I have it. The hardcover book is French and the softcover which is in English was attached to the back. It's a very stupid thing to do. Either make both hard cover or give us the English book in Hardcover and the French book in softcover. The majority of the people would want the Hardcover English book not French.
I hope they rectify this by sending me a Hardcover english copy of the book. That's what I paid the extra cash for.

This crap.. to the guy that said no big deal.. how would you like it if the US Release included only a Spanish Hardcover?

I actually wouldn't care at all considering I live in Canada and picked up my copy last night with the softcover English version. It was probably a topic of conversation for 1-2 minutes between my friends and I before we just started playing the game. I'm not going to say I wouldn't mind a free download or something as compensation, but I don't think it's a huge issue.

As a side note: I got my LE copy today at EB Games in Truro, NS. It was DOUBLE shrink wrapped. The first layer peeled away revealed a soft-cover English art book. Inside the actual game box after the 2nd layer of shrink wrap, there was a French hard cover art book.

I'm a Canadian. The majority of Canadians speak English, and just English. As for the minority of French-Canadians, they are bilingual and don't need the game materials in French. In fact, most of the French-Canadians I know prefer their media in English if that's the original language! (It's like how hardcore Anime fans prefer their anime in Japanese with English subtitles, instead of English dubs. They feel the original voice actors are usually better skilled, and better matches the director's original vision.) The only reason for any French in game packaging and books is Quebec's outdated French-protectionism laws.

The issue aside I think you are making some broad assumptions to say the majority of French Canadians are bi-lingual and don't need game materials in French. Outside of Montreal there are many people that only speak French that do need it.

To Evan:
I agree with you, I'm french and I watch all my movies in English and play all my games in English. I can't stand the translated versions. GoW1 sounds horrible in french! lol!

To Arggggg:
Get the f*ck out of here. I hate pricks like you!
So we aren't allowed language laws to protect ourselves in a continent dominated by the English language? F*ck you!
Man... I had a great night before I read your stupid comments!

With all due respect whether the laws are outdated or not is of concern to no one outside of Quebec. You may not like the laws themselves (and I personally don't) but they are in place for a good reason and are largely approved by the Quebecois population(Montreal Gazette non-wistanding).
As for aaaarrg or whatever: your logic is completely lacking. On the one hand you're saying that the majority rule should operate yet you're saying the Francophone majority in Quebec have no right to stand up for themselves. You realize these laws apply only in Quebec where the vast majority of people are Francophone, right? And you seemingly know nothing of how the law operates if you think it infringes on anyone's freedoms... educate yourself first.

Praise the baby jesus, I weren't the only one.
I'm sure they'll fix it, I doubt Epic is going to be that chinsy. Time will tell.
I'm less upset about that seeing as I ended up getting a midnight gold hammerburst after waiting in line for, oh, 10 minutes at about 10am today XD

Well, the reason for this is that in quebec, by law, all products must have french or bilingual instructions and packaging. Usually these products are just a little paper covering right under the shrink wrap....While i find it somewhat wierd that this was distributed everywhere in Canada, I find that for once a company really did not cheap out on the french documentation, which for me is great

Good effort on the Jouale, but it really could use a few more "tabernac"s and "calice"s. The "osti" is a nice touch, though.
Just throw them in right before the end of any sentence:
Tabernac de calice! Les joueurs Canadiens qui parle pas le français sont en criss, osti. D'après les bonhomme des forums d'Epic, ceux qui ont acheté l'édition limitée de "Gears of War 2" ont découvert les pochette de jeux ont été écrits completement en français, calice. Capoté, osti! That's how I speak french, anyways.

The only good thing to come out of this for us Canadians (or at least those who bought from Futureshop) is that it came with a free locust replica http://www.futureshop.ca/multimedia/products/large/10113682.jpg

Not like it's going on my bookshelf, but I would have liked if the hardcover one was in English. I don't understand why they would print it in french at all if they were including the other language in softcover. Wouldn't it make more sense to have all the hardcover ones printed in English 'cause they can sell all over North America? Then only add the French version to the package in Quebec? You don't need to have a MBA to understand that bit of business.

I am quite pissed.
I was going to throw out the French one because I want the actual metal game box + English art book to fit into the limited edition cover box which it doesn't.
Putting in the English art book doesn't work either because its too thin, so everything inside slides out.
Yes I am quite pissed.

Well, I'll throw my hat in the ring on this one since I actually live in Quebec and nobody seems to get it juuuust right. It's like trying to find a good poutine outside of this province.
Go habs go!
The last part is totally gratuitous btw.
