as much as i love gears, the bugs in matchmaking are ruining the game for me. why is the weapon slide back when it was patched out in gears 1? and the chainsaw? dont even get me started about that one...

but, this is a step in the right direction. hopefully they will release a patch soon.

Huh? Why are people making bs up.. I've tried weapon sliding, etc. and none of it is in there.. the only problems they're talking about is how long matchmaking takes.

Like every game in existence, the multiplayer will need multiple patches.

You can only test the game so much.

Horde mode FTW!

fuck no.
My Super smash bros. for n64 doesn't need a patch. My golden eye doesn't need a patch, hell my mortal kombat 1 doesn't need a patch.

Game company should sell us products have bug that disrupts normal play or its selling points. The fact some of these news games are getting prefect scores and still have common showstopping bugs is horrible.

Yea and the source code for those games is nowhere near as complex as the code for gears. Not to mention that those games dont have online, which is the source of many of these problems.

I guess I invited the ridiculous comparison when I exaggerated every game in existence. *Every game in the online era*.

TF2 didn't need patches that fix something as basic as connection issues.

Exploits and glitches are a different story though.

Stopping giving lazy devs excuses. They should not release a game which has bugs, especially if those bugs were apparant and resolved in the first installement!

Pathetic.

"They should not release a game which has bugs,"

I agree that obvious bugs should be fixed before a game's release, but the above statement is just a completely unrealistic expectation. Almost every game in existence has bugs somewhere. And it's tougher than ever with the increasing complexity of the games and with the online components. Honestly, even today most games play just fine in offline single player modes.

So far, I have played co-op campaign mode, and Horde. On the basis of these two modes, and with the disappointing launch of LBP, GOW2 is my new frontrunner for Game Of The Year.

The game is meticulously designed. They have nailed two very difficult objectives in every minute of the 8-10 hours I have played:

1) There is always something interesting and exciting happening

2) Whenever I fail/die, I feel like it was my fault, and if I do things a little smarter/better next time, I'll be able to succeed.

I have not tried any Vs. Multiplayer so far, and I'm not really in a rush, since I didn't get into it in GOW1.

I just want to know if they plan on wiping the leaderboards. When I got the game on day 1 people had over 2 million points. Obviously they had pirated the game and had been playing it for at least a straight month.

**Possible Spoilers**

My only disappointment thus far is that first tank section. The tank controls poorly and the section with the frozen lakes is a bit on the cheap side.

I agree with both you guys. I'm better at killing people with the Shotgun in Gears 2. Why? Hmmm because I was *always* better at the game, but now the glitchers who outgunned me in the first game are suddenly finding it harder to take me down. Revenge is sweet!

I have problems with the occasional lag spike during multiplayer, long matchmaking times, and this really obnoxious issue where it says hit R to play while I'm in co-op sessions. The latter cost me my all levels on co-op achievement.

Rowdy running is pointless now. Option to use the old shotgun from Gears1. Let me tweek shit more! Option to turn off the crappy Halo like Lobby and bring back the old Lobby.

I agree with Orionsaint. If people aren't good at games they just shouldn't play them. In fact, if you aren't a pro at gears 2 you shouldn't even buy it. They should make the game harder so that all the noobs don't even want to buy it because they'll just piss their noob pants anyways. Face it, there are only two people that are leet enough to play gears and that is me and orionsaint. all you other noobs need to stop crying for epic to noob the game down so others will want to play it too. noobs!

OMG.. grow the "f" up? Yeah... it sure wouldn't be wise from a business stand point to widen your audience. Nor would it make sense to dumb down NOOB tactics of exploiting cheapass moves that annoy the "s" out of other players and make the game unbalanced. You'll notice there are more tactics and weapons this time around. You may want to try some variety. I'll leave it to the hands of capable developers like Cliff B and Epic to decide what works in a game and not people that cry when they are not winning as often as they CHEAPLY should!

You know why there isn't any balance? because noobs suck more than us tru pros leet (it's a verb too!) it will be better balanced if only the pros play because everyone is a pro like me and my boy Orionsaint. All that tactis and sh*t is bullsh*t! This isn't stratego! This is Gear of WAR 2! You go out to the battlefield and you aren't gonna be seeing noobs with calculators, you gonna see me and my boy oSt and we are gonna run up your ass and SHOTGUN yo bitches!

Yeah copa, but we were all good at shotgunning. So it all evened out. If you were a new player well tough. We wouldn't play with noobs anyway. Know your shotgun skills. To me gears was running and shotgunning. That was fun to me and my friends. At least give us the option to play like that.

speak the truth brotha. They should just get rid of all the other weapons but the shotgun. they should make like different types of shotguns only. like a double barrel and a triple barrel and a sniper shotgun. but lose all those other pussy weapons because shotguns are the only REAL weapons

I thought the point of Gears was teamwork and moving from cover to cover, trying to suppress your enemy while a friend flanks, but i guess shotgun charging works too

I dislike getting kicked back to the menu after each match. There is no longer a rotation. I don't like playing a match, then having to hit start and wait for the load, only then to be able to select a new map and then load again. If they would add map rotations back or at least kick you back only as far as the map select screen. If you want to add in a new player, fine, then push b to go back, but don't make us go back every time. It slows things down. I thinks.

Exactly! Name me one PC game or game-hosting service where you go to the menu after each match. What, there aren't any? No PC game developer thinks that's a good idea? Well, Epic knows better, obviously.

Sure there are glitches and no way to set up map rotation in private matches is bothersome, but as far as the new weapons/balance issues - I don't really have a problem with anything yet.

I think the shotgun is more consistent and accurate and has a slightly longer reach than the gears 1 shotty; but you have to get used to it. I personally hated when a tactical game devolved into run and gun/roll and shoot. Matches inevitably ended with two players doing the old shotgun dance...

I respect everybody's opinion but I really like most of the new stuff... even the smoke grenades.

It's the teamwork and tactical decisions and that you make on the fly that win you the game. That's what keeps me coming back.

I just beat this game last night and holy shit! The pacing was amazing, the battles are flat out epic, the enemies are intelligent, the mortar gun is a fucking blast to use, the cut scenes are beautiful, hell, I even enjoyed the story. And the ending! Maybe not a cliffhanger in the traditional sense but I'm excited for Gears 3. I wasn't expecting this in the least but this is very probably my GOTY.

Epic got themselves into an interesting dilemma with Gears 1.

The game was designed to be a cover oriented, suppressive fire type game. But, the multiplayer was rushed, and it ended up not balancing out that way, and instead focusing around close range fights, and mainly the shotgun, not the lancer as they had intended.

Well, that made it a very unique game, probably the most unique shooter out there. There are 16,000 xbox 360 games that focus around mid-range machinegun battles, but Gears was the unique, up close, in your face shooter. That led it to be very popular in MP, to the point that it still sat among the XBL top 4 most played games even a full TWO YEARS after release. And all those people that loved it that much, loved it because of that gameplay.

Now comes along Gears 2, and Epic really has time to spend with the multiplayer and to make it into the game they originally intended it to be. The problem is, all of the hardcore Gears fans that have been playing the last 2 years, are in love with the game they actually GOT, not the one they were supposed to get. They liked the shotgun shuffle, the in your face action, the relatively quick pace. So now, if you make the game you originally wanted to make, you're alienating all the people that loved the game you actually made, which is basically what has happened.
