EVE Online devs to birth FPS
We don't, exactly, know anyone who plays EVE Online, but we imagine they might be excited by the news that developer CCP is working on a first-person shooter set within the EVE universe. We hope they're excited, because we just don't know what to think.
After a torrential downpour over the past couple of months, our gut reaction is "No! Stop! No more games!" but we guess it could have promise. We'd be especially open to it if they planned on introducing some MMO elements, to fill the hole Planetside left in our hearts when we stopped caring about it.

You haven't played EVE Online?
In my opinion it's one of the best MMORP games ever. Right now CCP are one of my favorite company in the videogame industry.
You should play EVE Online! I mean...u...are gamers, right? ;)

Basically, the only MMO I've tried that I've really liked.

Wow, sounds like an ad...
Having played EVE Online, I can tell you it's nothing special. It's almost entirely filled with in-gratuitous grinding that would turn off all but the most dedicated MMO, Battlestar-loving fans.
NOTE: This isn't hate towards EVE fans, if anything you guys should take pride in my analysis. There's nothing wrong with being hardcore to the extreme, just don't dis the more casual players for not spending 120 hrs trying to get a moderately better class ship.

It would be even better if the FPS was directly connected to EVE online, and actions in the FPS could affect things in the RPG and visa versa. It would be even better if it was just like an expansion to EVE and you could travel to planets and board ships in first person mode.
That would make me actually want to play the game. I definitely thought EVE was interesting, but I couldn't bring myself to pay for an interactive screen saver.

Oy 'stiq, the user base is small, but it exists and is stable, which is more than can be said for most that challenge the MMORPG throne. But 'tis true, WoW probably has testing servers with more users than all of Eve.
Though I didn't think CCP was creating an FPS, so much as just allowing players to wander the stations they dock in. Is this something else entirely then?
feffrey @ Nov 10th 2008 8:05PM
The major diff between eve and almost all other mmorpgs, is that there is only 1 server, (other than testing) that everyone plays on. This afternoon there were 33,201 players on at once, all in one frigging huge star map.
The walking in stations that will be release eventually is still a part of eve online
the eve fps is going to be a completely new game that is fps.

Wicked. EVE is the only MMO I could get into, I just don't have the time for any MMO these days. Can't wait to see what CCP does with the FPS genre. Maybe we'll finally see a nice MMOFPS?
michas_pi @ Nov 10th 2008 7:48PM
They better be working with Blizzard on Starcraft: Ghost.
Temidien @ Nov 10th 2008 10:23PM
Lmao! Good one dude. Good one...
(oh, that wasn't a joke?)
The Teej @ Nov 10th 2008 8:08PM
Oh wow, I may actually pay for this MMO, providing they actually keep it a core FPS and not just make First Person Eve. I really like the MMO concept, it's just that I don't have the time to invest in a character in an MMORPG. Consdering I actually have to pay to play, on top of having to invest time, it's a model I'm not really interested in.
However, an MMOFPS I can go in and out of as I please, without being tied down to any sort of long-term commitment? Count me in. I'd probably even be OK with paying a monthly fee for it, especially if it has Eve graphics.
wickedpheonix @ Nov 10th 2008 8:16PM
Let me just go ahead and say: FUCK YES! CCP is one of the better developers out there if only purely by the fact that they're still supporting EVE after all these years with new, free expansions for subscribers. Can't wait to see what they can do with the FPS genre :D
