Took this long? I thought the 360 had done this already.

ok, i will admit i have a PS3 and not 360, so I am oblivious towards the answer of the question i'm about to ask. I'm not trolling, just curious (AKA, Gears 2 looks sick, ya'll can stream netflix, etc. etc., sucking up out of the way.)

what does xbox stand for? and why did it move 360 degrees, to its original starting point?

i will gently kiss whoever answers best!!!!!

Xbox originally stood for DirectX-Box, which Microsoft was trying to promote with the original, and no I do not know why it moves around in a circle >_>

Originally Microsoft said they called it 360 because they wanted it to cover all aspects of entertainment (beyond gaming). All 360 degrees of it. The real reason is because they didn't want to put xbox 2 up against PS3. Having a lower number makes it sound inferior.

The reason it is called 360 is because it represents a complete revolution.. meaning a whole new look on gaming.

Actually the name xbox has more of its roots in windows circles... you know that little x that you close out programs. Its called the Xbox... its an homage to the fact that microsoft made the console.

@tojfs7931:
have no idea where you you got that bit of misinformation, but you can the real reason why anywhere. as stated above:
"The Xbox was originally named DirectXbox, as it was initially designed to show how Microsoft's Direct X graphics technology could benefit the console market."

idiot.

I am sure the reason the 360 has sold so many this far is because people are buying systems to replace the ones that are broken. I'm on my 4th 360.

Then you my friend need to buy from Best Buy.
$40 for a 2 year in-store hardware exchange. That where I purhcased my 360. I got the GPU ring after having it for 7 months. Went straight back to the store and exchanged it for a brand new one right off the shelf. There was only about 25 minutes of "non-play" time between the ring and the new system.

Are you so rich that you don't even bother with warranties or something?

I got that too mine was 60 bucks but since my 360 was like 400 when i got it they let me give them 50 bucks and I got an Elite. Seriously the best 40-60 bucks you will ever spend.

You're a complete idiot. 360 consoles come with a mandatory 1 year warranty, and a 3 year rrod warranty.

Do you just like burning your mothers money?

Actually I have used my warranty. When my 3rd 360 started going bad, I traded up to an Elite. Once my Elite died(disc drive died), I said screw it and just bought a 360 Arcade just to have a back up while my Elite gets sent out. I was stating a fact that alot of people are buying backup systems just in case their main 360 dies...which it eventually will. I also have a PS3, Wii and a job!!

He's right though, they do have to take into account all the re bought Xboxes, no matter the circumstances they were re bought.
I'm about to get mine back for optical drive failure, which conveniently goes bad when the machine is out of the 1 year warranty; I know at least 2 other people this has happened to as well.
I don't know how many of the 25 million are re buys, but I'm sure it is at least enough to alter the numbers.

You're thinking of the PS2. Seems like everyone has bought two or three of them to replace them as they break. If the 360 has a problem people send it to Microsoft for repair.

360 stands for the reach around you got for the rrod before ms admitted it was a problem.

I got a 360 in '05 and it went rrod 4 months later. This is back when the warranty was 90 days. MS basiclly told me to piss off, so I fired off a couple of letters, like a lot of people did, and finally they extended the warranty to a year. Then, rrod was so wide spread, ms had to make the warranty 3 years. You know they found this issue in testing, and did nothing to stop it. It's tainted the 360 as a gaming console.

360 degrees are the number of degrees in a complete circle.

For example, a RED circular RING...of death.

But ROD is only 270'.. only 3 quadrants...

I bourght an Elite while my Pro was in for disc read failiure.. the console they sent back got sold on.. counts as 2 installed.. when I update my Elite when I know it'll be newer hardware model, I'll sell the Elite on, too..

Sony Fanboys are quick to mention RROD, I personally have never managed to get it, and I have put the hours in daily over the last 2 years.. Do Sony fanboys forget about how many PS2's they owned.. one friend had owned 4, another her 2nd by 11months after buying her first, bith because the things broke.. though I never bothered with PS2,I did have 3 different of the grey PSones

Is there any Idea to an estimation of how many gamers there are in the world?
