Microsoft's Major Nelson reveals that Gears of War 2 sold two million copies after its emergence at retail last Friday. More than 1.5 million people signed into the game over the weekend, helping it achieve a new record for concurrent players on Xbox Live.
The Major's post doesn't distinguish if the two million figure is global or just US. Microsoft may send out a more detailed press release later touting its achievement (bleep bloop) when the West Coast goes to work. We'll update if there's any extra information.

My internet connection works great in Halo, CoD4, etc. In this instance I was just cruising the internet on my computer waiting for a game to come up as the matchmaking service just reset time and time again. I -have- been able to get on gow2 multiplayer, but this was just one experience out of many where it failed to live up to my expectations.
My router is a wide open Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT lite firmware. I'm on comcast internet since FiOS isn't available yet, but I assure you its still a decent connection. I've run all checks on my Xbox and router to make sure priority is given to my Xbox's MAC address and/or IP.
Next time you assume, don't.

Sorry to hear that dewd. That's a bummer. And here I thought having to juggle play time with doing laundry was going to be a pain in the ass....

Sorry to hear that, lochack. I'm technically on my 5th 360 (3 premium, 2 Elite) but the inconvenience is still not nearly enough that I'd ever consider giving up completely. I mean, what else am I gonna do? Sure the PS3 is a nice diversion and all (don't even get me started on the fucking Wii) but I always manage to come back to the Xbox.

I didn't care for GoW1, but I picked up 2 on a whim and I've loved it. I haven't had as much MP fun since CoD4, as I've been having with Horde.

the first time I played it I couldn't stop laughing. especially Wave 9 & 10. we would last under a minute a bunch of times. just ridiculous. :)

I did my part by buying it last Thursday night, playing until 3AM, and promptly putting it back down in favor of getting my mind blown by Fallout 3.

There's a little bit of backstory available for things like the brotherhood of steel, but nothing that's mandatory to enjoy the story in F3 though.

Ha. Same thing for me. I keep trying to play a little Gears2 but Fallout 3 keeps calling me back. Gears is sweet though.
@SoulBlade
And yea, what they said. But if you do enjoy Fallout3, do yourself a favor and go back and play the first two when you have some time, especially if you enjoy straight RPGs.

2 million? Eh, be prepared for that figure to be destroyed when Blizzard announces the numbers for the new WoW expansion. Burning Crusade sold 2.4 million in 24 hours when they had millions fewer who subscribed.

Cole's been a bit more stereotyped than in the first game, and Dom's had some inconvincing, shoddy drama-acting, but it's an excellent game nevertheless, and an improvement over the first one in everyway, save for the two aforementioned complaints. could be the very game to convince me to shell out $50 for Live Gold, assuming i can get my friends list higher than 3 people who own the game.

@FSK405K
the cheapest one i saw on amazon was $39. it's cheaper, but not necessarily far less. still, the amount wasn't really the issue; the fact that i have to pay at all was. free PSN has been sufficient to sate my online needs, simply because i don't really game online that much as it is. Gears of War 2 (one of the FEW multiplayer games i have) looks to change that though, which is why i'm now contemplating shelling out the cash for Gold.

GOW2 is the SHIT! This is why, IMO of course...
*Horde
*Wingman
*Meatshields
*Snapping meatshields neck (seriously, I dont get tired of doing this)
*Grabbing meatshield, blasting away at another enemy with boltok pistol and pop their heads off. AWESOME!
*The whole campaign is EPIC, music, story, new lighting, graphics, huge environments, boss fights, smoother framerate, texture fade in is not as annoying as pop-in
*New executions
*New lancer and Shotgun sounds
*The fact that I can turn off bad language and gore and my kids can play the campaign together
*The fact that I can set a match up with bots for my kids so they can play some MP without all the crazy people online
*The fact that I can set up a full match with only 5 of my friends and fill the empty spots with bots on insane. The bots usually have the most kills lol
*GOLD FUCKING LANCERS!!! :D
*Chainsaw duels FTMFW! Even seeing another person while spectating getting into one is so fucking sweet!
*The list goes on
For me, all they really need to do to make me 110% satisfied with it is add more specific MP gametypes like Execution only. Speed up the matchmaking process. Tell us exactly how we can rank up and exactly when is the next time we will rank up again. Last is let everyone talk together (dead or alive) at the end of each round. This can be easily patched and Im sure Epic will listen to the fans.
$70.00 well fricken spent

