No, dear readers, we're not charging you for entry to this particular post (though we do hear that subscription-based content is the wave of the future) -- the price we speak of is an intangible one, but a costly one nonetheless. After the break, we've posted a behind-the-scenes look at Jerry Bruckheimer's first foray into game-to-movie adaptations, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time -- a look which is offered through the mind-numbing lens of Entertainment Tonight. So if you want to get a look at the film's impressive backdrop (which, according to Bruckheimer, is of Lawrence of Arabia quality), you're going to have to sacrifice a few of your lesser-used mental faculties. Seriously, if you have any important long division to do today, we suggest skipping ahead.

Okay, people, note the irony. They're filming Prince of PERSIA in MOROCCO.

Where's the irony? The two locations have vastly similar landscapes, and architecture and culture similar enough for your average American.

Movies get filmed in the wrong countries all the time. Heck, even feature TV shows do. You think they're gonna go to exactly the right country which most viewers couldn't tell the difference between, when they could go to one where filming would be far cheaper?
Why do you think some of the greatest films set in America are 'Spaghetti' Westerns?

It's like when they filmed movies about the Vietnam war in Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia... for the longest time. The only people who'd notice is those who are familiar with the locals.

Oh come on. Even the German Castle in Indiana Jones 3 was filmed in Scotland. And let's not forget Tatooine - you think they've done it on a real Desert Planet?
They could've done a lot worse than Marroco, as I've been there myself and parts of it are probably as close to the general perception of "Persia" as it can get...

Finally, someone who will understand my woes! How could Peter Jackson disservice J.R. Tolkien by filming in New Zealand! That's nowhere even close to middle-earth!

It would be fine to film in other locations if the title was anything except "Prince of Persia", but doing so with that title is like if they had filmed "Mr. Smith Goes to Washigton" in any state capital that looks similar, and arguing it was "close enough".

Now, now, it's not the movies fault most people can't tell The Arecibo Telescope for a "Secret Base in Cuba". Or Bayamon, PR for freakin' Iraq.

It always bothered me that a great many American movies and TV shows are filmed in Canada. I know Canada looks exactly like the US, it's just that many Americans actually think of Canada as something alien or foreign, yet almost everything they see on film is actually Canada. It really blows my mind.

Maybe I misunderstood, (I'm not sitting through that garbage again to find out) but I think that they are filming on location in northern Africa. It is the soundstage REPLICA that is of Morocco, which I don't belive is irony per se, but is ridiculous, as they could have just made a REPLICA of PERSIA.

It's good.
If the film turns out to suck, the video game community won't be penalized for the bad project and other game-to-film projects can step forward without the bad publicity.
If in some way the film is actually good, then more projects based on games will be greenlighted and more importantly, games can begin to be placed on a pedestal akin to novels by the general public as sources for excellent writing and story-telling.
I'm hoping the media and marketing downplays the films connection to the games if for no other reason than what I just listed.

The guy playing the prince, Jake G. is a very good actor, so hopefully it will be alright. :)

Eh.. eh eh eh...
Not looking great, but I didn't have any expectations anyway. I don't like how they seem to be going for comedy in the scene he's being attacked by the girl (forget her name).

It's a Jerry Bruckheimer movie. It's going to be exactly the same as every other Jerry Bruckheimer movie ever made, except instead of cars or pirates, it will be brown people with curved swords. There. I just saved you 12$.
