It better be. I'm looking forward to playing Fallout 3 after I finish my "evil" playthrough of Fable II. Already did a "good" play through, which involved only one wife. Now? I'm going to impregnate anything that walks baby! Whooooooooo.

Ya know when I had to escape the vault I blew that girls dads head off right in front of her...but she didn't care she still helped me escape...

I wouldn't have shot him if I had known it was him but I just saw her being interrogated and acted when I thought they were going to hurt her.

hehe, I put my weapon away and took a swing at him first. She ran out of the room screaming, and then I finished him off. She gave me a stern talking to, but still helped me escape. She got over it by the time I came back to the vault.

I don't see why Japan has to censor the whole A-bomb thing.

They deal with the "getting hit with an a-bomb" part of the game, while we (Americans) deal with the "evil mutants run Washington, D.C." part of the game.

The truth hurts.

Yea, screw all of the people who were in DC when it was really decimated and infested with Super Mutants!! Their feelings aren't important at all. Oh wait, that never happened did it.

It is hard to compare DC covered with Super Mutants (Fiction) to the only civilian population to have ever had Atomic Bombs used against them (Fact).

I am not really for censorship either, but is it censorship when the artist chooses to consider another persons feelings? I think not.

Right, because our nation still carries the emotional scars of actually fighting an apocalyptic war against super mutants.

You're a dumbass. Different cultures are different, I know it's a very taxing idea to grasp. Also as someone else pointed out, it isn't a move by the Japanese government. It was a pre-emptive move by BethSoft, like when Blizzard cryptically replied that there are some issues with pandas in China and that's why panderans will never really be featured in WoW, but the Chinese government has no actual law concerning panda portrayal in the media.

think about it logically, to set off a nuke in megaton which is in washington DC would almost be like avenging japan since it was america that dropped nukes on them in ww2. to remove that mission seems like stupid.

i think limb dismemberment is okay just decapitations is what japan disapproves of. but i dont ever recall ninja gaiden 2 being censored. possibly imported content must go some kind of approval system.

No. A one-to-one deal would be Japan gets the A-bomb mission, and the U.S. gets the "Fly two planes into the sides of heavily populated buildings; watch people jump to their death" mission.

It's not censorship, it's called "Sensitivity". And sometimes, that not a bad thing.

Lets Japaness version exchange atomic bombing mission for Nanking Massacre "mission":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanking_Massacre

Makes you warm at heart that even Nazis were squeamish about Japanesse murders and war atrocities.

It also helps if you have a problem with shoting Japanesse soldiers in newest Calll of Duty (*hint* our own Joystiq redactor *hint* )

Pity that you wont find it in history books in Japan but Hiroshima will be on every second page....

It's on order with including the option to blow up the Twin Towers in a game (although multiply the magnitude by a LOT). It would hurt sales, most likely.

Well this was a decision by Bethesda, not an order by any Japanese governmental body.

They probably felt that although their game was good, they perhaps didn't deal with the issue of blowing up a town sensitively enough to avoid controversy.

Yeah, I understood it wasn't the gov't.
Guess I should clarify whether studio's have censored movies in the past...
Anyhow, I can probably dig up a bunch of Anime movies with a-bomb scenes in them... seems silly to censor this game if there's no presedent for complaints or protests of other types of media with similar content.

Sounded stupid to me. Until I thought about, "What if there was some skinhead anti-ghoul "nazi" who gives you the choice to round up some ghouls and place them in a gas chamber where you can watch them die from a distance." I would probably be offended and would rather not have the choice even offered to me.

I thought the pearl harbor mission was the best part of the medal of honor game that it was in. (I forget which one it was). This isnt even glorifying a real event.

This is just a nuke going off in America in a fictional setting. Just saying.

Sometimes i think the sensitivity meters are thrown off for the urge to get that extra dollar/yen by all means necessary. Makes no sense if you ask me.

I'm normally against any kind of censorship also but I can understand why the whole atomic bomb thing would hit a little to close to home in Japan. WWII was over 50 years ago now, but I'm sure those attacks on Nagasaki and Hiroshima are still fresh in some people's minds, even if they weren't alive at the time.

The whole game is about nuclear war but does that mean they should just censor everything? Surely if that one mission is offensive the whole fact of roaming around a nuclear wasteland is equally offensive.

Ridiculous if you ask me.

I think Bethesda is making a pretty clear statement here. They have moved away from the legacy of the original fallout series, which were crafted in order to make an impression and to get people thinking about the potential consequences to society if the nukes drop. Sure it was done in a fun and rather fantastical way, but the statement was still there.

Bethesda removing this part from the game proves they don't care about the message so much as selling more copies. Shame on them.

Hrmm who's more hypocritical/confused? The US or Japan.

Yes lets ban some gore and nuclear themes for a country that has Hentai, with demon penises maiming innocent school girls upon orgasm...
Then we can join our bosses after work, for some sake and bukakke(sp?) with the new secretary.

I can't really tell whether the /sarcasm off was referring to your 'Japan is weird' comment, so I'll just point out that all the weird porn there is entirely the fault of censorship.

I turned off the sarcasm for the final statement. :)

Other than that, studies have proven sex and violence go hand in hand, therefore Japan isn't that dainty. So my referral to Hentai etc, is not saying "Japan is weird".
Its more like saying, F3 with its original content is not going to shock and offend, resulting in an uproar to take the game off the shelves.

"Bethesda's "attempt" at being sensitive seems more like insurance to me. "Just in case we offend", omit the content and not have to worry about a kink in the sales.
