The Killers DLC also coming to Rock Band Music Store
The spirit of competition between Activision and Harmonix's respective rhythm franchises is still very much alive and well -- shortly after Activision announced that a trio of tunes from post-punk darlings The Killers would be making their way onto Guitar Hero: World Tour as DLC, MTV let it slip to Wired that they would be adding their own Killers triple-pack to the Rock Band Music Store on the very same day (Nov. 25). Man, what a bizarre coincidence!
Two of the three songs which are about to be thrust into Harmonix's already intimidating music library are relative oldies: "Mr. Brightside" and "Smile Like You Mean It" -- but a title from the Killers' new album, Day & Age, will also make an appearance: "Spaceman". The article on Wired mentioned nothing of pricing details -- though it's probably safe to assume they'll match the $2.00 (160
) per song/ $5.50 (440
) per pack price point we've all come to know and love over the past year.

Ugh.. if there was one song I couldn't stand on RB1..
MarkHawk @ Nov 15th 2008 12:37PM
Like we haven't heard that before. Be orignal.
Bowser the Baptist @ Nov 15th 2008 11:40AM
Enough of the Wii Music/Rock Band/Guitar Hero posts, please. This is a games blog, not some Dr Seuss, Mother Goose, button-bash-off.
JJ Rooster @ Nov 15th 2008 11:42AM
Too bad, bitch, it sells!
I appreciate the posts Joystiq.
j.howlett @ Nov 15th 2008 3:11PM
that's a great, thought out response
yo @ Nov 15th 2008 11:43AM
this is good news, rock band > guitar hero
tooPrime @ Nov 15th 2008 12:07PM
Okay, so for some reason I wrote his frustrated rant. Don’t take it personally, it’s more of a reaction to these posts in general.
Alright, I’m done with this! Objectively speaking, the games are borderline the same. Honestly, I think that one guy was right; you’re all secret online marketers. Why are you people compelled to say Rock Band is better on every freaking post vaguely related to Rock Band. Just stop it. There was a bunch of posts bashing the Jimi Hendrix DLC. Most people would be soiling their armor, or at least be neutral if Rock Band got that, however because it was in Guitar Hero it was like some knife in the chest. There is something wrong with you people. Harmonix is not a saintly game company spreading music to the world. Alex Rigopoulos is rubbing his nipples with $100 bills right now.
kavendano14 @ Nov 15th 2008 12:11PM
I think it's the fact that the guitar hero franchise stopped growing after harmonix left and where rock band started. And yeah that is what happens when you milk a franchise, people bitch nonstop because they actually deserve it.
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 15th 2008 12:18PM
Don't bitch. Have fun. After all, isn't that why we play?
Haggard @ Nov 15th 2008 1:00PM
Rock Band is just far better designed, balanced and is more fun to play. I'll probably buy GH:WT at some point, but it just doesn't hook me in the same way.
VaultICEE @ Nov 15th 2008 2:41PM
The reason why I'm excited for Rock Band DLC over GH DLC is because Rock Band actually looks like love was put into it... unlike Guitar Hero's horrible display. I just can't get over how ugly it looks, and not only that but I hate the way they chart songs. It's gotten a lot better in WT, I'll admit, but its still nowhere as good as I'd like it to be.
I'm happy for Guitar Hero fans that they get DLC, but I just don't think that music completely makes the game. Crap with good music in it is still crap. Or something.
yo @ Nov 16th 2008 12:45AM
To too prime, i own both rock band and guitar hero wt the only reason i said what i said is because rock band is a far superior game, guitar hero felt like it was put together in minutes and its just messy at times, and seriously calm down. Lifes too short to be going crazy on someones comment on a damn webpage get outside and get some air it'l' do u well.
Nick8708 @ Nov 16th 2008 9:18AM
Have to agree with Vault and yo. I was thinking of picking up the WT disc eventually, since I already have RB 1 and 2, but after playing it at Best Buy this past week I was pretty bummed. The presentation in RB is a whole lot better, not just in terms of looks (RB there was set up on a 360, GH on a PS3), but also in execution. The gameplay is very similar, yes, but it's the details that make the difference. Now if you are comfortable with either and are making a decision based on track lists and DLC...that's another story (my personal preference would still lean towards RB, but I'm a classic rock junkie and, say, if the GH franchise scores Zeppelin tracks before RB (if anybody ever does :-/ ) I'll be singing a different tune :) )
I'm glad that Guitar Hero exists for the fact that the competition will incense Harmonix to keep on their toes.
For the record, I do not work for Harmonix, but I would love to.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 15th 2008 11:46AM
They need somebody told me.
Kelly @ Nov 15th 2008 3:45PM
They need a full killers album IMO
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 15th 2008 12:17PM
Wish they'd release the same songs on both....now I have to Guitar Hero and Rock Band.... *sigh*
MowDownJoe @ Nov 15th 2008 12:21PM
They share Mr. Brightside. You don't have to buy both game's packs.
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 15th 2008 12:50PM
Opps...I meant buy both games.
JDRE_124 @ Nov 15th 2008 5:54PM
Fuck YES! Spaceman is easily my favorite song of there new album Day and Age and Mr. Brightside and Smile Like You Mean it are just icing on the Killer's three pack cake.
Fernando Rocker @ Nov 15th 2008 12:26PM
Are really people excited about this band?
jc29ex @ Nov 15th 2008 12:30PM
Uh, yeah man. Get this: Some people like this band. I for one an excited to play Brightside and Spaceman on Rock Band.
brandon_r87 @ Nov 15th 2008 12:50PM
The only album I have of their's is Hot Fuss, but I have to say that it's very good besides Mr. Brightside and Somebody Told Me. Most of their fans love those songs, but I just don't enjoy them that much. All These Things That I've Done is my favorite. Forget the stuff that the radio plays, they have better music.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Nov 15th 2008 2:47PM
It has to appeal to the mass-market, ain't that right?
