Joystiq hands-on: BioShock PS3 'Worlds of Hurt' DLC

Just didn't find BioShock PS3's Survivor difficulty, well, masochistic enough? Then you'll want to give the game's DLC – coming to PSN on Nov. 20 – a spin, if only for the utterly insane "Worlds of Hurt" challenge room. We had a chance to brave it ourselves and found that we needed every ounce of courage and knowledge of Rapture's workings to make it through even a bit.
The scenario has you battling through several rooms of increasing difficulty with the ultimate goal of freeing a Little Sister. It starts off with a single Splicer but soon tests every strategy-forming inch of your grey matter.
The scenario has you battling through several rooms of increasing difficulty with the ultimate goal of freeing a Little Sister. It starts off with a single Splicer but soon tests every strategy-forming inch of your grey matter.
The first couple of rooms are relatively easy, although you start off without any Plasmids or most of your arsenal. These items are unlocked soon after, though, and then it's up to you to choose which order to tackle the rest of the rooms in. Completing one – and being sure to search everywhere and loot every corpse – will reward you with items and money, along with the Adam the Little Sister doles out as a "thank you."
The cash and Adam is spent between rooms to build up your powers and weapons as you see fit. One room in particular is chock-a-block with security turrets, so we found that the Security Beacon Plasmid came in very handy. Speaking of handy, you're also given a preview of each room's contents before committing, by way of glass ceilings you must walk across before dropping in.
Another room we tackled featured nothing but Houdini Splicers and descending staircases. Yet another was a smorgasbord of every possible enemy in the game. We died. Hard.
Where the two other challenge rooms included in the DLC offering, "A Shocking Turn of Events" and "The I in Team," might not have you coming back for fifths, we can see "Worlds of Hurt" – which can be played on any difficult setting – being a draw for quite some time, if only to say "I survived." Hey, 2K ... Trophies are nice and all, but how about a special T-Shirt for those of us who do survive on Survivor?

I love how the DLC's title is a reference to Steve Job's and his stance on Blu-Ray.

If you're going to whore yourself out then at least do it well. Try putting some god-damned effort into it, "i can't believe this game has such powerful guns" LOL

"No DLC is exclusive forever"
And considering that it was to be on BR disc in first place but it isn't should tell you something ;)

Bioshock on PS3 is very VERY weak port.
Nothing "lost" if You are one of person that cry after every "lost" exclusive.
And DLC? Just wait - I have a strange feeling that it wont be exclusive too long too...

WAH DEY TOOKS MY EXCWUSIVE!

Knock it off with your nonsense. You're always just making shit up or making mountains out of mole hills when it comes to the PS3. A "VERY" weak port? There is a 1 point difference on Metacritic between the two versions and that can very likely be more than explained away due to the game being a late port on the PS3. The 360 likely got a little extra credit since the game was reviewed when the hype was big.
Vidikron @ Nov 11th 2008 3:04AM
Here, I'll give you an example: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/920/920389p2.html
Go read that page. The PS3 version is getting knocked because it had the SAME issues as the 360 version. Their contention is that those issues should have been ironed out during time taken to port it to the PS3. In other words, the PS3 is just as good if not better than the 360 version, but since they didn't fix the bugs found in the 360 version they took extra points off.

Bioshock on PS3 looks like Vaseline smeared s*** on screen:

Works like *** too:

"[quote]Put simply, the graphics in the PS3 version of BioShock are shit; in a less harsh tone, they’re disappointing to say the least. Visually, it looks as though the entire game was rendered at a lower resolution and then upscaled. The lighting effects have been toned down for the PS3 port, and yet somehow the frame rate manages to get juttery when too much is going on. "
Speaking about such silly things like 5GB mandatory installation, lack of 60fps mode (not that it was something speciall on X360 but...), some very low quality textures, etc.
And some retail comparison by grandmaster(FoundryHD - full RGB etc:)

"Yikes, this conversion is as rough as a badger's arse. IQ and frame rate both take a hammering compared to the 360 version."
Vidikron @ Nov 12th 2008 4:37PM
Again, go read the IGN review. They clearly state the PS3 version looks better in some parts and the same in others.
And I'm not even going to bother with looking at your screenshots. You tried the same BS with Mercs 2 when you claimed that the 360 version had no tearing and the PS3 version did. Your proof was a single comparison shot where the PS3 version had some tearing and the 360 did not. Yet you posted that screenshot in a thread where Joystiq was talking about a comparison video and the screenshot (from the video) they used for their article had tearing on the 360 side and not the PS3 side.
All you ever do is cherry pick screenshots and post "info" from obscure sources to make the PS3 versions of games look bad when they really are not. I, OTOH, have linked to a credible source that completely contradicts what you are saying and can point to Metracritic as further proff of your BS.

Can we finish the game now plz? (polish, dtail, balance, ect, ect)
God its already made all the money its going to make...why not finish the Gdamn thing instead of add more crap to it....
Popfrogs @ Nov 12th 2008 1:09PM
This is the unfortunate side effect of lame PC developers building games for consoles. In the PC world it's acceptable to half-ass a game and patch it for years after its release (BF2 etc.). Now these same clumsy, lazy devs are bringing their mentality to the X360 and PS3 and you're looking at the end result.
Maybe Fallout 3 with its myriad fails is a good example.

Umm...they patched BS maybe twice that a "myriad of patches over the years" doseitnot make.
I'll admit FO3 has issues but its the different between a hot girl with DDDD's being retarded and a fat guy being restarted both are dumb fcks but one is "fun" to be around :P
I swear BS is not only rushed but simplified and paced to the point of stupidity.
FO3 has mostly polishing issues(damages, equipment, balancing, ect) but frankly...they let you mod the damn thing which basically means it will be perfected. BS is as it is broken out of the box (aka a b.o.o.b) and their to busy making money off it to fix it...like the big 3 car markers...
