Capcom reveals length of Sony approval process
It's rare that us common folk get a glimpse of the inner workings of the industry makers, so when we glean even the tiniest morsels of information, we take note. Today's nugget of wisdom comes from Christian Svensson, Capcom's vice president of strategic planning & business development. In an interview on the official company blog, Svensson sheds some light on how Sony's approval works, including the length of time to get approved.
"SCEA and MS can turn things around in 5-7 days most times," he said. "SCEE is closer to two weeks but they have a system where you can see the progress and bugs as they're testing." Svensson estimates it takes the company five or six more days after a fail report from one of the console makers before they resubmit. Rinse, lather, repeat. Keep that in mind next time you read about a PlayStation Network or Xbox Live Arcade game submitted for approval. Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix is currently awaiting approval on both platforms.

For once I'll be waiting as long as it takes for the PS3 version due to the not-quite-as-crappy d-pad.

So what you've just told me here is that if I live in Europe my PS3 games will have a full week of additional testing along with the bug fixes that come with that testing? And all I have to do is live in a country that most likely has faster cheaper internet connections and a less war happy government? How do they survive over there?
Mechanical @ Nov 10th 2008 11:55PM
Take your trolling elsewhere, would you kindly?
R @ Nov 11th 2008 12:25AM
Oh, thats easy. They survive because everytime they, or really any other country gets into any sort of war, they last about 5 minutes before they go crawling back to this other country for help.
Ohhhhh what was the name of that country again..... /ponder

But my drinking makes Joystiq so much more enjoyable (and I already love it sober)!
Now I realize I should have left out the war comment, but seriously I don't see the problem with a console company performing a couple weeks of testing before unleashing 3rd party applications upon the masses. I've dealt with PC developers relying more and more on patches to fix show stopping bugs in their products, consoles had always been nearly a sure thing. Unfortunately I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to cling to that.

What's another week or two when this game should've been out 6 months ago.
H Choi @ Nov 11th 2008 1:45AM
So that explains why alot of games and DLC on the PS3 are released a few weeks after they debut on the 360.

The turn around from compliance testing by Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are all different depending on the title, when it's trying to release and if it's downloaded or from disk.
Seanross @ Nov 11th 2008 3:21AM
At least it's not like Nintendo's process...
Nintendo: Does it Boot up?
Dev.: Yes
Nintendo: Pass... next?
(And I actually like Nintendo T_T)

No real opinion here, just want to get to post history.
Chase @ Nov 11th 2008 2:25PM
Is "post history" a euphemism for gonorrhea?
If it isn't, it should be, as I just gave you gonorrhea.
YOU R WELKOM

Why is it a surprise that anything having to go through another group who could give a shit takes a long time?
Not quite as hard as getting the government to get off their ass an approve something though..
Hopefully Bison and Honda aren't too old to fight by the time the game gets rolled out - heh.

I can wait another week just don't make it too long. I don't know the logistics but as long as it get done I am cool with it.
