New Dead Space weapons, skins coming Nov. 13

"Attention ... this is Isaac Clarke, everyday systems engineer, aboard what's left of the USG Ishimura. Can anyone out there hear me? This ship is plagued with horrific creatures that have practically ripped me apart. I need help!"
"Oh hey th-<BZZKT> Isaac, this is the U.S.S. Riccitiello. We can totally help you out. We've got some Astronaut armor here and a Steam Punk Force Gun that's <BZZKT>etty good. Really, it's great stuff."
"Oh thank God, that's perfect! Please send them over!"
"Sure! There's just the small matter of payment, and then we'll be off to the races."
"What, payment? Are you serious?"
"Yeah, but, hey, we accept both cash and Microsoft points! We've got a whole bunch of products that you can check out. You wanna make your gun look like a hot rod? Get some bitchin' flame decals on there? Cause we can totally do that."
"What? Why the hell would I -- no, you know what? I don't have time for this, my leg just got eaten by a plant monster."

so they really did charge for the suits etc.
I have pony'd up a stack of cash for the ultra limited edition (I currently don't own a 360) and have purchased this for the ps3.
I'll be damned if I stump up anymore cash for tweaks.
Guerrilla @ Nov 10th 2008 9:45AM
Does that strike anyone else as way too many DLC "packs"? I had to read over them twice just to sort it all out in my head.
The weapon packs sound neat, but unless you're really struggling with Impossible mode it seems to take the fun out of finding nodes and upgrading. You know, since you wouldn't have to.
atomicvoodoo @ Nov 10th 2008 9:45AM
And coming soon for only 800 points, you'll be able to download a pack in which the game plays itself. I'm expecting a game in which you have to pay a "nominal fee" to play the last level. Not the same thing I know, but Jesus Christ...
MagusDF @ Nov 10th 2008 1:53PM
this game comes with a bonus treasure hunt mode where you set out to find your moms credit card and enter the special number in to get a bonus prize
Dirty @ Nov 10th 2008 9:48AM
Way to whore out your new successful franchise EA.
Jerk Face @ Nov 10th 2008 10:02AM
This does not equal Dead Space: Petz Edition. An admittedly large amount of weapon packs is not 'whoring' out a franchise. You don't HAVE to buy them, you know?
Dirty @ Nov 10th 2008 10:12AM
If you dont buy horse armor the terrorist win?
Jerk Face @ Nov 10th 2008 10:34AM
Uncle Sam wants YOU to buy horse armor!
WiredKnight @ Nov 10th 2008 11:40AM
@Jerk Face
It is when all they're doing is retexturing weapons and tweaking numbers. This content could have been made in a day.
T @ Nov 10th 2008 9:48AM
Is it me...or do all of those packs sounds pretty worthless?
"Oh wowee! I can shoot a gun that looks like an Xbawks?!"
I don't even have the game...but I downloaded the Elite Suit when it was free. Just in case this happened.
Questworld @ Nov 11th 2008 2:25AM
Hey, me too. :)
Jerk Face @ Nov 10th 2008 9:49AM
You know, I loved this game enough that when I play through it again (you know, when I finish the overwhelmingly large pile of awesome games this winter), I'll consider grabbing a pack or two. Getting the free Elite suit was totally awesome the first way through, and if I'm going through it on the hardest difficulty like I plan to, the extra firepower couldn't hurt.
In this case, the game was definitely full enough that this doesn't just feel like the "shit that should have been there already" kind of DLC.
Comet @ Nov 10th 2008 9:49AM
Remember when stuff like this was unlockable by doing things in game? DLC = worst thing to happen to gaming.
Shmil @ Nov 10th 2008 9:50AM
Now that's the EA we know and loathe
Guibs @ Nov 10th 2008 9:51AM
Wow, there is for almost 20$ worth of bogus items in those packs. Talk about milking it. Who would spend 20$ for skins and tweaks?
