So i played GH world tour last night. I thought it was very boring and just a cheap imitation of what rock band does. Anyone else feel that way?

i think the re-recorded guitar bits in GH:WT are dreadful.

The create a song thing is interesting but fails in the end, since everything sounds crappy in the end.

I don't get what the link to gamerankings is supposed to tell us. And anyways, isn't a forum supposed to be a place for discussion?

Here's my 2 cents: Game scores are pretty meaningless to me. A single number doesn't tell me what kind of experience I'll get out of the game, or if it's my kind of game. These music games I ONLY play with others, and what I've heard from critics is that for a fun group-play experience Rock Band still is king. The gist of IGN and 1UP's webcasts has been "GHWT is a great game, 9/10, but if you just want a great multiplayer experience then go with Rock Band 2."

I mean everything about it from the mix of the songs, to the presentation seemed old and dated. Maybe thats me.

Definitely. I purchased GHWT with an open mind and by the end of the night I was back playing Rock Band.

We did the same thing. It was just more fun.

Happened here too. I tried getting farther in GH:WT another day, but the other people just really hated everything about it, so we had to return to RB.

Can someone give me an honest opinion of which drums are better RB2 or GH?

You would have thought that this would have been done prior to the launch of 2 to help clear the loads of shelf space these take up.

I can't give an opinion on which is more fun to play but bear in mind that GH's seem to be very unreliable at the moment.

Having to spend about two hours on WT and months on RB1 I can tell you that, as someone that plays drums irl, I enjoyed the World Tour drums more...that is, until they stopped working.

The high-hat/splash/crash cymbols feel a bit cheap but it's easier for me to relate to it than RB1. However, if you aren't use to a real set like I am, I'd suggest the RB set. Much more sturdy and most of my friends prefer it over the WT set.

My local CD Warehouse has Rock Band 1 complete bundle for PS3 for only $99.99. I haven't actually bought any Rock Band or GH games yet, so I'm the plastic-toy-instrument-genre equivalent of a noob here...

Is Rock Band 2's toy instruments worth a $90 premium, or do you recommend I jump on the used kit?

The Rock Band 2 drums are much better than the original drum set was. Thats all I can report on. Much quieter, pressure sensetive, and they never miss a hit.

On my original rock band set they would always miss hits.

Honestly a hard call. The RB1 drums had a lot of problems, many had to be returned to EA. $90 gives you piece of mind, no wires and better responsiveness.

I still don't understand why they're wireless though.

Unless you're going for a Neil Peart-style revolving platform (may cause difficulties in keeping your eyes on the TV).

Thanks for all the input gang! I think I'll hold off for the newer instruments and get a RB2 set. If I'm going to jump into these games I should do it right.

The RB1 instruments are fairly sturdy in my experience. I've progressed to Expert Drums (only about 15 songs, though) and they're still working fine, and my guitar has lasted through probably close to 1,000 Expert songs (and, to be honest, about a dozen angry fits when I've failed GG&HT/Shockwave/Painkiller/Visions) and the only problem is that the blue button's a bit sticky and OD only works about 75% of the time.

Your mileage may vary...

Guessing this won't hit the UK, since the RB2 instrument packs are releasing sometime next year while the solus game is hitting our shores this month.

Whatever Guitar Hero's faults may be, at least I can respect their commitment to a simultaneous global release.

Not cheap enough. Once you use the RB2 guitar, you'll never want to use the RB1 one again. And I'm not just talking about cordless, since PS3 guitars were cordless on RB1 too. The improved flipper and (finally!) reliable tilt sensor make a world of difference. And the protective ring around the start button is great too.

Why would anyone buy the Wii version of Rock Band 1 at this point? Harmonix actually put effort into 2

Total: $150

you know, ive always been a fan of Guitar Hero and Rock Band but have never actually bought either of them. im pretty set on Rock Band 2 if im getting anything but i was just curious as to if it's better on 360 or PS3? i read this site alot so i see alot of 'this controller doesnt work with this or vice a versa'. which version, 360 or PS3, gives the best all around experience?

360 tends to have more controller compatibility, and since it's the console that has sold more there'll be more online. However, I think you have to create a 360 profile for each band member in world tour, whilst the PS3 version simply has in-game 'character' profiles.

I have it on the PS3, but there's not a lot of difference.

Does this mean the price of the standalone instruments will go down too?

Concur w/ matt on Wii price drop..

For a c-note, you get RB1 & a full band kit that will for sure run w/ RB2.

Was waiting to hear confirmation of GH instruments for Wii. For $100, I can just get the RB1 set & get the RB2 disc once it drops. Not too shabby.

i'm personally very thankful that the drums are wireless, because i put them away on top of my bureau after playing, to keep my baby sister from coming into the room and bashing them into oblivion.
