether they fix it or not I didnt pay 60 bux to not have my game ready when I bout it for my 600 dollar system(60 GB) get it together I shouldnt even have to say this....Its ridiculous....But alas LBP gets the all mighty pardon because people (including myself) love it...Time to download my LAUCH SUIT(Which wasn't available at launch may I add).....*Grumbles*
ExMcCloud @ Nov 6th 2008 12:28PM
Oops wrong post lolz...
D dogg @ Nov 6th 2008 1:16PM
@ Mr. Khan
You are very incorrect about many things. I think the 2 people who commented afterwards hit the nail on the head. I've heard many people say before hand that paying to play online is ridiculous and then after paying and playing on the LIVE network taking it back.
ELUNO said it so well that there's no need to repeat it.
And my statement wasn't rationalization or fanboy'ism, it was a true statement. No matter what game I'm playing, I can have a constant communication connection to my friends.
Whether I'm playing a game or watching a video, have the xbox on or off, friends can send me a message.
LIVE is kicking all other gaming networks asses left and right and you bet your ass it's a HUGE selling point for me. You're trying to brush off a statement made by a guy who in his 30's now was a HUGE Quake, Quake 2, CounterStrike, StarCraft, EQ player... so please don't try to downplay the importance of a networked gaming environment or tell me I can't compare one console to another... because I can and it's VERY relevant.
j.howlett @ Nov 6th 2008 2:04PM
when live first launched on the original xbox my roommates and i got it. it was okay but not worth it just to play online. i was playing things on PC and ps2 for free. you can send a message to people if they're on or of psn. it had up to a 6 person chat scince i got it, though i find it impractical with friends when i have a phone and no desire to talk to srangers. if all the extra stuff like cross game chat is so worth it i say charge for that and make basic online play part of silver. you can pay for gold to get your netflix and other extraneous features
sk8monroe81 @ Nov 6th 2008 3:32PM
exactly. $ 3 per month or $ 38 per year is well worth it in the long run.
im not expecting much gears 2 live lag.
try releasing a game of that magnitude on the ps3.
the PSN would be down.
( sorry fanboys, resistance 2 is not as big as gears 1, just compare the sales of the first installments,, but ill still play both games.)
Ken Edwards @ Nov 6th 2008 11:23AM
I would also like to add that I am really fed up with this LittleBigWasteOfTime and am about ready to sell the bleeping game. I am reaching the limits of the level creator and its getting a little annoying with the "features" the game has (glitches, of course). If they honestly have to take the servers down once a week for maintenance, people will just leave, myself included.
It doesn't matter if your concept and game is the best thing since sliced bread, or not.
j.howlett @ Nov 6th 2008 11:24AM
do it. do it.
squirtforce @ Nov 6th 2008 11:33AM
I know what you mean. The last week or two has been really annoying on the PSN. A few friends and myself were trying to get into a cooperative game of resistance 2 last night and got nothing but errors and dropped games and ended up giving up after 30 minutes. It was really annoying, and this is after also dealing with all the weird shit with LPB, a basically unplayable SOCOM, and even some strange stuff with Motorstorm's online the first day or two it was out. Sony really needs to pull it together...
Trev @ Nov 6th 2008 11:42AM
If you haven't made something more impressive than the functioning Gradius or Tetris games, I doubt anyone will care when you leave.
Brett from Atlanta @ Nov 6th 2008 11:45AM
Are you dense? Maintenance is obviously code for fixing this huge problem we have. No one takes servers down for that long for maintenance. Yes, the servers have been pulled for a few hours before, but almost a full day means something big is going on. By the way, sony has put so much time and attention and effort into LBP, do you really think they aren't going to fix this problem asap? I'm confident our woes will be over when the servers go back up.
ExMcCloud @ Nov 6th 2008 11:58AM
@Brett
I would agree with you if they didn't take the servers down last week for 24hrs....Sigh...U have to admit that this is getting ridiculous....Theres NO REASON that they should have to take the severs down 3 times in 2 weeks period...The game just released....They are crippling it and showing the negatives of PSN right now....I think PSN is a good service (especially for a free one) but it has some glaring holes....And if SOny is letting MM take care of its own servers thats a big mistake because obviously they can't handle the job period...
And Squirtforce I apologize for your bad R2 experience...lolz...But anyone who played the Beta can tell u about the dropped games and such during co-op
Ken Edwards @ Nov 6th 2008 12:03PM
I have worked my entire life to be dense. Thanks for asking.
squirtforce @ Nov 6th 2008 12:09PM
@ExMcCloud
I was on the beta too, as well as the LPB and SOCOM betas, and I do agree that they had the exact same problems for the most part. I didn't want to have to say it, but what was the point of the beta then if the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS happened during release?!
Vidikron @ Nov 6th 2008 12:17PM
It's been a rough start for LBP's online portion, but they're adding more servers. Get over it. I mean, do you want them to add them or not? If yes, they I guess you'll have tolove with the fact that they are going to be down while more people are at work.
Vidikron @ Nov 6th 2008 12:18PM
Oops... that should "to live", not "to love". No one loves outages.

All I'm saying is it seems a bit unfair to complain about the lag and such and then complain when they are taking the servers down to add the requested capacity. Yes, it's annoying, but it needs to be done. At least they're doing it at a time when most people won't see it.
D_Average @ Nov 6th 2008 1:24PM
I got so fed up last night I actually went outside to shoot some hoops. What a waste.
KingOfGods @ Nov 6th 2008 11:37AM
I hope they finally fix it. I was trying to play online last night but every room I joined was full of lag and unplayable...that's all I heard people complain about yesterday.
Cellien @ Nov 6th 2008 11:40AM
Can you download the space suit yet? Since it released, I've been checking the store and stuff daily, but finally gave up a few days ago.
Brett from Atlanta @ Nov 6th 2008 11:46AM
I think it might be out with todays psn update
Vidikron @ Nov 6th 2008 11:58AM
Yes, the last I heard the spacesuit and pumpkin suit were due out today. They were released last week in Japan's PSN store. Sadly, they didn't work with the US game... I tried :)
Kyle @ Nov 6th 2008 12:11PM
Hurrah! It's 5:11. That means I should be able to get some in before I head to work.

DarkNessBear @ Nov 6th 2008 10:48PM
No idea why people complain about them taking it down for 8 hours... Xbox live goes down frequently and so does MMORPG's especially in their first month and you PAY for those things...
They've been doing a great job. And it's the best game I have ever played.
JP @ Nov 6th 2008 12:26PM
omg

As long as they fix it I'll be happy. And they really need to fix the Play/Create/Share scores as well, mines been sitting at zero for more than a week now.
TheNewmanDynasty @ Nov 6th 2008 1:06PM
What a failure of a game....
TheNewmanDynasty @ Nov 6th 2008 1:07PM
And if it was the 360 you sony fanboys would be screaming bloody murder.
That's why I pay a measly pathetic 50 dollars for Live. Because it WORKS plain and simple.
Vidikron @ Nov 6th 2008 1:13PM
I was just wondering when you would grace us with your brilliance.
