Treat your eyes to these MadWorld screenshots
Seriously, your eyes have been through a lot lately -- all-night gaming marathons, subjection to Repo! The Genetic Opera, possible self-gouging as a result of subjection to Repo! The Genetic Opera -- don't you think they've deserved a little positive visual stimulus? We're happy to deliver this to you in the form of some new screenshots from Platinum Games' stylish, carnage-filled action title, MadWorld. They may lack the brownish hues and bloom lighting we've come to expect from current-gen titles, but despite these deficits, we're sure you can find something to gleefully ogle in the gallery below.

I'm seriously considering buying a Wii just for this game.
It's going to be awesome.
FSK405K @ Nov 16th 2008 6:37PM
We can safely say it's going to LOOK awesome. Whether it will BE or PLAY awesome, I'm still awaiting evidence.
Foetoid @ Nov 16th 2008 6:38PM
I totally agree. Then buy yourself Super Paper Mario, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime and Res Evil 4. They'll all be very cheap by the time this comes out.
Haggard @ Nov 16th 2008 6:44PM
They won't get cheap. Ninty knows these are the only games that really sell on the Wii so they keep the price high. Galaxy and Zelda are still full-priced here in the UK.
Haggard @ Nov 16th 2008 6:45PM
*first-party.
FOXHOUND @ Nov 17th 2008 12:24AM
Actually, the price is like that here in the US too. :\
sam @ Nov 17th 2008 7:49AM
So which Wii games *have* actually been officially price-reduced? I didn't think any were (I mean, some are in bargain bins, but you know, an official rerelease at reduced price etc).
RE4:Wii was already pretty damn cheap - although of course it's less of a bargain if you already played it on GC or PS2 (it's an improvement over both, but you're still playing the same game again).
nullset @ Nov 16th 2008 6:11PM
No More Heroes, but exponentially more over the top and comically-oriented...
This, gents, is gonna be awsome...
J.Goodwin @ Nov 17th 2008 2:36AM
Wait, wasn't No More Heroes crap?
I distinctly remember hearing bad things about it.
sam @ Nov 17th 2008 7:50AM
@J. Goodwin:
I didn't play it either but the general consensus about No More Heroes seemed to be that there was a good game in there among some obvious flaws. I.e. a good game with crap bits, rather than just 'crap'.
Or to put it another way: Metacritic 83, so 'no, it's not crap'.
kaneda @ Nov 17th 2008 11:15AM
No More Heros is a must try, but perhaps not a must buy. I bought it to support the new development team as it is proof of original concepts that is fun to play if perhaps repetitive halfway through. Good mix of action with an enjoyable, comically melodramatic and well executed story.
FlamingEffigy @ Nov 16th 2008 6:14PM
Definitely looks awesome, but why no hi-res images? I realise its a Wii title but still...
j.howlett @ Nov 16th 2008 6:17PM
i'll go visit the wii to play this game
Mr Khan @ Nov 16th 2008 6:17PM
Really wish they had a date set. Q1 is still their target, and i'm getting kinda worried
Magetto @ Nov 16th 2008 6:19PM
Is it just me, or is it hard to tell the people apart from the backgrounds?
Mr Khan @ Nov 16th 2008 6:21PM
you're right, but it isn't a problem in motion
Shagittarius @ Nov 17th 2008 9:48AM
Great another game in hues of gray and brown...don't people know theres an entire color palette out there?!?!??!?!1
Henry Gale @ Nov 16th 2008 6:27PM
Is it me or am I the only one who thinks this looks like crap. No more heroes blew, this will be just as bad. It's going to play like mini games, you can't tell what the heck is going on and it looks ugly.
Foetoid @ Nov 16th 2008 6:40PM
Yeah its you. Remember games look far better when you're playing them compared to screenshots and when it's all in motion it'll look heaps good. It's doesn't seem like minigames at all in the 3 videos i've seen.
Jacksons @ Nov 16th 2008 6:33PM
Is that a man? A harpsichord? A durian? I give up.
mr bean @ Nov 16th 2008 6:47PM
That big round circular duct looks like a Marcus Feenix view of the throat of the lake monster in GoW 2. The rest looks like.....the Beatles crossing Abbey Road...heh!