It just gives the games tons of ellipses and broken sentences, which is one of the better ways to censor something like this. "What the..." still works, but the BSG/Firefly method of throwing in other words just calls attention to it being censored.
I had to try it hoping for "Your mom is a classy lady!" to come out at least once. It doesn't.

Yes! Easy to patch, I just hope they don't overlook this when the first update comes out since I don't think it's a big deal to a lot of people, but it is to those of us that play the game with friends.

Btw, I gave Gridlock a shot for Horde and you were right, definitely the best map for it. Day One is probably easier, but it's also not as fun. Gridlock gets insane.
What's the deal with old grenade spawn though? I thought it rotated between boomshield and ink grenade now? Obviously the shield is what we want the most, but it seems like it only shows up there like once every 4 waves or so. A lot of times that spawn spot is just empty.

Im telling you Horde is sooooo much fun on Gridlock since its so small. Seeing all the fire coming from all directions is crazy. I played last night on Casual with just me and one of my buddies and it was like we were playing on Hardcore lol. Got up to Wave 35. As for the shields yeah, you wanna wait till the fat mofos with the flail and shild get close to the sniper tower and takem down so you dont have to wander off far for it.

Yeah, it just gets tough to wait for the maulers when you're on hardcore on levels 38-40 and 48-50, because unless they come alone you just get overrun prior to getting it up, so we like to set it back a few rounds on like level 36 and get our shields set up so we're ready to go when the big guys start coming in the late rounds.

Gridlock is also our favorite stage for Horde mode. The grande spawns in front of where the sniper rifle is there in the middle near the cars. It swaps rounds with the shield. You just have to give it a bit of time to spawn. I like Gridlock mostly because of the boom shot and easily accesible ammo. I agree that day one is easier due to the mortar and hammer of dawm spawning upstairs. I really like the mortar shells.
Can't think of the name of the map but the one with the security lasers where you push the button near the flamethrower to open them. I hate playing that level in Horde with random people because they never push the damn button!
My brother got to level 38 with a group of people which is way better than I have done. With just him and I (two of us) we got to level 13 which felt good. The highest I have been able to get without dying and having a full team was around level 21 or so.
I'm still debating whether it's best to start off with the hammer burst or the lancer. Wish I could just start off without the shotgun and have both. Give me the burst pistol, lancer and hammerburst and I'm good. If I had to rate my favorite extra weapons it would have to be Boomshot, Smiper Rifle, Flame Thrower and Torque Bow. I haven't gotten good enough with the Ink grenades to have them be effective yet.

Another thing that I love...
*All the new dialogue from all the characters during, and at the beginning of each MP round.
"Time to get dirty!" -Marcus Fenix
*Fun Fact*
I do ridiculous Marcus Fenix voice lol. I usually don't do it too much in MP cuz then I got peeps asking me to say this or say that. LMAO!!
"TAKING FIRE!" :P

I agree with gridlock. The map is just perfect for horde. I've had so much fun on it I can't even tell you. Hell, in general, horde is amazingly fun with friends.
And I know you are all gonna bash on me for this but I completed horde on Security with 4 friends on hardcore, lol. It's always fun pullin' straws to see which one of us runs for the button and tries to make it back alive. It's prolly the easiest level for horde, too, since you have easy access to grenades (ink and frag), motor, chaingun, and some form of a wall.

The Elimination Game Mode which consists of Execution, Warzone and Gaurdian gametypes is always pretty fast. So is the Flashback game mode.
Public Horde modes and Players choice playlist takes the longest for me usually. :( Just FYI, that should help :)
