Oh bloody hell, now I look like an inbred simpleton. That was aimed at Startlingline117. If there's one thing I absolutely, positively hate with Splashtop Linux is that it can (and does) screw up Joystiq's comment system.

---If I sell the game to GameStop, the sucker who buys the used game can't finish it because the code has already been used. Then they have to go buy the code to finish the game.---

Again, THAT is theft. Is that evil? Well it depends on weither you think theft is evil. But society (as indicated by the reaction here) thinks its wrong, and the law reflects that. Enforcement is a problem.

Apply this idea to any industry that deal with resales (which is to say any and every industry). And there would be no question in your mind it was illegal.

Buy a used movie? Pay 5 dollars to get the last 20 mintues? Buy a used refrigerator? Sorry, buddy you need to buy a reedem code to open the freezer door. But you can still use the frige and the ice maker.

You can't do that. You can go about justifying it anyway you want. Even though its hard to achknowledge, the flash back map pack exists in physical space. On a disk, that is bought.

Weither used or new. Used sales are perfectly legal. And denying people access to part of a product, because they bought it used, is not.

Sounds like Army of Two, except that EA gave that away for free, which is a damn good thing given how the game was received when it was released in it's incomplete state.

--The point you are missing here is that other mediums have ways to collect their money.---

Every industry deals with reselling. Not just "mediums" of entertainment. If you can buy something, you can sell it. Anything in a store, can be bought used. A handful of industries have other ways of making money. One of them is the interactive entertainment industry.

--Ex: Music - tours, and merch
Movies - rentals in store, online, and digital distribution sales

But games on the other hand cannot always be sold online. Not everyone has a broadband connection to download their titles.-----

So wait, digital distribution of movies can be used as an example, but digital distribution of games can't be? Games have DLC to give them more money. Game publishers sell themes and gamerpics at bloated prices. Game publishers sell games online. Finally many games have, and will continue to have in-game advertising. Hyped games get very generous partnership offers, from everyone from mountain dew to the u.s army.

Then we go back to the fact games cost a fraction of the amount to make as movies. And games cost 3 times as much to buy. The interactive entertainment industry is the fastest growing entertainment industry, for a reason.

--In fact a large portion of consoles and computers are not permanently connected to the internet. So what do they do?--

This is so logically disconnected from reality, and what you previously said that im not even going to respond.

Speaking as someone who has made games, I am absolutely sickened by the developers who are against second-hand sales. They are nothing but corporate whores who don't deserve to be allowed in this business.

Imagine, companies breaking games into pieces and selling them for more than games used to cost!

::Remembers DLC and episodic games::

Oh, wait...

As someone who is still trying to catch up on games missed last gen by getting them used, I'd like to say "Fuck you" to Mike Capps.

Also- Do they still link to Epic Classics (an entity completely seperate to Epic that sells their much superior DOS-era games) on their site essentially making Capps hypocritical?

This is pretty fucking slanderous. The quote says it all: "I've talked to some developers who are saying..."

Not only is this not Dr. Capps' idea, as far as this "article" states we don't even know if he's for or against it.

So thanks to this poorly worded entry, people are going to think he's behind schemes like this, when I'd wager Epic to be one of the last studios to ever implement something like this.

Can you even read your own quote? I guess that wouldn't allow you to put a scandalous headline on the article then, linking those words to a high profile developer/studio. He clearly said he was talking to OTHER developers who mentioned that as an idea, not talking to himself and suggested it to himself.
Many many many things come up in conversations regarding game development that never see the light of day (and for good reason) just as they do in any industry. Get over it and stop making these pathetic tabloid scandal mongering articles full of BS.

The only good thing I could see coming out of this idea is that gameslop would be forced to sell their used games for at least $20 cheaper than a new copy. That's a big difference from the current $.99-$2 savings you'd get now.
