Nope. The decreased battery life was the biggest turn-off for the DSI.

Is the battery life shorter than the original DS?

I didn't either. Decreased battery life and loss of NeoDS is a deal breaker. The downloadable games will have to be amazing in order for me to even consider this purchase.
Posted: Nov 12th 2008 11:21PM (Unverified) said
I did'nt either! Its region-locked and the price to import it is almost double the price!
Il wait for the US release! I hope the downloadable contents will be quality games and not crappy ones!

The only thing I've been interested in with the DSi is the new exclusive Warioware title, but even then, it doesn't seem worth the system to just get that, espcially with the Warioware on the way for the regular DS anyway.

Given the region locking, the lack of homebrew support (so far), the inability to use GBA-slot peripherals (haven't actually ever plugged a GBA game into the DS but I love the paddle... and being able to use my M3 card to give DSLinux an extra 16 megs of RAM) and the fact that the best anyone on the net has come up with to sell me on it has been videos of people morphing body parts in pictures and having them bounce back into place and go "boing"..... well, no, I don't see myself importing one and maybe not even buying one when it becomes available here.
I've long defended Nintendo against charges of having a "kiddie" focus, but throwing two 2002-era cell phone cameras onto your existing game console while taking other functionality away is a 12-year-old-girl magnet at best.

Raindog really hit the nail on the head for me with regard to so many of the new "features" of the DSi: kiddie magnet. As I originally said when there was a video of the cute things you can do w/the video and descriptions of the audio toys, it really seems to me to be appealing to the Japanese School Girl (Wired's term that I just love).
I too have always defended Nintendo as not being a kid's platform. Sadly the DSi, IMO, seems to be aiming directly at kids. Other than the larger screen I'm just not seeing a single thing that would entice me, an older gamer, to buy the DSi now, via import, or ever.
And I agree with all the negatives pointed out elsewhere in these comments. I also think that although this IS DS Fanboy we're beating the "are you going to get a DSi" topic to DEATH.

No, a number of reasons.
1: $300
2: Japanese only interface
3: DSiWare is japanese only
4: Flashcart Lockout
I still want one, but I gotta wait, I'm not paying that much for a DS.

No, for the same reasons as most stated above.
The high cost of importing one isn't justifiable for me, and we don't know if the DSi has any potential flaws (PSP-3000 anyone?). Besides if you have already have a DS lite, Nintendo didn't sell us a great reason to grab a DSi.

Eh, no, you shouldn't import one. Am I the only one that doesn't see the big deal here? Everything the DSi does has been done to a much better degree before. It's nothing special, I'm happy enough with my Lite :]

I have too much common sense to spend $300 on a device when I'd have to buy another one eventually just to use the main reason I want it in the first place.

Let's round all your answers up:
1. $300
2. Flashcart Lockout
3. Shorter Battery Life
4. Will need to be Replaced Anyways
5. Japanese Interface Only
6. DSiWare is Japan Exclusive
7. No GBA Slot
8. Cameras are B.A.D
9. Nothing new that's Important
As for my reason why you shouldn't: You can buy a DS Lite and a PSP Slim for the -Same Price-! Get the best of both worlds!

I may pick one up down the road, I don't know. I don't want to be a Negative Ned before the verdict is in on a localized version. But I am definitely not going to pay $300 for a Japanese version.

No, I'm the autodeclared #1 detractor of this DSi. The console is incredible hideous!
And please, I know this is DS Fanboy, but, you know the answer, this DSi sucks has a lot, it have numbered flaws! Stop askin the same and makin a fuzz about this failure all the time... just pretend it never happens...

No, I will be moving to Japan next year (military) so I might as well wait. Then I will probably get the US release when we come back to the states (and give my old one away). No rush, I can still play the same games.
Posted: Nov 12th 2008 3:34PM (Unverified) said
Who the crap is saying the camera is bad? I've been taking some *fabulous* photos and am actually surprised: it's better than I thought! As for the region lockout, the likelihood that the US is going to be shorted on several awesome games as they get developed, so having the ability to jump onto the Japanese DSi Store is key. Plus, all my old games still work fine, and (maybe it's the kool-aid talking) I think they look better on the DSi.
If a flashcard not working is your reason for not getting one, that's just greedy and foolish. And as for the pricetag, sure, it's steep, but hey, I got a DSi!

and this is why region locking sucks, i don't want to buy another system to play a region locked game. Maybe some have the $$, but the vast majority don't overflow with so much money. And really why would you want to pay another 250-300 for the same system when the DS has such an extensive library that the money would be put to better use by buying more games (unless of course collecting DSes and DSis is your thing....)
And yes I know this only applies to DSWare and it might apply to DSi exclusive games.
I think I'm still recovering from the shock of the region lock, so I'm a little bitter.

No. For all of the reasons stated above.
Also, for some odd reason I've been finding a lot of great GBA games lately. I just bought Boktai 2 at Wal Mart (it was buried at the bottom of the game bargain bin. That's why you have to take the time to dig down below all the copies of "Petz: Horsez" and all those Avatar games for the GameCube that no one bought.), Tales of Phantasia, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and A Link to the Past. I've been playing more GBA games lately than anything. So why give up the GBA slot?

I think the recent revelation that Nintendogs is the best-selling DS game of all time by a comfortable margin might also help explain the DSi's focus.

It is the biggest selling DS game, but then it does have 4 different versions.
Plus compared to its success in America and Europe, Nintendogs' sales have been comparatively low in Japan. And the DSi was made for the main reason of re-igniting DS sales in Japan.

For 300$? No.
And it bugs me for things to be in a different language, plus i heard the Internet was pretty horrid so I'll just wait till its improved and buy a US version.
The missing GBA slot did not upset me because i have a SP and any sane person knows you can pick one up at a pawnshop for 20$.
And for me i disagree with the camera being for girls and such, I am a 17 year old male and i like to take pictures and things like that.

No, mostly because of its region-locking.
If I do get one, I'll probably get the Japanese version when I study abroad there next fall, and just let my fiance get the American one whenever it releases.

* Japanese version at sky-high prices? No thanks.
* Local version at 2/3rds the cost? Yes thanks.
Favourite aspects of redesign:
--------------------
WPA support (would love to hear more on this)
clicky-not-mushy dpad
external storage
matte (not gloss) exterior
cams, fun apps, browser
bigger screens
thinner profile
slightly longer stylus
unfavourite aspects:
--------
*less battery life
*longer length (width?)
*the fact that we still need to unscrew the battery cover to bring a spare battery with us. Very primitive, Nintendo. See PSP for ideas
*GBA slot gone (though nothing major to me)
Reasons for non-import:
---------
1) no Ingrish menus
2) region-locking of online content
3) high price, weak Australian dollar :)

Not until my Lite broken down completely (the cracks at the hinge are getting bigger...)
Price is not an obstacle now since most of the shops in my area are selling it for around $180 only.
