And nothing of value was lost as long as there's still Team Fortress 2.

In fact it's probably better for the game as a lot of gamers wouldn't even look at it now, but definitely pick it up during the "dry summer season".

In the "dry summer months", I bet some of us will still be working through the million games that have come out this damn holiday season! : (

You know the game's free and operates on a micro-transaction model, right?

I think it'd do alright regardless of the season. Everyone likes "free".

@ Chin-Poh:
True, but I'd still make time for BF Heroes...no matter what.

Since they're ending the closed beta... I would say that Battlefield Heroes could potentially be very successful, as it has a good mixture of being fun, without being too complicated, but with rewarding extended play. Hence I think it will be appealing to casual players, even if it doesn't fully hold the attention of hardcore gamers.

That being said... WHERE IS BATTLEFIELD 3 FOR PC!?

I was invited to the closed beta...it wasn't very fun actually...maybe because it was still in beta but I simply found that the 3rd person aspect of this game and the oversimplified gameplay to cater towards a 'casual PC gamer' wasn't as exciting as I expected. I played the beta for a week then simply forgot about it.

Indeed. It kind of reminded me of that Penny Arcade strip, Gears of Conflict Resolution. You know, with the chainsaw that splattered bunnies and rainbows all over the screen.

The fact is that they took a genre which is hardcore (note, doesn't have to mean fast-paced, I like TF2 precisely because the action is a bit slow), and applied a thick layer of noob-friendliness. As if it was a communist olympics, where everyone is encouraged to get an equal number of kills and there's no possibility of somebody getting totally pwned and ragequitting.

I ended up getting an invite, playing it for one session, and simply went back to COD4.

There's nothing to see here, people, move on. It's a shame, too, as I hoped the game would do well but it doesn't look like it well if it's the same as the beta minus the bugs.

It simply doesn't look that fun. I'll reserve judgement until it's actually out, but from what I've seen it's not impressive.

I played the beta for maybe 3-5 hours before I completely lost interest in the game.

I doubt I will ever play it again.

Anyone who tries to pirate a free game probably deserves a lawsuit in the name of common sense.

I want the next BF3...has everyone all of a sudden forget how amazing BF2 was? I know people are still playing BF2 and 2142 a lot, but I would love to see the BF3 that's surely in the works. Put it out for PC first with a keyboard and mouse inrerface, then they can work on putting out the console versions to keep up with budgets...either that, or come out with an expansion pack that updates BF2's aging textures, lighting, shadowns...etc.etc..Not sure if that's a better more though. The only complaint about BF2 that I had was the lack of destructible environments, which at the time wasn't that popular, but using the new BF Bad Comany engine plus adding some more goodies to it should so the trick.

So many damn fun maps...and speaking of sales and money, BF2 in 2005 sold multiple millions of copies that summer...did tremendously well..so there's obviously a market for it for sure. We did hear about it but then...nothing...oh well, back to Sacred 2...awesome game if anyone's looking for an ARGP with lots of killer loot
