Video: Winning a chainsaw duel in Gears 2
42
With the addition of the button smashing chainsaw duels in Gears of War 2, we've always wondered what the best strategy is for rapid B button tapping. Thanks to Chris Paladino and the Gamerscore Blog, we now have chainsaw duel strategy tips and tricks from the Epic crew. Personally, we agree with Cliff's caffeine consumption strategy that makes one's reflexes extra twitchy. Though, never tried the the clicky pen trick or the pinkie slide. But they don't sound too useful.

As a lifelong gamer, I've developed a spasm-like, rapid fire button press.
I'll rarely lose :)

Same here.. I move my left hand over (I'm left handed) and mash the button about 15-20 times a second with my index finger.. I've only lost once and that was because I was shot from behind.

jcarpio biggest noob excuse ever, they need to patch the game and bring back stunning and temporary disabling of chainsaw while getting shot. in lag it is impossible to stop someone from coming at you because they shake off the bullets and keep it revved.
they also need to patch the reaction time for proxy grenades on walls. it is completely unfair in lag that greandes explode before you even reach them due to the unreal engine predicting your location when running, even if you know its there and dive backwards when hearing the beep.

I, for one, welcome more people trying to chainsaw rather than use the shotgun like in GoW1

How can you agree with a guy who just said he welcomes the chainsaw and then go on to say it encourages you to take cover. What the hell?
Not it doesn't - It encourages you to run at the rival team like a retard pressing B cause for fuck knows what reason Epic are retards and decided to make it so shooting at a reved up chainsaw doesn't always down it.
They've noobed the entire game up, the only ones pleased at this are the ignorant bunch that seem to think Gears 1 was shotgun only.
The same people that still don't seem to realize shotgun with chance of winning>chainsaw which will one hit you unless you drop to his level and use the chainsaw as well.
Wtf.

I don't think you're playing the same game Sadistic >_> You cant run and gun in this game.. stopping power changed everyone's strategy.

I agree with Sadistic here, they took Gears' original multiplayer and raped it from all angles. Whether Gears' original MP was intended to play as it did or not, there was no denying just how amazing it was, partly due to its simplicity and lack of a single auto-win weapon, and they should have kept that going...
People say that it had no teamwork, no, their team had to teamwork. To do well in Gears you had to play as a team, not just rush in and shotgun...

What are you talking about? Of course they had a two auto-win weapons. Shotgun and active Longshot.

I cant believe people think this is actually decided over live by anything other than a 50/50 coin toss.
Seriously, its 100% luck. You could have the fastest turbo controller user in the world versus somebody who only presses the button once, and you could still lose.
Its probably more accurately metered and counted over a local matchup, but over Live, no. Its 100% a coin toss.
Sorry to have to be the one to break it to you, but give your fingers a rest. You're not going to be more likely to win, no matter how hard you rub those tubby little stumps over the B button.

Really now? So why is it that I've never lost ONE out of the FORTY+ that I've done? Oh no no.. it's because of luck! Yup! I have a 50/50 chance of winning.. and I won all 40 times.
Please.. go fail somewhere else. Did you ever think that it can actually count how many times you press the button? Or is technology still made of sticks and stones for you?

I bet you.. that if I pressed the B button once, I would lose every time.. I BET YOU. Because I press the B button a LOT and I've lost.. maybe 2-3 times.

Not to mention this sort of thing has been done in many games and ALWAYS worked.. what in God's name makes you think that EPIC GAMES couldn't pull such a simple feature off? Or is it that you lose every time? Ever think that you just aren't good at it?

nah dude i dont think you're right on this one. the window for the b button presses registering must be very small though, so you gotta get your reaction time fast rather than setting up the controller and pressing it a lot of times after the fact. it must send the button presses to the person you're dueling basically right when they start yelling. why not hook up 2 controllers and test it out, youll see what i mean.

Total bullshit, there is no luck in button pressing competition if you don't slip the finger or something. And for a player with turbo button to lose he or she has to have over 500 ping or something.
I have won 5 times and lost around 20 times so I kind of hate chainsaw duels and it would be better if it was some button combination competition instead for pressing.

i agree.. multiplayer is really stupid. I'm not complaining about the guns. The whole "we'll pick a match for you, then we'll tell you what game mode you're gonna play (on public matches)" is extremely stupid.
The worst part is it usually takes like 20 minutes for the game to even find players for you to play with. It drives me ape-shits! Take 20 minutes to start a game then I'm forced to play a game mode that i don't like?
*sigh* awesome game though.

As a Super Tecmo Bowl hall of famer- the "A" button skillz are now in my DNA. There is no 50/50 chance- I will win every chainsaw duel.

His girl friend? Cause yea, shes hot.
But yea, I think they shouldn't have put chainsaw duels in the first place. When it comes down to it, it depends on who has the faster connection.

NO-IT-DOESN'T.. are people butt hurt that they suck at this feature of the game? My connection is horrible sometimes and I've walked away from at least 40 chainsaw duels out of like 45 dammit.
Seriously.. excuses excuses.

Toro: It was a joke. I didn't know you have a man-crush on Cliffy and when I made a joke you would swoop in to defend him. Loser...
And if you're talking about that skank who he dated that did Playboy then I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm embarrassed to know even this little bit about Cliff so I'll stop.

Chainsaw duels are still damn random. Sometimes someone who hasn't even reved their chainsaw gets into chainsaws duels and often it seems like the person with the better connection in the game wins the duel, regardless of who actually taps B the fastest.

I had that happen but I had my chainsaw out and another guy still cut me, the duel didn't even occur.
They need to fix these bugs, and change the duel to 50% button presses and 50% 50/50. You know people are going to use controllers with turbo buttons.

I was in a duel that after the duel started the guy broke out of the duel some how and walked over and chainsawed me even when I was holding B. I think there may be a glitch he knows.

This whole feature of the game is lost to me. I never use the lancer so I don't get in chainsaw duels I don't even have the crossed swords achievement yet.
I am a great button masher but I also know that the sound of a duel attracts people, people like me who wait for two idiots to stand still defenseless begging to be shot.