Jechtshot78 @ Nov 16th 2008 6:38PM
I don't think it looks good. stylized brawler, woo hoo? also, the artstyle, even in motion, makes it hard to tell the placement of items and enemies.
aj @ Nov 16th 2008 10:12PM
I agree.
And those screenshots gave me a terrible migraine. Thanks, Joystiq, I really needed that.
Sackolantern PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Nov 16th 2008 6:47PM
Well from the looks of the screenshots the game certainly look interesting. I like the graphics and stylized sin city like world. I will keep this one on my radar and cross my fingers that it sells well if it's good. I would almost bet that this game hardly moves any copies because it doesn't really appeal to the Wii crowd. From these screenshots and from the short trailer I remember seeing in the past this game looks extremely difficult to navigate.
Having said all of that it is a breathe of fresh air for a game like this to come to the kid friendly Wii. Assuming the game turns out good, this is something I hope to see allot more of in the future Wii releases.
Mr Khan @ Nov 16th 2008 9:15PM
Keep in mind that No More Heroes handily beat sales expectations. It's doubtful that it would have sold much more on 360 or PS3 (possibly more as a multiplat title)
Sackolantern PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Nov 16th 2008 10:12PM
Mr.Khan
Yeah I wonder what reasonable sales expectation of this game are. What do you think a fair expectation would be?
kaneda @ Nov 17th 2008 11:22AM
It probably would do well if it came out right before xmas, (which apparently won't happen). Considering the current and not-too-distant-future landscape of Wii titles, I think it could sell better on the Wii than on any other platform, during this time frame. It's like throwing a somewhat gristly steak to a pack of dogs who've had nothing but bones to chew on since SBB.
mr bean @ Nov 16th 2008 6:49PM
Woops-that's Fenix-sorry, Dom!
ratm @ Nov 16th 2008 7:08PM
Here's to hoping they don't censor blood in Europe as they did with No More Heroes. Fucks.
chris @ Nov 16th 2008 7:16PM
this game has one of the coolest and most original art syles I've seen in a game since Jet Grind Radio for the Dreamcast. I love the black and white graphical styling, which is also very detailed. I hope the game runs as smoothly as the trailers we saw. I'm hoping this turns out great.
MillRecover @ Nov 16th 2008 8:03PM
It looks really cool, and glad the Wii is getting something different, but makes me feel really sick & dizzy...
Oh well, guess it's not for everyone.
*UTTERLY BUMMED*
MillRecover @ Nov 16th 2008 8:04PM
*and I'M glad
*but IT makes
MADWORLD! DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU'RE DOING TO ME?!
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Nov 16th 2008 8:15PM
This game is going to live or die by the animations. I looks cool in stills but it's hard to discern what's interactive and what isn't. Likewise, turning all lighting and shading off doesn't help the matter.
ill trooper @ Nov 16th 2008 8:25PM
I'll buy it, fisr Wii game I want in a while, but I'm worried that's probably the actual game resolution up there...
ill trooper @ Nov 16th 2008 8:27PM
whoops, be a good lad and imagine 'fisr' says 'first' in there
Mr Khan @ Nov 16th 2008 9:12PM
If those pics are 640x480, then yeah, it probably is native resolution
ill trooper @ Nov 17th 2008 1:34AM
Yeah, I was joking but it's still so close to the truth!
*sobs* Why no HDii?
Doug @ Nov 16th 2008 9:21PM
If there are contrasting darks, then this will be AWESOME. (as long as gameplay is good).
Mike @ Nov 16th 2008 10:09PM
I have to see this in motion. I'm having a hard time seeing the detail in the screen shots. Looks interesting though.
Jack Tretton @ Nov 16th 2008 10:50PM
I love the concept (mindless violence!) but the visuals are hard on my peepers.
j.howlett @ Nov 16th 2008 10:56PM
you don't have any
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Nov 16th 2008 11:10PM
He had to hide them in self defense.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Nov 16th 2008 11:42PM
/pencil trick reference
ZENegade @ Nov 17th 2008 3:34AM
HEY! I bloody loved Repo! The Genetic Opera! It was campy greatness! Style, shenanigans, buckets of blood, the works! Well, your opinion I guess.
(Your opinion sucks).
Triscuit @ Nov 17th 2008 10:34AM
Two shades of awesome: one screenshot has him holding a (potentially) still-beating heart, and another has a wall that says "WELCOME CHALLENGER KILL SHIT". That, dear sirs, is amazing.