Rooster752 @ Nov 15th 2008 3:18PM
I don't care about the killers, but i hate when people post on threads like this saying 'x band sucks' or 'why are you excited.' I'm not buying it, but the killers are popular and I understand why its there. The more DLC the better as far as I'm concerned. Now where is my queens of the stone age track pack 2? hmmmm?
Sackolantern PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Nov 15th 2008 4:37PM
Fernando -
I know this is a crazy concept but everyone has different tastes in music.
Kia @ Nov 15th 2008 12:37PM
Where the hell is All These Things That I've Done?! Get on the ball, RB, GH, whichever! -Someone-! Of all the Killers songs to leave out, why this one!?
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 15th 2008 12:51PM
That song would have a crazy vocal part. I can see everyone in the room going "I got soul, but I'm not a soldier!"
Fernando Rocker @ Nov 15th 2008 12:55PM
Good vocals would be something like Steelheart, David Coverdale or Ronnie James Dio... not from "The Killers"...
Kia @ Nov 15th 2008 12:55PM
Fernando, you're a Wii addict. I think you're hardly in a place to be talking about anyone -else's- tastes.
Fernando Rocker @ Nov 15th 2008 1:00PM
Say the guy who is a WoW addict...
j.howlett @ Nov 15th 2008 1:11PM
i think i read that fernando plays RB almost everyday on his cousins ps3
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 15th 2008 1:14PM
All in all it's about fun. "All These Things That I've Done" would be F U N. I never compared the vocals of the Killers to Dio, in fact I never commented on the quality of the Killer's vocals, I simply commented on the vocal part of the song were you to play in in RB/GH. And what you consider "good" vocals is all relative. Personally I think Dio has "great" vocal chops. :P
jc29ex @ Nov 15th 2008 1:14PM
You're being ignorant, Fernando. Everyone has their own opinion on every band. Don't bash a good band just because you don't dig them.
ELUNO @ Nov 15th 2008 1:39PM
Considering that Fernando said that the Beatles were super overrated, I think that it's safe to assume that his opinion here isn't valid.
Kia @ Nov 15th 2008 2:02PM
@ Fernando
First off, I'm a woman. *shock* Secondly, I've been playing WoW for 3 years and haven't even played long enough to get a mount yet. Yep, total addict right here.
Anyway, my point stands. The fact remains that the song would be -fun-. Every single part of the song would be fun, never mind the fact that, yes, it's a sure bet -everyone- would join in on the interlude.
Jerk Face @ Nov 15th 2008 5:33PM
Fernando, we're bros, right? But using Ronnie James Dio in a sentence defining good vocals is just ridiculous. : )
Not that I'm a big Killers fan, mind you. Just saying.
Eh @ Nov 16th 2008 1:18AM
Because Rock Band always manages to leave out a bands most popular songs. They must do it on purpose.
Riggy469 @ Nov 26th 2008 1:13PM
@Fernando
Man, you really come across like a complete child almost every time I see you post. Grow up.
Brandon Flowers FTW! Now give us Sam's Town, damn it!
Miles @ Nov 15th 2008 1:27PM
I wish I were one of those guys who hated any band that didn't have their first debut single from at least 15 years ago. Then I could really feel like a true music aficionado. Because then I could be so narrow minded, I'd believe anything not with a 45 second guitar solo is basically a Britney Spears song.
Fuck that, go Harmonix for mixing it up.
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Nov 15th 2008 1:40PM
Freeird ftw!
FSK405K @ Nov 15th 2008 1:58PM
45-seconds? No, too short. Anything without a two-minute guitar solo is hard to enjoy.
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Nov 15th 2008 2:01PM
Freeird? lol
Mimglow @ Nov 15th 2008 1:41PM
This is great news. Hopefully it means we get All These Things That I've Done soon.
Shaun Cooke @ Nov 15th 2008 2:01PM
More The Killers is always welcome.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Nov 15th 2008 2:19PM
Spaceman was so fucking awesome. My favorite Killers song to date.
VaultICEE @ Nov 15th 2008 2:44PM
I think I'm the one person who liked Sam's Town better than Hot Fuss, but these are some my favorites from their debut album. Spaceman is pretty nice too.
I'm looking forward to this :)
Makeseven @ Nov 16th 2008 4:47PM
you are not the only one. hot fuss was a great album, i truely love it. But i do feel sam's town was better from start to finish. it also had more meaning. the lyrics really meant something on sam's town.
this is not my ideal trackpack for the killers, but i havent heard a song by them i don't like so any killers is great for me. Smile Like you mean it seems like an odd choice. good song, but not as good as some others from hott fuss, and not that big of a single.
spaceman is a freaking awesome song! i like human, but i have no idea why they chose it for the first single from Day & Age.
hopefully this will sell really well so that we can get all these things that i've done, read my mind, bling, or even maybe a song or two from Sawdust.
Ceejay @ Nov 15th 2008 3:53PM
Needs more sams town.
zombiejesus @ Nov 15th 2008 3:51PM
All These Things I've Done plzzzzzzz
bongboy64 @ Nov 15th 2008 4:16PM
Def agree with Ceejay, more Sam's town! This River is Wild is one of my favs. A few of their B-sides from Sawdust would be nice too, I think someone mentioned Tranquilize in the other thread. But yes, All These Things That I've Done would be the ultimate fun Killers song.