I absolutely adore this game. I finished it and thought it was simply amazing, one of my favorite game of this year, but this kind of DLC makes me sick. Either pack them togehter at a reduce price or reduce the pricing. Too expensive for what it's worth.
bet0n @ Nov 21st 2008 9:03AM
Actually it seems that at least some of the items have re-vamped specs. For example the obsidian suit is level 5 which gives you boost in the performance and item slots, also some guns have in description that they have boosted specs...
drew @ Nov 10th 2008 9:57AM
why do extra skins always cost money?
at least we get some weapons too
Brent @ Nov 10th 2008 10:01AM
Who keeps buying this crap? If nobody bought it, they wouldn't make it...so somebody must be buying.
JoeTheBlow @ Nov 10th 2008 10:38AM
Same people who make ring-tones and wallpapers a multi-billion dollar business, even though ever phone (except the iphone) can take any MP3, recorded sound, or photo and use it easily for free.
The general public in other words, millions upon millions of idiots out there.
D dogg @ Nov 10th 2008 11:43AM
You seem SO ASTOUNDED that there is a 4 million to 1 chance that someone doesn't agree with you and buys this crap you speak of. If there are 4 million copies of DeadSpace sold, chances are someone from that pool of 4 million people will buy this content.
I, for one, may buy one of the packs. I really like the game and anything that enhances or tailors it more towards my liking appeals to me. You can say whatever you want but it won't sway my opinion... does that bother you? You calling everyone who doesn't agree with you an idiot is VERY close minded. Would you prefer if the gaming industry were communistic and everyone was of the same opinion as you?
That's the problem with young or closed minded people... you don't seem to comprehend that variety truly is the spice of life and your idea may not always be the best.
XLM @ Nov 10th 2008 1:19PM
Joe, you seem to be running around with year old outdated info, time to hit refresh.
You can easily use "any mp3 or recorded sound" as a ringtone in an iphone for free.
Biff_McFresh @ Nov 10th 2008 2:23PM
Wow, that response was far too deep.
Kilo720 @ Nov 10th 2008 10:02AM
WHAT!!!
come on why is there all this dlc for skin and suit how bout a extra mission or so
maybe i buy the one with the new big weapon but this alease have a pack with all tha pack in it
there too many pack lol
D dogg @ Nov 10th 2008 10:31AM
I, unlike many a gamer who has became a god damn pile of whiny shit, actually look forward to some of these. I think it's great that I get to experience the game with CHOICES (with many at that... these gamers don't seem to realize that you don't have to buy EVERY DLC piece) and tailor Dead Space a little more towards how I'd like to play it.
I've explored quite a bit of the game so far and I gotta say it's a lotta fun (up to mission 8).
Most of the gamers in here are crying for more levels and missions... well, I'd counter and say that maybe you should try other games out there OR play a sport... OR something because your spending too much time playing games if you want more missions RIGHT NOW, damn game came out less than a month ago.
Mechanical @ Nov 10th 2008 10:36AM
Well put in the first block.
Dirty @ Nov 10th 2008 10:47AM
I would say the the prevailing opinion is that DLC should add something new to the game (levels) not just jazz up whats already there (skins).
All these "piles of whiny shit" are just concerned with the direction of the industry. With publisher fat cats looking to score a quick buck to increase the stock price for the month, we have a lot to whine about.
D dogg @ Nov 10th 2008 11:30AM
@ Dirty
"All these "piles of whiny shit" are just concerned with the direction of the industry. With publisher fat cats looking to score a quick buck to increase the stock price for the month, we have a lot to whine about."
First off, it's good you're involved enough to care about the direction of the industry (I myself was concerned when the industry went from 2D greats such as Super Metroid and Street Fighter) but don't damn everything just because it costs money; this isn't horse armor nor is it already in the game waiting to be unlocked.
Also, about the quick buck, remember you're not FORCED to download anything. I think today's gamers are taking for granted that getting additional content for games on consoles was NOT possible just a few years ago; that was a huge benefit of gaming on a PC. So, having said that, ANYTHING you can get additionally through downloadable content is a bonus... unless it's just unlocking something already on the disc, than that can be considered exploitation of consumers wallets but if it's ADDITIONAL content, no matter what, than it's completely valid.
