Wow. This list is horribly lame. Most of these picks are for things that are just big names. I mean, honestly... How come Braid only got nominated in Indie GotY? Soundtrack on that is amazing.

And where the hell is Castle Crashers for Co-Op game? Lost Odyssey doesn't make RPG of the year consideration? Or even Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 for RPG or Handheld GotY? N+?

All I can say is no actual gamers(people who play 10+ hours a week) had any say in what was nominated here. This list is retarded.

Ugh, videogame awards are so arbitrary.

I like how Pacific Rift is absent, yet Pure isn't.

Game of the year: I'm cheering for LBP.

Best graphics: I'd like to see LBP win. I'm sick of gray graphics and uncanny-valley characters.

Best original score: I think Pixeljunk Eden should have been nominated, at least?

Interesting to see Spore nominated for only one award. Spore-mania has already fizzled out. Everyone I knew who bought it has moved on to other games already.

How in the hell is Fable II not in the best original score or best soundtrack nominees? That's equivalent to Marty O'Donnell or Koji Kondo not being nominated. Spike proved their irrevalence last year by giving awards involving Mountain Dew. And how can Crysis have the best graphics if no one has the PC to run it is beyond me. The failure to give Halo 3 decent awards was so pathetic, I lost what ever faith I had in Spike.

Now get back to showing Bond reruns like you're supposed to.

Good list this year. Serves as a reminder of all the great games we got in 2008. And if Wii Music wins best music game I swear I'm gonna punch a kitten.

I think their should be a category for best graphics relative to console specs. I mean, a Wii game can look 100X better than all other Wii games, but a sub-par 360/PS3 game will look infinitely better than it. It should depend on how much it maxes out the consoles power... that's a big accomplishment for any developer.

If that were the case, something like Final Fantasy 4 or The World Ends With You would have a chance on that list.

This award show is important as the amount of stars you receive for your comments here on joystiq.

This is going to sound awfully PC Elitist, but they essentially lost all credibility by not having Crysis Warhead in the Best Graphics list. I'm not saying the other entries look terrible (I think they each look great), but none of them hold a candle to Warhead at all High or Very High settings.

why the hell is Mortal Kombat vs DC on there when it's not even released yet.. makes no sense. I bet this is gonna be a gears of war 2/GTA 4 takeover. Spike tv sucks

Awards like this do nothing for the video games industry, these awards have no credibility what so ever. The list looks as if it was compiled by some executive sitting in his pretty office that never plays games of any sort let alone video games. spike or whatever there called so give up and stop waisting peoples time.

You know which category I hate, best sound track. Sure, Rock Band and guitar hero have great songs. All songs that had been made several years ago. Seriously, how is any game suppose to given compete when you have every top 1 song for the last 20 years in your game? Not to mention, I would think that this would imply music made FOR THE GAME.

What is wrong with you people. The graphics suck on gears of war 2. Plus there is so many glitches on it. It is just sad. And the achievements are so easy to get besides seriously 2.0, but who wants so spend over a year or more on a game to just get 50gamerscore added to your account. That is just stupid. It should be worth over 300g. Anyways Resistance 2 and MGS4 has the best graphics and shooters and best online play, and hardly any glitches. So i think resistance 2 should be nominated for best graphics and game of the year also. But msgs4 has it in the bag anyways. Timesplitters 4 is going to get game of the year next year or best shooter. :)
