The video we're referring to isn't embeddable, so we're afraid this is one of those old-fashioned, "go check out this thing on the internet" posts. The buxom thing in question is a deliciously awkward interview with official Lara Croft impersonator, Alison Carroll. Shortly after confirming that Lara Croft is indeed an archaeologist, the lithe leading lady flounders and grows visibly annoyed upon being asked, "When did they find the Tomb of Tutankhamun?"
Of course, rather than humor the interviewer (1922, by the way) and risk making a fictional video game character look bad, Ms. Carroll summons her caretaker to shut down the pesky journalist. Take that, question man!

That's a bit cheap - she's an actress portraying a character, not the character. It's pretty clear she couldn't shoot a Velociraptor in the head whilst doing a cartwheel either but nobody gave her any flak for that.

True, but actors actually have to learn about their parts before they play them. I don't think it's much to ask her to learn about the part she's playing as well to get more in character. *Shrug* Either way, it was kind of a cheap shot, but he also wasn't asking very difficult questions. Not far off from talk show hosts asking people on the street simple questions about the country they live in or some such thing.

I agree with Iain. You can't expect her to actually BE an archaeologist--and while that question may not be difficult for a student of history, she has the decided advantage of being hotter than most of them.
If they happened to find a knowledgeable, hot, athletic archaeologist, she actually would be Lara Croft--and then she wouldn't be giving interviews with assholes; she'd be off unearthing ruins and going on adventures and shit.

Nobody was expecting her to BE anything - it was a silly trivia game for shits and giggles - one of the questions was about Indiana Jones. Clearly it wasn't to be taken seriously, but the model didn't wanna look stupid, so in comes the handler. This went from silly interview to trainwreck over nothing.

yea, I agree with Mike. I think the train wreak could have been avoided or at least softened up a bit.

Quit being such a bunch of internet white knights. Of course he knew she wasn't a real archaeologist. He was just giving her a hard time to see if he could get some funny footage, much like they do on those Late Show side-of-the-street silly question interviews.

In your mind, do you regard the fact that you'd "hit it" as a compliment to the woman?

what an ass ... tutankaman? temple in cambodia?
You got Lara Croft next to you in a bikini and that's the shit you pull?
My question would have been more along the lines of ' "Hey Lara, you want to get out of here and grab a deli sandwich?"
seriously though ... that reporter was just being an ass ...

anyone else try the demo?
I'm kind of digging the the demo so far ... always liked tomb raider so maybe I will pick this one up. Tough choice because I really want Left 4 dead & mirrors edge more than tomb raider.

I had an Egyptian civilization class last semester and I didn't even know that answer. Maybe my professor just sucked or something.

Did any of you know those answers? I didn't. Even if they gave her a crash course on archaeology, I'm not sure I would expect her to answer those history based questions (as you can imagine, there's a lot of history to cover). Reasonable questions would be what tools does Lara use, how did she learn to kick tigers in the face so well, etc. It was pretty unfair of the interviewer, and the questions were obviously asked to see what kind of stupid response she would give ("for the fun of it"). It wouldn't be very fun if she actually answered 1922 would it?

But I think we can all agree that it was fun to watch the awkward situation that ensued. So really, a big success. :D

The only thing "fun" for me was the opening camera shot going up her legs and an extreme close-up of her tookis. That's my idea of a success!

I've never heard anyone quiz Harrison Ford about his archeological knowledge. That interviewer was just being an ass.
The Lara girl was polite and cordial. I would have told the guy to f--- off.

I was talking about hotness :P And also, I don't expect an actor/actress to be the character they play in real life. Like some of you said, the interviewer was a tool. Camera man zooming in on boobs lol

Hah, imagine if McCain stepped in during a Palin interview:
Katie Couric: Sarah Palin is running for Vice Pres..ident
Sarah Palin: She IS running for Vice President, yes :)
KC: So we've made a little Vice Presi.. Vice President quiz.
SP: Oh no! That's not good, I haven't done my course yet so I'm gonna be rubbish :(
KC: ...It's not that difficult.
SP: Oh, it might be :D :(
KC: Ehh... What is your stance on the "Bush Doctrine"?
SP: :D :( I don't know whether these questions... this is going to make Sarah Palin look really... (Looks at McCain off camera)
John McCain: I'm sorry, what was the question?
KC: Wha-what is your stance on the "Bush Doctrine"?
JM: :\ *shakes head* Oh.. I
SP: Do'ya-know-what, it's gonna make Sarah Palin look bad. So I can't... It's not allowed.
JM: She can't, I don't think she'll be able to answer these questions. I don't think she'll KNOW them so...
KC: Ok, ok, ok! The other ones are REALLY easy.
...
JM: What are the other two questions?
KC: Um, "You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that"
JM: No idea :/
SP: Sorry... :/
KC: Okay... "Could you name one specific thing you would do as Vice President?"
JM: Again, no idea...
KC: But that's a joke, I mean, you could say make a sandwich or something.
JM: But she doesn't know the answers anyway to the first two so...

Lara Croft is NOT an (and yes, I know its just a video game character) archaeologist. She is a grave robber. Archaeologists do not take 'treasures' from dig sites. Anyone caught removing artifacts illegaly would be subject to prison time. Just sayin'.
Besides, any video game featuring a true to life archaeologist would be boring as hell.

The questions were meant to be for fun, but then when it became extremely clear that they would not be fun, the reporter should have just stopped. She was obviously trying to do her job- "not make Lara look bad," because, if my memory of previous Lara-actress-posts serves, the Lara model isn't just a model, she's an impersonator who takes courses in all kinds of crazy stuff, like firearms, hand to hand combat, etc. The impersonator tried to politely decline these questions multiple times, and the reporter should have stopped before being forced to turn the cameras off.

Though she did say as well that she "hasn't taken the course yet" which leads me to believe she WILL be learning about archeology. which is why I stated above what I stated (which everyone here loved so much as I can see). I'm not supporting the reporter or whatever. I was actually focusing more on the aspect of her seeming to want to learn about it.

Yeah, I'm sure an intro archeology course is a part of the job. If he'd just said, "Alrighty then, we'll get back to you after you've done that" all would have been well.

I have no respect for journalists who can't even respect their interviewees. Trying to make your guest look stupid only reflects badly on you.
She should have asked him if he knew that she wasn't actually Lara Croft and they she was just playing her, and if he even knew the difference. Maybe then the interview wouldn't have been so 'fun'.

You guys slay me. First, if this were an American there would be nothing but "OMG Americans are so STOOPID!" comments.
And second, of course it's not professional for a journalist to decide to do their best to make someone look foolish. Funny that nobody cared when Katie Couric did this with Sarah Palin - not actually asking important questions, but asking the same question over and over and over and over and then splicing the interview to look like it was never answered. Oh, and then asking fawning, slobbering questions of Obama & Biden like "Why is your campaign so popular"?
If you are the future of America, America is doomed.
