Ghostbusters officially going to Atari
When there's something strange in your neighborhood, your choice for who to call is clear. But the question after the Activision/Blizzard merger was where, exactly, you'd be able to find the Ghostbusters. Now, we finally have an answer: As was rumored by both Variety and Dan Aykroyd, Atari is ready to believe in the Ghostbusters (and, you know, publish their video game).
It's great news, but we're still left with the one big question on all thinking people's minds: As the other orphans are picked up, who will give Brütal Legend shelter from the storm? Is it you?

Mother-puss-bucket!
Oh well at least it is coming out of the limbo.
Should be a fun one when it comes out.
Markez @ Nov 7th 2008 12:37PM
Listen!
Markez @ Nov 7th 2008 12:37PM
You smell something?
John Z @ Nov 7th 2008 8:39AM
Tell 'em about the Twinkie.
PhydeWice @ Nov 7th 2008 11:39PM
Well, let's say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning's reading, it would be a Twinkie thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds.

Yay Joystiq, anti smoking all the way!
samfish @ Nov 7th 2008 8:50AM
You know, it just occurred to me that we really haven't had a successful test of this equipment.
I blame myself.
So do I.
Well, no sense in worrying about it now.
Why worry? Each one of us is carrying an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back.

Im so glad I got to watch this again with the better half over the weekend. :)
reyes @ Nov 7th 2008 8:52AM
Maybe I'm just being thick... but are you guys serious about wanting Brutal Legend? It seems like it's riddled with SUCK.
dark_inchworm @ Nov 7th 2008 9:23AM
Judging by your evaluation of it thus far, yeah, you're pretty fucking thick.
Jakka @ Nov 7th 2008 9:27AM
One Question:
Have you played Psychonauts and/or know who Tim Schafer is? If the answer is no, then we may not lynch you!
reyes @ Nov 7th 2008 9:29AM
Can you please explain to me why it's more than a shitty game trying to capitalize on this "video game rock revolution" from the GH/RB franchises?
"We need a name for this ripoff..."
"How about Brutal Legend?"
"Not good enough, throw in an umlaut to make it more ROCK N' ROLL!"
Noshino @ Nov 7th 2008 9:39AM
Yah Jakka, it seems the kid doesn't know anything about Tim Schafer.
reyes, Tim Schafer can make any theme feel fresh and original, just go and play Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, and/or Psychonauts and you'll see why he is quite often praised.
reyes @ Nov 7th 2008 9:42AM
I redact my previous comments. I was somehow oblivious to the fact that this is a Tim Schafer game. I'm more of an RPG than adventure fan, but my girlfriend still has fun playing Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle to this day. We've never tried Psychonauts or Grimm Fandango, but I guess we should give them a play.
Move along... nothing else to flame here...
dark_inchworm @ Nov 7th 2008 9:53AM
A true internet champion admits his mistakes.
You win 27 acres of Internet Land.
Haggard @ Nov 7th 2008 10:09AM
While i'm not going to call you on it now since you've admitted your mistake, how was an action/adventure title by a man considered to be the most creative game designer ever a rip-off of guitar hero?
Haggard @ Nov 7th 2008 10:10AM
I realise that I went ahead and 'called you on it' anyway. Sorry. :(
Courtney @ Nov 7th 2008 11:21AM
Holy crap, a disagreement over the quality of a game resulted in discussion and the eventual change of opinion of the original poster.
Head for the hills ma! The end of the world's a comin'!
And +1 to reyes for listening.
bearxor @ Nov 7th 2008 11:45AM
I think the internet is broken and probably needs to be taken in for a check-up. There's no other way something like this could have happened.
xGeneral DEATHx (Mr ESC Welcome Back Party Ultimate Mega Action Force) @ Nov 7th 2008 11:45AM
Seriously...yesterday at work this guy that pisses and moans about nothing all the time told me that I was right, he was wrong, and that he was sorry. I really didn't expect to wake up at all this morning. I suppose the day's young yet and the world could still end...
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 7th 2008 9:24AM
the powers that be at Sony shoulda have snatched this up........
shit they SHOULD have NEVER sold the rights to the franchise in the first place.........fuckin idiots.........
glad the game will have a released date sooon(hopefully) tho......

I thought Gozer was a man.
It's whatever it wants to be.
Well, whatever it is, it's gotta get by us.
Right, Go get her, Ray!

JoeTheBlow @ Nov 7th 2008 10:24AM
Yes but WHEN??!?!
It better not be "next year" as in next christmas, it'd be a fine March-May title.
Joe @ Nov 7th 2008 10:32AM
This is old news you guys at joystiq even posted on this a few weeks back. You guys said Atari got this game and Riddick.
I still hope Atari will pick up Brutal Legend though.
I also think you have to say it is a Jack Black game so you get his fans to buy the game and Schafer's too.
Shmil @ Nov 7th 2008 12:10PM
back then it was just a rumor, now it is confirmed news
Sam @ Nov 7th 2008 10:37AM
They better do a good job on this one. It would be sacrilege to murder this classic film ip in the normal standard of game film tie-in crap. At least you can be certain that they won't have to fit in with film release dates, so if it's rubbish the devs will have no excuse.

John Z @ Nov 7th 2008 10:40AM
I know I just contributed to the problem, but it's a testament to how much this game is anticipated, and how much hope the community has for it, that the comments for pretty much every post regarding the Ghostbusters game instantly devolves into people quoting the movie-- sometimes completely out of context-- and getting upvoted for it.
I also find it highly amusing that we only quoted the first movie.
xGeneral DEATHx (Mr ESC Welcome Back Party Ultimate Mega Action Force) @ Nov 7th 2008 11:20AM
Viggy viggy viggy, you have been a bad monkey!

Wonder what?

The real question is:
"Are you the keymaster?"
Shmil @ Nov 7th 2008 12:11PM
I'm the gatekeeper are you the keymaster?
Obie @ Nov 7th 2008 12:15PM
No but let me tell ya about Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!
hvnlysoldr @ Nov 7th 2008 12:44PM
Have you played your Atari today?
Mamba @ Nov 7th 2008 1:27PM
oh no.. not atari
meatee @ Nov 7th 2008 6:14PM
Just because Atari is publishing doesn't mean anything bad is going to happen to the actual game. No matter what logo is slapped on the cover art, the game isn't going to change.
