Another Friday, another Burnout Paradise DLC announcement. It looks like Criterion is expanding the game yet again in 2009, with a new series of vehicles in their planned "Toy Cars" pack. This expansion will add a number of interesting cars to the Burnout franchise, such as a monster truck. Simon Phipps from Criterion Games notes on the PlayStation.blog: "We hope you agree that we're keeping up our promise to take Burnout Paradise into places you'd never imagined."
There's still more DLC to be announced in the coming weeks. By the end of 2009, we're pretty sure Burnout Paradise will be a completely different game. Wow.

This is getting to the point where I'm questioning whether they're rocking a sound business plan.

this mean that they won't be bringing out a new burnout for a while?
plus what are the prices of the dlc, any ideas?

I hope they have a completely different team working on the next Burnout at the same time.
IDK about the price but I'm not paying it. The free updates were kind of cool but I'm glad I didn't pay for them either.
I'm honestly starting to get a little tired of Burnout Paradise. I only put it in to play road rages now. The races and burning routs were broken to begin with because of the open world aspect of it. The showtime events were fun for a bit but I really miss the explosive and thought provoking crash junctions. Showtimes lack any sort of climax.
I don't by any means regret buying Burnout P but I'm done with it (why I'm glad I didn't download the whole thing)and I do wish they'd make a next gen version of Takedown or Revenge rather than continuing to beat this dead horse.

@ Gonzo
I can't disagree more. I have both Takedown and Revenge and Paradise is a 100% improvement over those games (which were both good). I found it totally tedious to go from event to results screen to loading screen to map to loading screen to event, ad infinitum. The basic gameplay was awesome, but the organization was horrendous. Also, I hated having to play other modes just to unlock Road Rage events.
I will say this about Paradise, though: there should have been Crash events at some intersections and the races should have been round trips, so that you finished near the starting point.

So how much is THIS going to be? I mean how many paid add-on packs will they release? At the $5 price? So then when should one expect to have paid enough for another full game?

True. I wonder how much the stand-alone island DLC slated for 2009 is going to cost. That's basically a new game.

Criterion is a fantastic developer. i saw Burnout Paradise on Amazon and NewEgg for $20 a few weeks back but it sold out quick.
now that theyve announced even more DLC, if i see it drop to that price again, im picking it up.

with the party mode and this update, it really looks like they are trying to expand their fan base by appealing to people that like "cute" cars and flashy pretty colors...(casual gamers and females).
besides being deformed, do the toy cars series handle differently i wonder?

First of all, notice that the cars above in the pic are "toy car" versions of their counter parts already in Burnout... the Carson G for example. And the "monster truck" you are all getting excited about... just the Takedown 4x4 with a slightly different look. I haven't read anything from Criterion that says they are adding monster trucks, so don't get your hopes up on that one. And one final thought... so they are charging us for updates from here on out... but they also announced another disc edition to the game that will have different box art, come with the first free updates and include the first paid update (party play)... but is that going to retail for the same original price that we paid a year ago? I mean if they still charge the same price as before, then people buying the game later will get the first $$$ update for free while all of us loyal fans from the start will have to pay for it? Hmm, hope they charge extra for the "special edition"
