Family. Family is a beautiful and precious thing in all its many forms. It gives a sense of love and belonging in an otherwise hostile world. The smile of your child, the eyes of your lover, the loving embrace of a parent. Family. Go and enjoy yours while you can because time takes away all things.
Oh yeah, a World of Warcraft player named Nymh, on EU server Drek'thar, has hit the new level 80 cap in the expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, within a day. For those who don't know what that means, it basically involves tapping a keyboard, staring at a monitor and rubbing your mouse around for way too long.
Now, go get some hugz.

This is the reason why Blizzard decided to remove the special titles that players would have received for being the first to hit level 80 - despite their lust for global dominance, they don't want to encourage this type of game play.

I guess we should congratulate "Nymh" on the best thing he'll ever do.

Remember everyone, no girl actually plays World of Warcraft. Sure, we can hope maybe one day, but as of now, there is not one.

Hey, If the guy has a little extra time to spare then so be it. It's crazy how someone can play ONE game for so long though.

This is disturbing.
I can only hope he/she does not make this sort of gaming behaviour a habit.

If he's on the EU servers, they have been live since Wednesday. So he had 2 days to get to 80. Not that unbelievable, since a co-worker of mine got 2 levels with casual play after one night. It's all about staying focused.

Your ability to tell time and subsequently calculate it is amazing. Since the article was posted yesterday ... he took future hours to accomplish this?

Having played a fairly heavy (for me) session last night, I can confidently say your coworker did not play "casually" if he/she got 2 levels in one night.

Joystiq,
Some guy plays a game that he really enjoys and your response is to basically call him a loser? Let's not forget that this is a video gaming blog. There's no reason to vilify someone for playing a video game, not here. All you are doing is alienating a potential reader.

Yeah, there is.
There is such a thing as unhealthy video game playing.
Spnding too much time doing anything is bad.

Yeah, that bugged me too, and I don't even play WoW anymore. There is nothing more pitiful when one gamer calls another gamer a loser. This smacks more or jealousy than anything else, if you ask me.
And all things considered, if its such a "crime" to be into a game this much then shouldn't it be a good thing that he managed this in a day instead of slaving at it for weeks?

And oh look, in the time it took me to type that he was voted down.
Oh well, par for the course I suppose.

This guy is taking it to a WHOLE nother plateau. It is more about how disturbing his priorities may be.
This is a very sick way to play video games and I dont know why you guys can't see that.

Seriously, this person needs to go outside...sunlight helps the body process Vitamin D, and exercise helps the body continue all of its natural processes much more easily. This level of gaming is unhealthy, and that's coming from someone who would've called constant gaming of this level "cool" about 10 years ago.

why do you have to attack the guys priorities? It took away 1 day from his life. How many days have all of us wasted dicking around or doing nothing?

Congrats to he/she/it.
I have yet to touch WOW, and this is why. I don't know about anyone else, but I like to urinate and defecate like a normal person. I can't keep a bucket next to my computer.
I'm sure Wrath of the Lion King is very popular.

FANTASTIC! I've never played WoW and never will since I can't stand PC games, but I am insanely jealous. I would LOVE that kind of time to play games, get this freaking October/November pile knocked down to manageable size.

Can't stand PC Games? Why can't people keep their Anti-PC Gaming bias out of articles on this site? This is why I visit shacknews more. How can you hate PC games or the PC when your favorite consoles are PC's themselves.

Whoa! Settle down there pal. I don't like PC Games because I don't like having to spend 800 bucks for a motherboard and another 300 for a video card just so I can play a Vista game rated 5.0... it's not bias, just my personal opinion.

Yea, basically he had a pocket healer and mage out of group. He would tag the mob and then move on to another while the others killed it for him....So not only did 1 person do this, all 3 did.
congrats i guess. I'll take my time and level at a healthy pace

I totally do not get the whole World of Warcraft thing. Having never played I won't cast aspersion upon those who do, but I figure it's either 1) as addictive as crack cocaine laced with heroin and hot chocolate, or 2) the people who it consumes really have nothing better to do, or 3) a combination of both. I figure it's more like number one than anything- but blind obsession with anything is often a symptom of something that cries out for counseling. Unless that obsession is hot Brazilian women.

But if the Brazilian women give you The Herp, is it then considered unhealthy?

Yeah, that's why you make sure you have the herp before hittin that.

After reading about people dying after MMO marathons, I can't help but feel that this was extremely unhealthy for said person.

I play once a week and sometimes get to play twice in a week, but a couple of times a year when one of my favorites comes out I go on a 12-15 hour bender... Halo2, Halo3, Gears 1 and 2. I just plan for it like I would most other things. To me, it isnt much different than going on an overnight hunt or fishing trip. The key is to schedule more events with my family than I do my xbox.

I'm not completely innocent...me and a group of about 10 buddies have been playing Halo(1,2,3) once a week on Tuesdays for more than 5 years now. I make it up to everyone at home by cooking dinner on thursday night and watching a movie with them. Last night was spaghetti and kung fu panda...good times.
