What's this? Charlie Brown's beagle, Snoopy, in a game that actually looks like fun? Snoopy Flying Ace looks a little hardcore for the Peanuts crowd, pitting Snoopy against the Germans in World War I. You play as Snoopy, the flying ace, and it doesn't look like he's just fighting the Red Baron anymore, he's taking on all comers. While it's not clear if Charlie Brown, Linus, or any of the others will be showing up, Woodstock is definitely in there.
Smart Bomb Interactive is developing this title, and it's doing it a bit backwards: without a publisher. The developers secured the license for the game on their own, and they're hoping someone will want to get it on shelves once it's finished... in 2010 (!). It looks like an updated version of their own Snoopy vs. The Red Baron, which Namco Bandai published a couple of years ago, and is slated to appear on "the usual consoles" according to their press release.
Since we've yet to see another Crimson Skies title, this might fill the gap until we do. Especially if there's a Lucy vs. Snoopy: No Holds Barred mode.

I wonder if it has a sortie where we could swoop in over the pumpkin patch and take out poor Linus' blanket, watch him get a good cry in. Or take out the Great Pumpkin, if it were to ever show up...
And yeah, this actually kind of does look interesting, I foresee oodles of demo downloads, and modest sales...

Well, I'm no smoker, but that is definitely on my radar now.
I'd love me some snoopy flying action.

The game needs The Royal Guardsmen to do the proper theme song:

As the single adult human male that played Snoopy vs The Red Baron, I can attaest that if this game is anything like it, it will be very competent at the very least.

I wonder if you'll be able to manually jump from plane to plane or if that was a cutscene for the game.

With something like peanuts you have to be real careful that you are honoring the spirit of the creator. Charles Shultz was an amazing man and this seems to be done in his spirit. Keeping with the character of Snoopy, keeping the violence cartoon enough to not dishonor peanuts, and yet havening a fun action packed game that plays out what we only saw in Fantasy in the comic. I can't wait. Looks great!!!

I think it looks cool, but...
Why can't he be flying on his doghouse and why can't he use his fingers to shoot with, just like the cartoon?

You can shoot down Albatrosses and Fokkers with just your fingers? I know those planes were made of wood, but give them *some* credit!
A+ for showing real gameplay footage. I'm actually interested in this. The fact I'm a major WWI airplane buff has nothing to do with it, of course.

Yes, I'm not saying that my approach would be realistic, but based on the gameplay footage do you think the game is realistic? Any fan of the Peanuts would know that Snoopy would fly on his dog house and shoot with his fingers--I just think it would be cool.

This is going to be the best Peanuts game since the original Snoopy and the Red Baron for the Atari 2600.

How the heck can this still need another full year in development?! It already looks WAY too polished to be just a tech demo or publisher-bait. Then again, it really only looked like one or two flying levels and maybe running around a flying fortress. If that's all there is to it right now... well, I still want it, but I can understand why they're hesitant to give a solid or closer date.
Still, if they're not looking to deliver before 2010 they might as well not bother with a PS2 version.

I hate Snoopy/Peanuts.
BUT WAIT.
This game looks good. Just hope there are mostly air combat levels and not platforming ones, since those will probably pale in comparison.

Why the platforming elements?
The PSP shooter with Snoopy was sheer brilliance.
