No, by your logic its assuming that pirates physically steal a game from a store.

If you could download, copy and build a Mercedes from the comfort of your own bedroom, then more people would be doing it.

Physical theft and digital theft are yes, both theft, but they have to be treated differently. Physical theft for a start has a far higher risk factor involved due to its very nature.

However, if you have found a way of copying Mercedes let me know as there's a very nice Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S I'd quite like :)

I'll just toss this in, even though it won't change anyone's mind.

Ungained revenue is NOT lost revenue.

If someone doesn't pay for a game but plays it anyway, and would NOT have paid for it in the forst place no matter how cheap, then there is no loss to the manufacturer. Sure, they'd be better off if that person paid before playing, but when NO MONEY was going to come from it anyway, it's just a lie to claim there was one. People enjoy rented games all the time with no further income to the manufacturer (unless the Big Renters give a percentage?) but those people playing without paying the manufacturer is not called a 'loss'. Maybe the renter will buy later? Well, so MIGHT the pirate.

This is the whole problem with selling Intellectual Property. The value is in the experience, and experiences are fleeting. Putting a high value on an experience then crying when someone else gets that experience cheaper or free just gets old.

Hey, I'd like a cut of the experience bucks like making movies, but I'd avoid whining about 'losses' when not everyone having that experience pays full price. Some folks just don't play along...

Just because modded consoles can no longer access Live doesn't help the health of the industry. The modded console can still play illegally acquired games. If this was done for the health of the gaming industry, it miserably fails.

I'd say if you really want to help the industry, remotely & permanently deactivate those modded consoles connected to Live. Then, you're getting somewhere.

"Or just don't go on Xbox Live with your mod."

That seems like the simplest solution for someone wanting to do this.

I don't get it. Why would someone want to burn their games? Wouldn't that make them useless?lol

NEWSFLASH:

most people with modded boxes just see the banning as a nuisance. You can hop on craigslist and sell your modded box w/ games for more than the price of a new xbox. mod that one, and you're back in business. I even know of some people that just do the old wal-mart swap. So, bans are just a temporary thing people. Modders that arent paying for games dont really find the 199$ to buy a new box that much. that's like what 4 games?

So whats your point? Lets give them a freakin medal. I'm sure drug dealers dont find it hard to get more drugs when their supply gets raided, doesn't make them super heros worthy of our praise now does it?

(I woke up moody this morning, lol)

I guess my xbox has been modded...The MS rep hinted at a modded xbox. I've never had a modded box and I don't understand how it happened. I bought the xbox new from BestBuy about 2 years ago. Does anyone have any advice?

it's funny to me cause the only reason any of you is saying you argee is cause you don't know how to mod answer this the mod only allows you to play burned games nothing more nothing less this is just another way for them to make you spend more money on games or buy another 360 then get 60 more dollars for xbox live 14 million custmors times 60 dollors apeice, plus 60 dollars a game vs 40 dollors for 25 disc do the math

Funny thing is that M$ isn't making any money off of the consoles they ban through games nor through XBOX LIVE. If they had any sense, they would realize they are losing even more money by banning modded consoles. Once they ban someone from XBOX LIVE, that's even more money they are losing out on. Hope they are getting their point across. LMAO

Oh yea. One last comment. If there were actually any games out for the 360 that were even worth having XBOX LIVE to play them online with, then I'd be worried about their new ban hammer. That along with the fact if I got a modchip and installed it in my XBOX360. IMO, there are only a couple games, IF EVEN A COUPLE, that are even worth spending any extra money to play through XBOX LIVE. I bought a modchip for my PS2 a while back and it was soooo small and the soldering was sooo intricate that I personally couldn't do it and wasted my money on the modchip. ;{

Fair enough that if people mod their console, they run the risk of getting banned. Personally, i'd like to still be able to buy things in the marketplace (DLC, games, demos etc) but just not be allowed to play online, that way M$ still get money, and it affects the people who r modding to play online.
And i don't play online anyway, just used it for DLC cos the broadband in australia and crap!!