Haggard @ Nov 10th 2008 12:00PM
I'd say this is exactly horse armour.
Mechanical @ Nov 10th 2008 10:35AM
Nobody said you had to get them. If you want to, great, have fun with the packs. But really, the way half you morons talk about it is implying that EA is making the game unplayable without it. God forbid a company tries to profit with extra stuff on the side.
Obie @ Nov 10th 2008 1:19PM
@GuidedbyVoip: Spaghetti cat FTW!
JoeTheBlow @ Nov 10th 2008 10:35AM
I downloaded the then-free obsidian suit and forever regret it.
The all-black look is hard to see, lacks the character details (blood) of the proper suit, and the full inventory and armour ratings have made the game too easy by far.
So fuck "game enhancing" DLC, its for pussies.
Worse still, i can't seem to get rid of it and put my normal suit back on. Any ideas?
guidedbyvoip @ Nov 10th 2008 11:26AM
Delete the DLC.
D dogg @ Nov 10th 2008 11:36AM
Ironically I thought the exclusive Xbox 360 suit looked horrible in pictures compared to the PS3 one but once I saw it in game, the Xbox 360 one looks amazing... the BRIGHT green glow from the helmet is fantastic.
I agree with above, try deleting the content.
Kattleox @ Nov 10th 2008 10:40AM
So does the Elite Xbox skin look exactly like the "exclusive PS3 obsidian skin"? Or is the only difference that three of the now four lights on his back will glow red and the game will crash, making you buy a special "unbrick skin" from EA, which would, of course look like bricks?
superklye @ Nov 10th 2008 2:17PM
I see what you did there.
Obie @ Nov 10th 2008 10:44AM
I knew EA was gonna screw us over somehow.
I like the game, but you ain't getting a fuckin' dime outta me.
ScottG13 @ Nov 10th 2008 10:45AM
Is this a Namco release?
That's an AWFUL lot of microcrap. Bundle that all together for $10, MAYBE. Probably not for most, though.
Deatharea @ Nov 10th 2008 11:28AM
I think $5 would be a fare amount that I would be willing to spend on all of that. $10 though? Still to pricey.
ScottG13 @ Nov 10th 2008 11:41AM
$5 is probably about right for a bunch of skins. I guess it depends on how much you are into the title. I still haven't cracked mine open yet, so... yeah.
peepoop @ Nov 10th 2008 10:58AM
Lookin' pretty Horse Armor, there, EA.
Blazur @ Nov 10th 2008 10:59AM
So how many times can you equip a downloaded suit in the game before you need to call EA about it?
Dirty @ Nov 10th 2008 12:01PM
nice
Swamp Donkey @ Nov 10th 2008 11:03AM
Lame, anyone that buys this crap is retarded.
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Nov 10th 2008 11:09AM
Yes, let's already talk about how much better EA now is just because they gave us two new IP's, shall we?
Blazur @ Nov 10th 2008 11:33AM
Boy were we fooled =[
[.sm0ke.] @ Nov 10th 2008 11:17AM
On one hand, $30.50 for all of that. On the other hand, you don't need it to play the game, and it's a pretty fantastic game.
This, in my opinion, is perfectly ok. It's definitely a far cry from Oblivion's horse armor (which I heard actually sold pretty well) or in-game money for The Godfather. And it's definitely not Lumines.
Tez @ Nov 10th 2008 11:31AM
No thanks.
Deaddy @ Nov 10th 2008 11:32AM
I don't own this game yet, ordered it though. The only item that really appeals to me is that astronaut suit. That might be pretty cool. Suits appeal to me way more than gun skins. Dl'd the free obsidian suit, I haven't seen the scorpion suit yet, if it looks really cool I may consider it, but strongly doubt it.
WiNG [Life in a Game] @ Nov 10th 2008 11:36AM
How much will this cost on PC?
Oh, wait.
iFester @ Nov 10th 2008 11:47AM
I foresee that when you purchase the gun packs, after the rounds in the gun are depleted, there aren't any in the game to refill them.
