Have you cured cancer lately? Maybe not, because you're too busy playing the excellent games on PS3 right now. But, why not take some time this weekend to launch Life With PlayStation and fold some proteins. (Join us at Group #57793.) Now is the best time to jump in the cancer-saving fun, especially because of a new award donned to the service.
The Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization awarded Sony Computer Entertainment the "Good Design Gold Award 2008" for the support of the Folding@home project on PS3. "Analysis of proteins for the purpose of shedding light on diseases is just one example of solution design for social issues, a stance that indicates the direction that design should take in the future. Motivating the people who will be involved in these studies will be the key to success, but the program functions well as an idea for making participation in this project visible on a global scale."
So yeah, let's celebrate and fold at home this weekend!

except life with playstation's design of folding sucks now. It's not very intuitive for newcomers to switch between life and folding.

I've had no problems with it, but it's true that the functionality and what buttons to use could be a bit more clear for casual users. One thing to keep in mind is that folding is running regardless of whether you're in the News or Folding sections. It's always running in the background, you just don't get to watch it if you're in the News section.

It does come as a XMB icon in the fw update but to launch it you have to download it seperately. Kinda like the different areas of Home ;-)

I just never find a compelling reason to turn the PS3 on, especially because it heats the room up to sauna-like temperatures.

while i take offense to the first part of that comment, i can 100% relate to the second part. my room is an extremely small box, maybe 10 feet long by 12 feet wide...room can get really hot if i dont turn on a fan

since folding at home made my PS3 almost crack in half, making some noises and stuf, I'd never came back there...

My PS3 is kinda noisy, so I don't tend to leave it folding, being off now and then lets it cool down between marathon gaming sessions too.
